Duskwhisper and Eaglefire were patrolling the eastern border of AuroraClan. The two warriors were just passing through a clearing in the forest when Eaglefire froze.

"Do you smell that?" She asked her former mentor quietly. The tom stopped and began to scent the air. His eyes narrowed.

"Cats. Strangers too. Let's go." He ordered. The two warriors made their way to the very edge of their territory and peaked out from behind a rocky outcropping. The scent was coming from just beyond their clan's borders.

"Newcomers? Or intruders?" Eaglefire whispered.
Duskwhisper shook his head, unsure. The two warriors waited in hiding to see who would come.

Firefly paced back and forth twice as fast through the tree branches as Sandclaw on the ground. Therefore it took her several minutes to realize he was no long beneath her.
Tensing, she swung her head back and forth, scenting the wind. She tasted his smell, but it was blended with strange cats.
With a sudden jolt of nerves, she went racing through the leaves in his direction.

Sandclaw slunk through the grass towards the outcropping, ears pricked forwards, barely more than a rustle in the weeds. He knew other cats frequented this area, but never came upon any of them. He knew he should have waited for Firefly to catch up, but his curiosity had overcome him. He was close enough now to tell there were two of them.

The two warriors heard the strangers approaching. As they drew closer, it became clear that it was a pair of cats. Duskwhisper gestured with his tail and the two warriors cautiously approached the border. Eaglefire's eyes narrowed and as she spotted movement in the reeds. She had barely just noticed the other cat with how silently they were approaching. The she-cat drew Duskwhisper's attention to the movement and the tom stepped forward. He walked to the edge of the border and stood with his head high.

"Come on out. We know you're there." The large tom ordered. He was tense, but not blatantly aggressive. Hopefully, these cats would be friendly and not a threat to the clan. Eaglefire approached as well and stood shoulder to shoulder wither her companion.

Bemused that he had been detected, but not quite irritated, not yet, Sandclaw gave up on stealth, simply straightening to his full height, but he still came swaying forwards, a faint glint in his eye.
Firefly hung back a bit further, digging her claws into the bark of her chosen perch. She knew Sandclaw was aware of her presence, but were the strangers?
"Alright, I'm here," Sandclaw said in a raised voice "May I join you?"

Duskwhisper nodded, observing the other tom. "You may." He called, still slightly wary, but less so now. He figured if this cat was a threat they would have hesitated far more to expose themselves. However, Duskwhisper was not yet ready to let down his guard.

The wind suddenly shifted and Eaglefire looked up, her eyes meeting with that of the other she-cat present.
"You can come down too." She called, in a far friendlier tone than her fellow warrior. Call her naïve, but Eaglefire was willing to give these cats the benefit of the doubt. Plus they hadn't been trespassing, just around the border. However, if they did make a threatening move, the young warrior was certain that she and Duskwhisper could handle it.

Firefly cursed the shifting wind. The friendliness in the strange cat's voice did little to ally any of her fears. She'd met sweet toned monsters before. But Sandclaw was looking over his shoulder at her, waiting.
With a huff she descended from the trees and breezed to Sandclaw's side, head high, back arched, tail puffed. Together they approached the outcropping.

"I am Sandclaw, deputy of Songclan," Sandclaw wasted no time in establishing just who was in charge of the situation "You are very close to our borders, if you did not know that already."

Duskwhisper's eyes narrowed. "Funny. I am Duskwhisper, warrior of AuroraClan, and I could say the same to you." He stated, not at all amused with Sandclaw's attempt at establishing power.

Eaglefire rolled her eyes and shot a glare at both toms. "Really? Can both of you stop? So we're near your territory, and you're near ours. But no one is trespassing. And if the border markings are right, then our territories don't even overlap. So, instead of acting like pushing our weight around, shouldn't we be trying to get to know each other? Especially if our clans are neighbors." The young warrior had quickly deduced that if this truly was another warrior clan, then it would be best to be on good terms and not make unnecessary enemies.

"I'm Eaglefire by the way, another warrior of AuroraClan."

"I was not aware there was another clan so close to our border," Sandclaw dipped his head ever so slightly. Duskwhisper's sharp words had his hackles up, but Eaglefire seemed agreeable enough and Songclan was not looking for enemies "We meant no offense and want no trouble."
