Eloise narrowed her eyes at him. "Why? Trying to figure out the next way to get back at you for asking you to dance? Ill have to warn Isabel to never do that if she intends to keep you around."

"Forget it, princess." Abel sighed, turning his face away. "You'd never understand. Not even I can." He couldn't even begin to understand his mess of emotions. But he was under their control, and did whatever they wanted him to do. He had made so many mistakes that way, but he didn't know how to stop.

Eloise choked on her own tears as she looked at him, once again shoving her away. "All i want to know is why i wasnt good enough." She swiped the tears off her face as she looked away. He loved Isabel. He wanted her to love him back. "If you really want her you need a title. If you get your act together Callias might be able to be convinced to make you a lord. She would marry you then." She hugged her arms around her stomach, feeling like she might be sick. "Ill talk to Lucien for you and see what can be done. Its the least i can do after last night."

"You were too good for me. And I hated myself for not being good enough for you." Abel shook his head. "It's not that. She likes other men more than me. I'm just a toy to her. She wouldn't marry me, and I'd be foolish for even thinking about it."

"You dont treat someone who is better than you like dirt, you kiss the dirt they walk upon. Lucien grovels at Callias' feet, Gale at Ilaria's. Meanwhile you push me aside and remind me of how no one could possibly want me. How is that you seeing me as better than you?" Eloise sobbed and had to turn away. She felt pathetic to be falling apart infront of him. He would probably tease her for this later.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Eloise. I can't. I can't..." Abel took a deep breath. "Look, does it matter? I messed up. I'm a mess, Eloise. You don't want anything to do with me. That's fine. Just go find your prince charming, whether that's gale or not."

Eloise let out a tear filled laughed. "You know that isn't possible. You said it yourself, who would ever want me? Im a horrible person and im broken. All i have is my looks and those will fade. I thought maybe i could be happy with you but when i got engaged you became cruel again and i..." She squeezed her eyes shut, her heart dissolving. "I should just go. Im sorry ive bothered you."

"You could give me another chance," Abel offered, opening his eyes to look up at her. "I'll be better, I promise." He hated seeing her upset like this. He wished he could comfort her.

"I can't trust your promises. You have hurt me in ways that had Callias not been so kind you could have been beheaded. I am the princess, Abel. I have to believe i deserve to be treated better. I want to be treated the way Gale treats Ilaria or Ashr treats Fleur. I dont want your cruelty."

"Fine. Do what you wish. If you ever find yourself wanting me, I will be here. Though I have no doubt that you won't." Abel closed his eyes again. "Good luck, I suppose, in finding someone like them."
