Mavis had been happily drawing, humming extremely quietly. She saw the girl walk up, and listened quietly. Mavis just couldn't speak. Her eyes studied the Korean girl for a few moments before deciding whether she wanted her to or not. She grabbed the small white-board she owned and began writing. She wiped it out a few times before settling on a single, slightly rude sentence.
''Sure, if you're not like your 'friends''' Mavis showed her the white-board. She turned and accidentally knocked her pencil case off the table. Sally noticed she was at a table near them, cleaning. Mavis knelled down and began picking them up. But soon Sally walked over and helped her.
''Are you okay Maves?' Sally signed. ''Yeah. I think. If I need you, I'll go find you. Thank you.'' Mavis replied. ''Alright Maves. No problem.'' Sally gave her a smile. Mavis sat back on her chair as Sally stood and went back to the table she was previously cleaning. Mavis then began to write on her whiteboard again,''Why are you suddenly interested in me? Am I only okay to hang with when your friends aren't around, the same ones who pick on me daily?!'' She added. She then continued to draw in her copy. She was only sketching, then later she'd reline it.
It was the image of a park at the night, she was amazing at art. She also loved to dance. Mavis had a condition called selective mutism, which made things very difficult on her, especially because people looked down on her and never felt she would be able to act a-okay in society's eyes. She was an autistic girl with selective mutism. She kept a blank expression as she turned the page onto a new one. She began sketching a dance outfit idea she had. Sally, the coffee shop worker, Danny, a friend which Mavis had from dance and Savanna would help her.
It wasn't that she had no friends, it was just she had very few. Danny was an immigrant from Mexico, Sally was an older woman who would probably be retiring soon and Savanna was a girl she was in the orphanage. She was sketching a blue dress, she was dance partners with Danny, and the duo loved the contemporary theme, they'd dance to 'Say you won't let go,' then the next time they agreed to do a dance about Mavis' past abusive relationship. The one that made her realize she was bi, Mavis had developed a crush on her boyfriend's sister. It was an embarrassing incident. Especially when they split up and his sister then hit on her. Mavis tightened her ponytail before yawning. Mavis took a sip from her hot chocolate as she shaded in the dress with a blue colouring pencil lightly. She smiled at her art as she also sketched a hair ribbon and style.
Then Mavis began writing stuff down again,''I can't speak to many people. I've selective mutism, it's an anxiety disorder, which makes me unable to talk in select social settings, such as school. Sometimes I'm able to speak and communicate in settings where I'm are comfortable.'' She sighed and looked at the girl before showing her the white-board.
