xxxit was a dark night and the only sounds that could be heard in the forest were the croaks of toads and the somber lament of the nightingale. the dreams of the leader were of warm summer's evenings and the intoxicating smell of rosebushes flooded her nose. she walked along in a huge meadow, blades of grass tickling at her fur. bluebirds flew overhead towards the forest that was nearby her. she continued to walk until suddenly she heard growling behind her. echostar flipped around and saw a huge bear towering over her. it's ginormous claws came down upon her and left deep cuts her side. she let out a yowl and was hit again by the bear. she fell to the ground.
xxxechostar's eyes flickered open and she let out a groan. it was obviously morning because she could feel the sun's heat on her pelt. other than that, her side was aching horribly. she almost forgot what had happened to her a few days ago. echostar, and the rest of her patrol, had been attacked by a fox while securing the border and she had a really bad wound on her side. for the past few days, she had been kept inside of the medicine cat den, which wasn't a great example for a new leader to be setting. she wanted to get out of this den as quick a she could, before the warriors started to think she was weak.
xxx xxxTen... Eleven... Twe- Did I bring enough poppyseeds back?... Birchwing gave an annoyed exhale when she lost count of the juniper berries beneath her paw for the third time. She had been awake all night, counting her current supply of herbs and berries between checkups on her leader's side. Giving a shake of her head to clear her mind, Birchwing tucked back down to gently push the small pile of berries back together to begin recounting. Her tail tip twitched in annoyance, eyes narrowed as she separated each juniper berry as it was counted. She was focused. There was nothing that would tear her from her chore this time. After all, her mentor had always taught her to keep a well-stocked inventory for a clan their size.
Well, focused on up until the moment she heard a groan from one of the nests. Birchwing's ears flicked forwards and she quickly abandoned the juniper berries to peek into the nesting section of the medicine den. Her gaze slide to the only occupied nest. "Oh! Echostar, you are awake." Birchwing spoke softly, padding over to her leader after picking up a few dandelion leaves. "Are you in pain? Feeling any better? Did you sleep well enough?" She questioned, a bit worried over Echostar. Birchwing placed the leaves down to sniff at the wound that currently occupied the other she-cat's side.
xxxthough echostar hated to be stuck inside of the medicine cat den for more than a few hours, it was a perk that she got to be around birchwing. she was very compassionate and always kind to the leader, even when her warrior were starting to look down on her for being 'weak' and staying with the medicine cat to heal. she was snapped out of her thoughts when she heard the she-cats voice and was overwhelmed with her flood of questions. "the pain is getting better but it's still there and, i guess, i slept well enough," she told her. "how much longer to you think it will take to heal?" she asked. deep down, she knew she was being impatient, wounds like this took long than just a few days to heal, but she also couldn't forgive herself for being stuck outside of the fighting she was suppose to be doing beside her clanmates and decisions she was suppose to be making for her clan.
xxx xxxBirchwing was quiet, ears flicked forward as she eyed her leader in slight suspicion. She noticed she had overwhelmed the older she-cat, a sheepish look overcoming her expression. Birchwing settled down beside Echostar, neatly curling her tail over her paws. “Well... I don’t know how long you’ll remain here.” She admitted, head tilted. “...Are you sure the pain is getting better? I don’t want to dimiss you sooner and risk seeing you injured further.” The small medicine cat commented, dipping her head down again to inspect the paste and cobwebs that had been used to help aide the healing process of the wound.
xxx"well, it still feels like a bundle of brambles wrapped around my waist but it's better than the feeling of being ripped apart that i had yesterday," echostar groaned, trying to shift her weight in anyway possible to relieve some pressure on her side. of course, nothing worked and she was left trying to shut out the pain. a leader couldn't be weak. if she couldn't even handle her own pain, how was she suppose to effectively lead a whole clan? she took a deep breath and tried to push everything out of her mind, realizing something. if she was stressed, there was no way her body to heal quickly and properly.
xxx xxx”Yes.. being alive is far better than being eaten by a fox.” Birchwing commented, giving a teasing lick to Echostar’s ear. She rose after a few more minutes to change the paste and cobwebs on Echostar’s side, deep in thought. She was starting to notice the way her leader acted in her den, she knew Echostar wanted out sooner than later. Birchwing gave a soft hum before lifting her gaze to the other. “Well.. I’m going to grab me a piece of fresh kill, would you like one?” She offered, stepping back slightly.
xxxechostar blushed a bit when the medicine cat licked her ear. they had been talking for a while because, of course, they were in the same clan and echostar being bisexual (with a female preference) in a clan with only she-cat and tom relationships, was always seeking any attention from she-cats. she nodded. "yeah, uh, that would be great," she said, smiling through her pain. at least she had someone to talk to right now and, someone who was actually interested in talking with her not just because she was the leader.
