❝you're ─ you're really cool.❞

❝Sorry.❞ Rhys mumbled after the mention of him being tense, forcing his shoulders down. He began to relax when he felt Zer0’s hand playing with his hair. Rhys let out a sigh, smiling softly at Zer0 in a thankful manner.

❝It’s just... when I told Jack that I wasn’t going to go through with his plan, when he was in my mind, he totally freaked out. I guess I should have expected it, seeing as he was literally insane, but...❞ Rhys looked at the wall, inhaling sharply. ❝It’s just what he said, I guess. He said that everyone who he’s care about has betrayed him, and he said I was one of them.❞ His eyes went to his hands, looking and feeling guilty. He swallowed the lump in his throat as he continued.

❝And the thing is, I don’t know if that was the truth. I don’t know if he trusted me. I trusted him, and I wanted to help him get back on top, but... He was too far gone, I guess. Had the wrong ideas.❞ He glanced at Zer0. ❝Before I trapped him in the ECHO eye, I told him I was sorry, and he begged for me not to do it. He was so desperate.❞ He shuddered.

❝Seeing him dead, a body, evidence? I.. I don’t know. I don’t know why I feel this way, Zer0.❞

Zero continued the motions as Rhys spoke, a faint frown on his lips, even if it was unseen (he didn't allow his helmet to display a frowny). "He betrayed some of those others first." He stated, his voice sounding alittle strained as he put the words together outside of his usual speaking pattern, as if talking normally actually hurt. "Not sure where it started. But we saw the results of him betraying someone. Restrained and suspended in the air, surrounded by a giant dome of nearly indestructable glass. Tubes and wires and tecnological pieces married her skin, to subdue her and control her. Pump her full of Eridium. So small and frail." His voice gets progressively worse, occassionally coughing as he spoke. Angel didn't deserve any of that. She was a sixteen year old girl. JACK'S sixteen year old girl. His own flesh and blood and he betrayed her, treated her as if she was nothing but an object to fuel his own plans.

❝you're ─ you're really cool.❞

Rhys wasn't sure how to feel when Zer0 spoke normally, a little confused, but went along with it. He didn't like it when Zer0 began to cough, his hand sliding onto Zer0's shoulder as he knit his eyebrows, worried. But he listened anyways, curious as to what Zer0 had to say. He was just glad the assassin didn't start calling him crazy for his emotions right then and there.

He mutters, ❝He was insane,❞ with a far-away look in his eyes, as if he was processing the information. It's not like he didn't know. He worked for the guy for years, thought he knew him, thought he looked up to him. Handsome Jack had an influence over everyone, and Rhys... Rhys modelled himself to be exactly like him. The way he dressed, spoke, presented himself in all situations.

It was all Jack.

❝I see it every time I close my eyes.❞ Rhys admitted, now almost refusing to look at Zer0. ❝His expression before I pulled out my eye. The pure desperation in his voice, his face. He was on his knees.❞ It was too similar to Rhys when he was begging for Jack to not hurt Zer0, and both of them had just looked away and done the deed anyways. ❝I don't know.❞

Maybe that said a lot about both of them.

Zero gave Rhys a light squeeze to comfort him, pulling rhys close so to turn his head and seemingly give the other a kiss to the forehead himself even with his helmet on to try and comfort him. "But your not crazy / You are strong willed and smarter / your better then him." He answered, hoping to help Rhys settle down now as he held him.

"It is unavoidable / be desperate when dying / it had been an act." He reassured, lightly rubbing Rhys arm in a comforting manner as he laid there. Hopefully his words would help Rhys and hopefully help him see that he was nothing like jack. That jack just used rhys as a tool and deserved no sympathy right now. That everything was going to be okay now that Rhys didn't have to worry about Jack or the Echo Eye and all that. They just had to worry about this one assassin because the buyers dead, so the others would of left and this one would only return because of pride and then they could relax and have some piece of mind for a while.

❝you're ─ you're really cool.❞

Rhys listened to him speak, smiling a little when he pressed his helmet to his forehead and closed his eyes momentarily. When he opened them, he responded to Zer0 with a simple acknowledgement that he knew what Zer0 was communicating. ❝You’re right.❞

Jack had been desperate, begging for Rhys to keep him alive because he couldn’t handle the fact he was about to die a second time. His head was so far in the clouds that Jack couldn’t realize when he’s bitten off more than he could chew, or has gotten himself into a situation that won’t turn out well. Rhys knew that the bad guys never win ... but in everyone’s stories, theyre all the good guy. It was subjective.

Yet Jack always lost. Rhys was sure that if Jack had any last words, it would have been a plead to stay alive. He was sure that in that moment, Rhys could’ve made a terrible decision that could’ve gotten them killed. Zer0’s words helped him realize that; like a wake-up call.

❝Thank you, Zer0, it means a lot to me.❞ Rhys said, looking at him. He was beginning to feel better as Zer0 continued to comfort him, letting the tension out of his shoulders. He relaxed into the assassin’s touch, finally, and looked up at the ceiling.

❝Best ninja assassin I know.❞

Zero gave a playful roll of his eyes at the end comment, but a bright red still showed up on his helmet. "That comment again / As we stated before hand / we're the only one." He answered playfully as he pulled Rhys just a touch closer for a moment before loosening their hold. Rhys had definitely relaxed some, which was good, it meant their words worked. Which meant Rhys was feeling better. Their 'mission' accomplished.

Which was quite pleasing to them, a soft and content hum escaping him as he let his eyes close in a content manner. This was nice and simple wind down. Nothing to interrupt them at this very moment and merely just basking in each others presence.

Rhys snickered, looking over at Zer0 with a tiny smirk on his lips. ❝I just like to remind you.❞ He teased, and leaned forward to press his head against his helmet. His eyes closed, now content, with things that he had to get off his chest gone and it felt like the weight of the world was lifted off his shoulders. Rhys barely got to relax, so he took this opportunity with Zer0 and cherished it while he could.

He felt safe. For the first time in a while, he felt safe. Despite the fact that Zer0 was injured and they could get attacked at any moment; Jack was gone, and it made Rhys feel like there was nothing else that could come after them. Jack, who had been in the back of Rhys' mind ever since he took out his ECHO eye, reminding him that he would one day be back, was gone.

He opened his eyes momentarily, kissing the top of Zer0's helmet.

Zero hummed in a content manner when rhys laid yet another kiss on their helmet, rather pleased and content at the moment. Everything was exactly as it should now which was great. They got to enjoy this moment for quite a bit of time. Rhys was also relaxed, so perhaps he can even get a good deal of work done later with little distractions.

❝you're ─ you're really cool.❞

Rhys would have left the room eventually, shifting off the bed carefully to not hurt Zer0 and excusing himself by going, ❝I have some work to catch up on. Call me if you need me.❞ Accompanied by a smile. When Rhys left the room, however, he melted against the closed door in the hallway and groaned about how Zer0 would be the death of him.

A while had passed of Zer0 naturally healing, something Rhys knew he wasn’t used to. Despite this, he had been doing quite well. At least he was able to move without pain shooting throughout his body, right?

So, when Rhys arrived in the bedroom, a medical assistant with him, they told Zer0 he was no longer bedridden. Though the assistant tried to tell him that means he can move around but cannot go on missions, Rhys simply laughed and shooed her out of the room after thanking her for the help.

So, Zer0 was getting better.

❝I’m sure you’re desperate to get out of here.❞ Rhys said, arms crossed. There wasn’t much to do in Atlas, especially if you were injured and bedridden. ❝What’s the first order of business?❞

Zero is fixing his gear into its slots the moment he was able to despite how upset and annoyed the medical girl seems. He shrugs a bit at her expression despite the >:3 on his helmet. Once she's gone and its just rhys asking questions he nods easily about being desperate to get out. He really needed to get out, especially with how he's been warriors drool rag the last few days. It also doesn't help Warrior is responding more to the word 'buddy' then warrior.

When Rhys asked what his first order o business was, just as he slotted his digi-blade handle into its rightful place. "Finding the other / That will be the first mission / i will not be stopped." He informed easily. Deal with the assassin, just to remove the final piece of tension in their lives, then they can relax completely and Rhys could walk outside of atlas with 'Buddy' or 'Bubha' as a couple of the employees liked to call Warrior, who they'd seemed to of found use for because of Warriors little Lazer spitting ability. But at least it tamed /some/ of the Eridium monsters energy.
