Ederra22 | lesbian | larkin, her dragon | location: the mountains
a smile broke across her face at the other's words, nodding in agreement. "that would be correct. though i tend to distance myself from other liberators. i don't agree with all their beliefs," she informed the other, glancing at the two dragons with amusement. larkin wasn't often around other dragons, beyond breaking them out of cages or freeing them from nets. it'd be nice for her to get a bit of time to socialize with one. era nearly missed the other's break in her name, eyes narrowing for a moment before she relaxed. what the other was hiding was none of her business. this would be a short stay, and then she'd probably never see the other again.
"my name is ederra le nain. i and larkin here came from briwe isle, a small island just south of the abyss reef," she informed the other, following after her. glancing over, she noticed the two dragons once more, a slight smile on her face. larkin sniffed jorah curiously, tilting her head before purring in response to the other. turning her attention back to candence, she shook her head. "no need to apologize. larkin doesn't get much time to socialize with other dragons," she informed the other, watching the other thread the needle. she looked at it, then at candence, nodding slowly. she pulled up the side of her tunic, revealing the graze underneath. it wasn't too deep luckily, and it'd heal nicely, albeit with a scar to accompany it.
Ambrose24 | heterosexual | frigga, his dragon | location: at a lake outside stoneking's camp
ambrose was curious about the other, and wondered if she came from the nearby village. she must've, as he doubted she'd be out here on her own when it appeared she didn't have a dragon with her. once they had ended their handshake, he decided it would be best to put his shirt back on. standing around half-naked was not only cold, but a bit embarrassing when in the presence of a stranger. pulling the soft fabric over his head, he was glad to be half dry at the very least. he'd get back at frigga for that one, though he wasn't quite sure how yet.
he noted the other wasn't really making eye contact with him, and frowned in confusion. it wasn't his place to ask however, so he didn't bring the subject up. "it's a pleasure to meet you sandra snow," he responded, turning his attention towards the hatchlings at her question. he smiled as he watched them chase one another around, chuckling softly. "i try not to, as i know it'll upset their mother. but one of them enjoys breaking off from his siblings and will often sit with me while i draw," he told her, "they mostly enjoy jumping all over frigga." his dragon huffed in response of her name, but stood, going over to sandra. she sniffed the new human curiously, before yawning, returning to her spot in the sun.
laughing nervously at her words, he rubbed the back of his neck. "yeah, i was a bit nervous. but i trust frigga. she always catches me," he told her, pausing for a moment before continuing. "do you have a dragon?"

CANDENCE DELACROIX
STATUS. lone survivor BASICS. 23yo, female COMPANION. dragon, jorah LOCATION. the mountains candence didn't say anything for a moment, instead she concentrated on ederra's wound. it didn't need stitches like she originally thought so she put the needle down and instead, doused a clean cloth in alcohol before gently pressing it to her wound. the closeness of their skin made candence flush, particularly because there was no denying that ederra was beautiful but also because she hadn't touched another human being in... months. she cleared her throat and smiled. "sorry about the stinging. but you'll be in trouble if it gets infected. i'm sure you know that, though. it's pretty common knowledge." candence delacroix sighed softly, tenderly wrapping ederra's braze with different cloth before tying it off securely. "you'll have to change that in a few days. i can give you supplies before you leave."
"neither does jorah, unfortunately. sometimes i think it's because he's too young to want to have a mate, other times i just think it's because he sees me as his mother." she cooed at her dragon, touching his nose with her hand. candence was pleased that larkin and jorah seemed to be getting along quite well, almost like they were playing with each other as they bounced around. "briwe isle," she repeated. "that's a long way off. what are you doing here?" she only knew of the tiny island because of a lesson from her father; there were rumors of thousands and thousands of dragons living there, unlike any other place. "is it true what they say?" candence inquired somewhat shyly, feeling both naive and simplistic. "that the dragons cover the sun?"
SANDRA SNOW
STATUS. chief's daughter BASICS. 27yo, female COMPANION. direwolf, mira LOCATION. stoneking's camp relief flooded through her as he put on his shirt and she was finally able to meet his eyes with confidence, a small smile present across her face. she pulled the reins off her horse and hung them over a branch, allowing her horse to roam with some freedom. she hated to keep him tied to one tree or another; when she wasn't riding him, that's what his life was like. the stonekings were known for their powerful war horses and calvary, but the treatment of their animals was less than optimal. "they watch you draw?" sandra smiled at the image of a hatchling curiously watching ink make a mark on a sheet of paper. she wondered if they comprehended the images of what he drew. "frigga is your dragon? she doesn't seem to like the little ones as much."
she stiffened as the dragon approached her, staggering backwards as sge sniffed her face. frigga yawned, revealing a sharp set of teeth, before leaving and going to sleep in the sun. she felt a little silly that she had been spooked, but cleared her throat and lifted her head up. she nearly laughed as his next question. "clearly not," sandra smiled, looking around at the tree line. "i respect them from a distance." she explained quickly, not wanting him to think she was a dragon-hunter. "i do have a direwolf around here somewhere." as if on cue, mira bounded out of the treeline and padded up to sandra's side, licking at her hand eagerly. she growled at ambrose, taking up a defensive position between them. "she won't hurt you, not unless i tell her to. she's quite nice, once she knows you. it's just that where i'm from most of the other villagers don't care for me. so she thinks all humans are bitter, besides me."

era grimaced as the other pressed the doused cloth to the wound, but attempted to hide her pain from the other. she was glad the wound wasn't worse than it was, and that she hadn't been grazed with any of the hunters poisoned arrows. the young woman had found they had begun dousing their arrow tips with some mixture of dragon venom and night-berries. the concoction, though not deadly, did a number on the person hit with it. she had witnessed the hunters using just a few arrows to bring down considerably large dragons. she didn't want to know what that kind of things could do to a human such as herself. glancing over at the other's words, she shrugged slightly, glad that the wound was now wrapped up. "thank you for the help, but i cannot take more of your supplies than you've already given to me," she told her, pulling her shirt back down as she turned to face the other woman.
a smile broke on her face as she watched the other rider for a moment, then looked at their dragons. "he'll grow out of it, but as you said, he's still young to worry about that. though it is nice to watch the two of them play together," she spoke. sometimes she felt she used her dragon too much, so it was nice to allow her to relax at times. glancing at the other, her smile fell and she gritted her teeth slightly at the mention of her home. she sighed, turning from the other at her questions. it made since word of her island did not reach this far north, but even so, it made it easier when she brought it up to those who did know. it meant she didn't have to dwell on it too much. "there were. but it has been a long time since that has been true," she simply said, "and that's all i wish to speak of it at this moment."

noticing the other finally met his eyes, he flushed a bit darker as he connected his shirtlessness with her embarrassment. he was a fool, how had he not realized that before. flushing slightly, he glanced down as he felt something run over his foot, chuckling softly as he saw the hatchlings chasing each other around. they were entertaining, that was for sure. he wondered where their mother was, as she often returned about this time to feed them. he had noted that she tried not to be gone for long stretches of time, so he wondered where she was given it was about time the hatchlings were fed.
nodding at sandra's question, he smiled. "they mostly watch the quill move across the paper. i think it confuses them how the ink can make symbols on the page," he laughed, before glancing towards frigga, "yeah, she has absolutely zero mothering skills, though i can't fault her too much. her species mates late in life and she hasn't hit that milestone yet, so she just finds them annoying at this point."
ambrose couldn't help but laugh at the other's response to frigga, watching sandra with amusement. "no need to worry about frigga. she may seem menacing but she's a sweetheart," he informed her, turning at her mention of the direwolf. his eyes lit up as mira came bounding from the trees. he had never seen one so close and always found them fascinating. he went to approach her, before jumping back as the other growled at him. he chuckled nervously, putting his hands up in surrender towards the wolf, looking towards sandra. "at least she went to protect you! frigga's still over there enjoying the sun, useless lizard," he joked, glancing over at the dragon who snorted in response.

CANDENCE DELACROIX
STATUS. lone survivor BASICS. 23yo, female COMPANION. dragon, jorah LOCATION. the mountains silence filled the space between them as candence stood up and moved away from ederra, giving her space. "i have too many supplies to carry, anyways." she reasoned, clenching her hands so tight that her nails dug into the palms of her hands. "i should travel lightly from here on out. i'm getting closer," that was all she said, though there was unexplained tensiom between them. “i understand not wanting to speak of your home,” candence replied calmly, a reassuring smile on her face. jorah growled and glanced up as she mentioned her home, his eyes narrowing as he glared at ederra.
“no, not her, jorah.” candence told her dragon, a small, soft look on her face. “my village was slaughtered. i would have been too, if not for him. he saved me, even as just a newborn hatchling. he’s been with me ever since,” she found herself opening up to ederra without even caring: perhaps it was because candence was desperate to get rid of the tension, or maybe because she knew she would never see her again after today.
SANDRA SNOW
STATUS. chief's daughter BASICS. 27yo, female COMPANION. direwolf, mira LOCATION. stoneking's camp despite not having a dragon of her own or ever interacting with one outside of observing them, she felt somewhat protective over the small hatchlings as they bounced around and tumbled near the waters edge. “can they swim?” sandra asked fretfully. “and their mother? she didn’t abandon them, did she?” the questions spilled out of her mouth before she could stop them. “sorry, i suppose you don’t know the answers to my questions anyways,” she mumbled shyly, stroking mira’s head and avoiding eye contact.
“i don’t necessarily trust dragons,” sandra commented as she pushed her red hair out of her face, the sun shining down on her skin causing her to sweat. the heat was steadily increasing as summer crept closer, so much that she worried there might be grass fires. “but maybe i should, they’re wild animals just the same as mira.” she smiled down at her direwolf, her cheeks flushing as ambrose commented on mira’s protective nature. “i don’t deserve her loyalty and it certainly worries me to know that she would die for me in an instant.”

Ederra22 | lesbian | larkin, her dragon | location: the mountains
the tension between the two riders made era nervous, though she relaxed a bit as the other stood to move away. it felt like a weight was lifted off her chest and she could breath again. it had been such a long time since she'd truly interacted with someone she wasn't trying to get answers from. it was nerve wracking to say the least. she only nodded in agreement to the other's words, keeping in mind her mention of getting closer. closer? to what? her curiosity was there but she held her tongue out of respect.
larkin growled in response to jorah, moving to stand protectively by her rider. "shh girl, it's okay," she reassured the dragon, turning to look at the other. her eyes widened slighty at candence's words, surprised at the similarity the two held. taking a deep breath, she looked at her hands before speaking. "i am the sole survivor of my village. a spy within my chief's ranks allowed dragon hunters onto our land, and in the night my friends and family were killed. had i not been forced to hide i would have been killed as well," she revealed, feeling a tear role down her face. she had not spoken of the event since it had happened, so the pain of it was slowly coming back to her.
Ambrose24 | heterosexual | frigga, his dragon | location: at a lake outside stoneking's camp
ambrose snorted slightly, amused with the other's concern over the young hatchlings. it was a nice change of scene to see someone else care for the dragons as much as he did. turning to look over at the hatchlings, he frowned at her questioning, clicking his tongue. "they know better than to go too deep, they should be fine," he informed the other, "though i am worried about the mother. she's usually back by now to feed them after her hunt. she wouldn't abandon them, not at this age, so i'm a bit concerned."
turning his attention back to sandra, he smile slightly at her words. "it can be hard to gain their trust, but once you have it, they won't betray you," he reassured the other, glancing at the direwolf. the two creatures were much in the same: wild, yet if trained, you earn their trust: they protected you. furrowing his eyebrows at her words, he shook his head. "i'm sure you've proved yourself to her to be worthy of dying for. if she's anything like a dragon, then it isn't easy to earn that kind of loyalty. she probably sees you as apart of her pack."

CANDENCE DELACROIX
STATUS. lone survivor BASICS. 23yo, female COMPANION. dragon, jorah LOCATION. the mountains candence, despite not knowing ederra, fought the urge to reach out and smooth the tear off her cheek. she listened as the dragon rider spoke, still stroking her dragon. though their stories were different, there were many similarities that made candence want to trust ederra. of course that could always be nothing more than just a ploy to get candence to trust her. though somehow she felt no fear as the night wore on: it was as though there was a gentle force, or maybe even a god, compelling her trust a total stranger. in reaction to jorah, larkin responded aggressively and she tensely grabbed the knife secured on her hip, until ederra soothed her dragon and she obediently calmed down. she let go of the knife, shifting awkwardly. "dragon liberators rode through my village and slaughtered every man, woman, and child they could find."
she paused, taking in ederra's reaction. "my father was well known to liberators. they made me watch as they cut off his head." she gritted her teeth before turning to her dragon. "i wasn't proud that we killed dragons. but they were killing us and it was all we knew. i wish someone had just come to us and told us that we didn't have to fight them. instead, we were slaughtered. babies ripped from their mother's arms." she sighed and pushed back the hair from her face, looking at the ground. she kicked a rock before glancing back up at ederra. "i'll kill every one of them," candence promised her, not sure if she was referring to the people who murdered her village or the ones who murdered hers.SANDRA SNOW
STATUS. chief's daughter BASICS. 27yo, female COMPANION. direwolf, mira LOCATION. the lake near the stoneking's camp sandra tensed up as ambrose snorted at her, feeling as though he was laughing at her concern. she forced a smile and nodded as her kept talking, though mira seemed to pick up on her emotions. the large direwolf growled and circled sandra restlessly, her sharp teeth peaking out from underneath her muzzle as it raised in a snarl. "mira, shh." she told her direwolf. "i'm the only pack she knows," sandra said wistfully, wishing that mira's mother hadn't died when she was young. the young pup was cast out of her pack and wandering the woods when sandra found her.
there was little pause in their conversation as sandra nodded towards the hatchlings. "perhaps we could go look for the mother," sandra suggested before clicking her tongue. her horse looked up and snorted before trotting over with little enthusiasm. she stroked his neck. "you can ride your dragon, i'll ride my horse. i'm sure we can find her. i know there's a trapping village not far from her, so we might check there first." sandra didn't mention that if the dragon trappers recongnized her as a stoneking they might use her as ransom. not that her father would pay it, since she was a bastard: but still, there was something to be said about her being a target. she just hoped they wouldn't get caught in their search for the mother dragon.

Ederra22 | lesbian | larkin, her dragon | location: the mountains
it felt rewarding, in a way, being this vulnerable with another person. there wasn't a word or a way to describe it: why was she spilling this information to this stranger? a stranger who, for all she knew, could truly be a dragon hunter. even with these thoughts nagging at the back of her brain, she didn't feel a need to act on them. something about candence stood out to her, compelled the young dragon rider to trust the other. thus she felt no issue in sharing her past with the other. she noticed candence reach for her knife at larkin's reaction, which compelled her to send the dragon to lay down. "go," she spoke gently, yet sternly to the dragon, who chirped sadly in return. she turned back to candence as the other spoke, eyes wide at her words.
she flinched at her words, looking away from the other. what had her father done to deserve such a cruel fate? but that wasn't her place to ask. delving too deep into another's past would only lead to anger on all sides. at the very least she didn't have to watch her family die. it didn't make it any better, but she wasn't quite sure she'd have been able to live if she witnessed such a terrible act. "i'm sorry," she spoke softly, glancing back up at the other. a hand reached out, stopped for a moment, before she placed in gently on the other's shoulder. the vengeance in the other's voice scared her, but she didn't let it show, keeping a locked jaw as she watched the other. "i don't believe more death will bring you what you're looking for," she spoke, pulling her hand back as she looked back at larkin, shifting awkwardly. at the very least, it hadn't worked for her.
Ambrose24 | heterosexual | frigga, his dragon | location: at a lake outside stoneking's camp
ambrose glanced warily at mira, her growling drawing the attention of frigga. the dragon was at his side in a moment, crouching low as she watched the direwolf. a low growl was the only warning frigga was willing to give, causing amrbose to grab her by her saddle. "frigga no, leave her alone," he spoke, but it seemed to fall on deaf ears. his eyes widened as the dragon's mouth started to glow, moving himself between the upset dragon, the direwolf and her owner. "frigga," he spoke more sternly, knowing she'd do nothing to hurt him. the dragon stopped, sitting back and letting out a soft whimper. he placed a hand on her snout, shaking his head as he turned back to sandra.
he shot her an apologetic look, not sure what was getting into his dragon. "i apologize, i think she's confused given she's never seen a direwolf before. i think she honestly believes she can't protect me from mira," he told the other, before listening to her suggestion. glancing over at the hatchlings, he smiled, before looking back at her. "i think we should. the longer their mother is away coupled with the fact they haven't been fed puts a huge mark on their back for other dragons in the area," he told her, glancing down as one of the hatchlings ran between the two of them. their mother needed to be found. hopefully she wasn't significantly hurt, or worse.
