"That sounds fine to me." said Mary softly. Henry returned with the pups. "We got Alessa's sample down safely." he grinned. Henry was upset over the news, but he didn't tend to show his emotions in public.

Rainer nodded as he looked back at them, he gently picked up Alessa, "We need to talk sweetheart." he said softly, carrying her out of the room. Matt watched, surprised, but he remained by Henry's side.

[Boomer]

Alessa was confused as she was picked up. She thought perhaps she had done something wrong. Mary looked over to Matt, patting her bed. "Come and sit, Matthew." she said softly, "I need to talk to you about something very important."

Matt looked surprised, he walked over and sat on the bed, "What's going on?" he asked her softly, startled.

Rainer looked at Alessa, "Alessa, something happened, and it's going to hurt, but it'll be okay." he said gently, "Max passed away." he told her.

Mary took Matt's paws and looked to him. "Matthew, your father suddenly fell ill and passed away." she said softly, "I want you to know that it isn't your fault, nothing you did caused this to happen. Sometimes people suddenly die and we don't always know why." She pulled the pup into a hug.

Alessa just stared at Rainer with a blank expression. She had been close to death herself, but she had never had anyone close to her die. "I don't understand..." she said slowly, "He's dead? I... I don't..." The girl was more confused at the moment than anything. She knew his stomach had been hurting the night before, but Max told her he had always had that problem.

Matt blinked, "W-what?" he asked her, he began to cry, burying his face against her, terrified, he didn't know what to do, his dad was dead, the last of his family, and he was shaking with fear, and pain. He hugged her tightly, forgetting that she had just had surgery, just needing her comfort.

Rainer looked at her, "Sometimes people just die, it isn't your fault, it's no ones fault, it just happens. No one knew it would happen, and there was no way to stop it, but it's not anyones fault." he said softly.

Mary felt some pain from Matt's hug, but now wasn't the time to complain. She let him cling to her as she petted his back. "It's okay, I know it hurts..." she said quietly, "Don't keep your emotions bottled up."

"May I see him?" she asked quietly, not knowing if that was okay to ask. Alessa slightly lowered her ears. She still didn't quite believe that he was dead.

Rainer nodded, "Of course." he said softly, carrying the pup to the room Max was in till they could take him to the morgue. He looked at the sheet covered body, "Are you sure?" he asked softly.

Alessa allowed Rainer to carry her downstairs. Once they got to the room, it finally hit her that Max wasn't okay. She saw the sheet over Max; she had seen many burn victims be carted out with sheets over their bodies. However, she had never seen a dead person up close. "I-I..." she stuttered, unable to form her thoughts. She buried her muzzle into Rainer's jacket and clung onto him tightly, sobbing at the sight.

Rainer hugged her tightly and walked back out of the room, he rubbed her back, "I am so sorry sweetie." he said softly, knowing this hurt, "I know it hurts, and it's okay, just let it out, we are all here for you."
