"How come?" she asked, tilting her head some. She didn't really understand why they didn't want to meet her and her sister.

"They are just, very opinionated." he said softly as he looked at her, "It's not your fault or Mary's." he reassured her.

[Boomer]

"Do they not like pups?" she asked, "Or twins?" Maria chose a book at random. She gave it to Evan. It was a medical textbook, but she didn't know that.

Evan picked a different one, "That one will be boring." he told her, "It's not that, just don't worry about it." he said softly.

[Boomer]

"Okay." she said softly, trusting Evan's word. She curled up in his lap. "Do you have any sisters?" she asked, tilting her head a little.

"No, I am an only child." Evan smiled at her and got out the book for her, he began to read the fairytale book for her.

[Boomer]

Maria quieted down as Evan began to read. She didn't get sleepy until the very end of the story. By that time, she was trying to keep her eyes open. "Can you read a story to Mary too?" she asked softly.

Evan smiled, "I will read a story to both of you." he said warmly, carrying her up to bed, "Ready to change for bed?" he asked her.

Maria nodded a little as she snuggled against him. She knew Mary would be asleep, but she didn't want her to be left out because of her pain.

He set her down in her room, "Go get changed and I will get a book." he said softly, giving her a gentle smile.
