-that afternoon-

Alex got home tiredly but tried to look happy for jace. He desperately wanted things to work between them and so was going to be visiting his house more often to try to give them a chance. He got out of his truck and went to the front door, knocking as he felt nervousness rush through him.

Jace ran a hand tiredly through his hair. He answered the door, hoping it wasn't Penelo. "Hey," he said softly, seeing Alex there. He didn't want to talk outside of the house where others could here, so he let Alex in quickly. If Alex was made at him, he didn't want the neighbours or anyone else overhearing. He just wanted to be able to speak to Alex alone.

Alex smiled and once he shut the door behind him he pinned jace against the wall and kissed him deeply. The scent of dirt and jace's sweat filled his nose and he gripped his waist in one hand as his other slipped to the back of jace's neck. "I missed you." He muttered against his lips as he looked at him lovingly.

Jace melted against him, wrapping his arms around and pulling him closer, kissing him back. "I-I missed you to," he breathed, gazing into his eyes. How could he not want to be with someone like Alex? It was impossible not to. But he knew he had to let him go. It was for his sake. He deserved better than Jace. "We need to talk," he managed to get out, a mutter against his lips.

Alex looked at him confused but quickly pushed away his fear. "It couldnt be anything bad. They were just starting over and he hadnt had time to do anything wrong yet. "Ok. Ill make dinner while we talk." He kissed his cheel before walking into the kitchen and starting to cook. "Is everything ok?"

Jace gave him another kiss before pulling away. "No," he answered honestly, going over and resting his hands on the countertop as he watched Alex cook. "Penelo came to see me at work," he told him. And before he could reply, he went on. "She means well. She knows what's better for you than I do. I shouldn't be keeping you from your people. You're an elf. I'm not. I'm just a human. We shouldn't..." He sighed, stressed, looking down at his faint own reflection on the countertop. "You should be with your own people, not me. I'm not important enough for you. I'm not like you. I'm normal. No, I'm a mess. A complete mess. I want you around, and that's me being selfish. I need you here with me, but you should be with you're own people. Your family. I'm...Look, Alex. I love you. But you deserve better than this. Than me."

"No." Alex spoke simply but his tone was sharp. He didnt look at jace as he continued to cook, not wanting jace to see the anger in his eyes. "As far as im concerned you are my family and you promised not to leave me just yet. If you really want to break up with me then do it over something i did, not over what someone outside of the two of us wants."

Jace let out a breath of air that he hadn't realized he had been holding and leaned against the counter as his legs gave out in relief. "You don't know how much that means to me to here that," he sighed, and he made his way over to him. He rested his hands on Alex's hips and softly kissed the back of his neck. "I hope you don't think that I wanted to leave you. I don't. That's the last thing I want. I just thought you'd be unhappy here, with me, and..." He rested his forehead against his back between his shoulder blades. "I guess I just panicked. I'm sorry." He sucked in a shaky breath, Alex's familiar scent soothing him.

Alex leaned into him, calming down a bit. He continued cooking, allowing Jace to calm down. "Im not going anywhere. I want to be with you jace and so as long as you want me ill be around." He turned around and wrapped his arms around jace, pulling him close and kissing his forehead. "I love you amd that wont ever change."

Jace smiled, burying his face in his chest, hugging him close. "I love you, too." He felt so relieved, and he was glad Alex loved him. He needed to hear this.
