Cyprus returned to his house that night and informed his father of what had happened at the school. He assured him that he showed Alex who was boss and made him run away with his tail between his legs like the dog he was. His father praised him a small bit before kicking him out of his office. He went to bed content that night.

The next morning Cyprus went for a run in the park like he normally did. He would run in the park rather than at a gym because less people bothered him there. He was on his fifth lap of the park and relatively tired when he ran into a small body. He was about the apologize when he saw it was Alex. He narrowed his eyes at him, just his luck.

"Outta my way," Alex growled, elbowing Cyprus to the side and grabbing his bag before stooping down next to the lake to feed the ducks. He hoped that Cyprus would just leave him alone. The park was the only place he could fully relax; he didn't need Cyprus to come in here and screw everything up. "He's so annoying. I wish he would just leave me alone," he murmured as he fed the ducks, assuming that Cyprus had already left. He reminded himself to sanitize his hands properly after feeding the ducks. He didn't want to catch any diseases, but he loved petting them at the rare moments he could.

Cyprus followed Alex once he snapped at him for him to get out of his way. "You are annoying as well, brat." He spoke as he looked down at the shorter boy. "Really, are you feeding the duckie wuckies?" He taunted him as he looked at him. "Should drown you in the lake while I'm here, get rid of one big problem while I'm here..." He murmured to himself as he looked at him. He stepped hard on the ground, scaring the ducks away from Alex. "Well, seems like you don't have a reason to be in the park now so leave." He told him, narrowing his eyes. This was his turf.

Alright. Now he was pissed. ”Seriously?? You just have to ruin everything, don’t you?!” He demanded, yelling angrily at Cyprus. One of the few things he could enjoy and be himself at, and Cyprus just had to butt in. Why couldn’t the guy just leave him alone. ”Is it so hard for you to just go away?? I didn’t even do anything to you!” He pointed out, grabbing his bag and storming off onto the sidewalk, looking for more ducks. He fumed as he walked, muttering insults about Cyprus. The park was one of his only refuges, and now this had happened. He really liked the ducks too. Sure, they hated each other, but did Cyprus really have to do that? He was just going out of his way to be a jerk now.

Cyprus smirked as he watched him stomp off like the tantrum having brat that he was. He kept thinking that perhaps this would be the best time to take him out. He could easily have some of his men meet him at the park to jump Alexander. That sounded like the perfect plan and he grabbed his phone to do so when he noticed something. A man seemed to be stalking Alexander through the park and approached him from behind, grabbing him by his neck and chest, knife to his throat. Cyprus approached quietly, kicking the man in the ribs away from Alexander, sending him running with Cyprus yelling at him "If anyone is going to get rid of the brat, it's going to be me!" He snapped at him, keeping Alexander behind him.

Alex had just turned away when he felt a cold blade pressed to his throat. He was about to kick his assailant where the sun doesn’t shine, but the attacker suddenly was launched away. Alex looked up to see Cyprus defending him. Huh. That was unexpected. Even if his reason was just to kill Alex himself, he had saved Alex anyways. Alex pressed his hand to his throat, checking for any injuries. There was no blood. He was fine. ”Um... thanks. For helping me,” he told Cyprus, still shocked by what the male had done. It was very unusually kind. ”I guess I owe you now, so... if I’m in a good mood and you need some help, you can call me,” he told him. Alex didn’t like people calling on him for unexpected favors or owing anybody, so he supposed he would just get it out of the way now. He could have gotten out of the situation himself, but what Cyprus did was much better than Alex having to fend off his attacker himself.

Cyprus looked at him with slightly narrowed eyes. "I don't take favours from your kind." He spoke as he looked at him. Correction, Cyprus did not tend to take favours from anyone really. He looked down at Alexander and spoke once more. "Just do not tell anyone of what I did. Our father's catch wind of this and we will both be scolded and harassed by them so there is no need for that." He told him firmly as he looked at him. He feared what his father would say if he learned he spared his rival when there was the possibility of him perishing.

Alex was just trying to be nice, but if Cyprus was going to be like that, Alex would just go back to his regular attitude. ”Alright, fine then. Have fun ruining others peoples lives then. Or do you just target me or something?” He asked, venom clear in his voice. After trying to be kind, he had just gotten a snappy remark back from Cyprus. So annoying. He hated that jerk even more now. He reached inside his bag to stuff his bread back in, but as he pulled his hand out, his sketchbook spilled out as well, falling to the ground and showing a page where Alex had sketched one of the ducks he had seen. Alex wasn’t really a good artist, but he liked doing little sketches at times. He quickly picked the book up, hoping Cyprus hadn’t seen it, then began walking over to the playground.

Cyprus laughed as he saw the drawing of the duck that Alexander had done. "That's a lovely self-portrait you did!" He called out to him with a laugh before turning and continuing his running in the park, content with the harassing he did. He was laying the guide-lines to finish the job sometime. He just needed to poke, poke, and poke him until he physically attacked him and then Cyprus could finish him and claim it was self-defense. It's the oldest trick in the book but one that Cyprus knew quite well.

Cyprus' taunt made Alex scowl deeply. Seriously though, Alex felt like he hadn't even provoked Cyprus that much, so why was he being such a jerk?? He sat down on the swings, swaying back and forth as he thought about Cyprus. They were still in high school, so Alex hadn't thought about how they would be serious enemies later on. In all honesty, Alex had wanted to first finish his education and get a stable job before having to take over his gang from his father, because he just valued that over the gang, but his father obviously wouldn't agree. Alex absentmindedly pulled out some hand sanitizer that he always kept with him, continuing to think about Cyprus' actions. They would eventually resort to wanting to kill each other in order to take complete control of the area, but... They were just high schoolers. Alex couldn't wrap his mind around the fact that Cyprus might actually want to kill him.

He sighed, getting off the swings and walking back home.

On Monday, in language arts, they were assigned a group project on one of the books that they had been reading. Their task was to recreate a scene from the book and write an essay analyzing the scene. Unfortunately, most of the book was very romantic. And they were assigned partners. And guess who Alex was assigned to? The biggest brat of all time, Cyprus. As soon as the words left his teacher's mouth, Alex groaned, laying his head down on his table in disbelief. How did they always manage to meet each other??

But it was for school. He should be civilized. They were supposed to start brainstorming in school, so Alex took a rubric and went over to Cyprus' table. "So. Any ideas?" He asked.
