xxxthe princess sat on the rim of a fountain which could be seen through the ballroom window. jaiyana shook her head. "i dont know but most of the men around here are like that. they're scared to see a women in power," she said to him, look at her feet as the swaying back and forth and just stopping before they hit the gray rock that framed the fountain. "they want their women to be air-headed, not knowing how to fight, they won't even let women in higher ranks where pants," she said with a sigh. "its ridiculous but i don't think it will change any time soon. the lords here will never stop until they can ensure that no women will be rulers and they'll probably even try to keep them out of the military."

xxxSkylar shook his head in disbelief, still not understanding or believing that someone would think so lowly just because they were a woman. "Personally, I think that smart, strong woman are better than air-headed women," Sky commented, looking away from the window and looking up at the sky. Watching the stars could be so satisfying and soothing, especially in situations like this one, where he couldn't calm his racing heart. He could feel his ancestors looking down on him, and then remembered the look in his father's eyes which he'd have to deal with, considering he's already made up his mind that he's not going through with his assignment.

xxxjaiyana smiled a bit. "i wish more people here thought like that. im sure our country would be better off if the royal women were allowed by their husbands and fathers to speak their mind," she confessed her opinion. as she sat on the edge of the fountain, the princess began to feel like there were eyes on her and was shifting uncomfortably. when she heard a shuffling sound in the bushes of the garden, jaiyana began to feel like something was really wrong here. someone was definitely in those bushes, creeping on her and skylar. "do you hear that too or am i just going crazy?" she whispered to him, looking over at the bushes.

xxxSkylar flinched, more harsh than he'd hoped, when he heard Jaiyana's voice and yet another rustle in the bushes. As the boy turned his eyes towards the bush that the princess was looking at, his hand inched towards the concealed knife. A part of him was glad that he hadn't tossed it into one of those bushes, like his mind planned. His eyes remained on the bush as he silently pushed himself up into a standing, yet ducking, position. Surely this person, whoever they were, that was in the bushes wasn't dumb enough to actually attack (if that was even what they were attempting to do.) A part of Sky's mind wondered if it was his father, planning to attack no matter what Skylar decided; he was that type of man, anyways.
