✰ JOHN-MICHAEL FLORES
hope you're doing fine, hope your dreams came true - ─────────────────────
John-Michael is as easy to love as he is to hate. For one, he’s a lot, and for most people, it's a hit or miss. He doesn’t know how to live in shades of grey, so everything that he does, he does to the best of his ability. He's a calm and focused guy with a very intense attitude, despite his apparent awkward demeanor in social situations at night. He moves in an unsettlingly calculated way that implies he's continually ready for a fistfight to break out around him, and on the rare occasions that he speaks to strangers he comes off as aggressive and jaded. John isn’t shy by any means - introverted and easily exhausted, maybe, but not at all shy. Self-certainty has never been John-Michael's strong suit, but the deceivingly mean-looking man is always ready to try and boost the esteem of others, a friend for life and fiercely loyal to those he holds dear. In love, he is warm and trusting to a fault, but getting there will be a challenge. Those who are all-in will find a devoted partner who is unafraid to go the extra mile. He's a capricorn, but doesn't often bother with the whole star compatibility thing.
──────────────── i'm still chasing mine, but last night i dreamed of you

min jae-seok // joey // wc; 706
jae watched as his mom drove away, leaving him on the sidewalk in front of the college. he ran a hand through his red streaked hair before grabbing his two suitcases. he really hated that his mom was just leaving like that, but she did have a job to go to. she worked at the local korean barbecue place with his step dad, who joe kinda hated. his mom met him just recently and the guy drove jaeseok crazy. he wasn't nice to his mom, and they had gotten married a couple months after they met. it bugged him but he made his mom happy so it didn't matter that much. he pulled his luggage along towards a little student directory place where he'd get his room assignment and they'd tell him who his roommate was. he waited as the lady at the desk flipped through a ginormous stack of papers and pulled up a paper with his own name on the top. he quickly skimmed through the sheet, and then asked where his dorm building was. he didn't even bother to read his roommate's name until he was close to the building he'd been assigned to.
"john-michael flores. hmph." the name sounded strangely familiar in his lips, but he couldn't quite put his finger on who it was. it wasn't a korean name he was used to - it should be easy for him to pick out who it was. he propped open the door to his dormitory to let open someone behind him then dragged his heavy bags in. in the back of his mind was that name he couldn't put a face to. he grunted as he scanned the hallways for his room number - 217. the number came into sight and he pulled out the key he'd gotten with the sheet of paper he'd gotten. he pushed the key into the doorknob and let himself in. it seemed that he was the first to get there. he picked out the nicer, bigger bed, and started to make it with the sheets he'd brought from home before unpacking, to claim the bed. he finished that quickly and fluffed his pillows a bit before grabbing his suitcases and boxes and setting them on the bed. he opened the box with all of his belongings first, taking out pictures of his dog and his mom and sister, and some other knick knacks. he stretched and shoved the box off the bed, plopping down on the not so soft bed.
some time had passed after joey had laid down, and he'd closed his eyes for a bit. he was woken by the creaking of the wooden door to his shared room. he sat up on one of his elbows, rubbing his eye with his free hand. his vision was blurry so he didn't see who it was at first, and he looked away to check the time on his phone. he turned back around, phone in hand, to greet his new roommate. he dropped his phone when he saw who it was. he gasped, loudly. he mentally scolded himself for not recognizing the name at first glance. it was his childhood best friend. joey slid off his bed, striding over to his old friend with his short legs. he pulled the taller man into a hug, chuckling a little. "john! it's been too long, hyeong!" he said to the older male, using an endearing term for brother in korean. he pulled back, his hands still on john's shoulders. he had a big grin on his face, his eyes scanning the male's face. it had been a long long time, but he still looked the same to jae. he laughed with joy again. it was weird seeing a long lost friend.
"please, come in, make your bed, put your stuff away. i'll help!" jaeseok said, grabbing one of the male's bags and pulling it into the space. as he set the bag down in the room, he noticed there was something different about the man. even though he knew it had been such a long time, and he'd grown, there was something about him that joey couldn't put his finger on. obviously, he had become more... attractive. and distinguished.

John-Michael had been roused rather roughly that morning, met with a barrage of furry bodies and heavy, indelicate paws. It was early enough that the pack had wanted to run as a collective, which meant it was before six and he would never forgive them for this treasonous betrayal (which he made a point of telling them all between playful, melancholic goodbyes and a few rounds of do us proud.) There were seven of them nestled in a large house on the outskirts of town that nobody really questioned, the pack masquerading as a family of adopted children and their loving parents, and John supposed he never questioned it. Having five siblings, a brother and four sisters, had been so natural from the moment he was bitten. It had been about ten years ago, and his alpha - a protective, mousy man named Stokely - had turned him to protect him from those with more nefarious motives. All he could ever really get out of the rest was that Stokely had saved his life, for better or worse, and though he missed his mom he wouldn’t trade the pack for the world.
The ride into town was short; he spent most of it sandwiched between two of the girls in Stokley’s jeep while somebody DJ’d - he thought for sure it was Alondra, but it might have been Milagros - as they all discussed his courses and how empty the house would feel without him. In truth, it was sort of scary. John hadn’t been without his family before. Now he was going to be living with a roommate he didn’t know and and doing all of these admittedly exciting things alone, and the big bad world was waiting for him to step to it. He was ready. It was daunting, was all. Hiding lycanthropy was daunting. There would have to be a lot more control in place now, and who knew, he may even end up spending a few nights at home. That had been the point of going to school so close, though. He could escape if he needed it. When he took a moment to say so all of his sisters had laughed or related, and his brother - a tall boy with pale skin and freckles dotting every visible surface of his skin named Nathan- turned around in the front seat nad assured him that, as nervous as it made him, he was going to have so much fun away from the pack house. As far from the truth as it seemed, there was so much out there to discover. So many new acquaintances to make. Fake as his smile was, John-Michael had really tried to take it to heart. Sibling advice was always appreciated.
Reaching the dorm was heavy. John had only packed two bags full of the things he really needed and getting them out of the back of the car was so final it hurt. Nathan was coming up to say goodbye from all of them, but it was still so hard to want to go in. He’d just convinced Nate to help him unpack and and swung the door open when he remembered there was a roommate, and by then, Nate was already dipping out at the opportunity he’d been given. There went the last familiar thing.
Or so he thought.
For a second he didn’t recognize Joey, but then it was clear that this was a childhood best friend who probably didn’t realize just how far apart they’d grown. How far he’d grown to everyone. Before John-Michael had time to greet him in return there were arms around him and he took it awkwardly, but not unkindly. The lighter of his bags made its way out of his hand in a gesture of good faith that he didn’t think was the most welcome thing ever when they weren’t extremely close anymore. He understood the want to revert back to to being best friends just like that, but they didn’t necessarily know each other anymore. “Small word, huh?” He set his other bag down on the bed, glancing at Joey’s knicknacks briefly. What a year this was going to be.
