Maria entered the kitchen and looked over to him. "Yeah, you haven't destroyed the house." she said, giving a nod.

David laughed. "Good to know I could be worse."

[Boomer]

"Just don't scorch the food, y'know?" she said, approaching him. She peered into the oven. "Looks good." she added.

[LilacSky]

"Thanks." David smiled from the compliment. "I'll try not to burn it."

[Boomer]

Maria looked around quickly, then lightly put her paw on David's muzzle. "Easy on the b-word, remember?" she whispered.

David paled, his ears back. "O-of course. My apologies." He cursed himself internally. After all this time with Alessa, and still he made mistakes. Maria and Mary seemed like perfect parents. Why couldn't he be more like them? Or like Jim, who also loved pups? He sighed and kept cooking.

[Boomer]

Maria nodded a little, relieved that Alessa didn't hear him. She knew Mary wasn't strong enough to pin down the pup and give her Valium.

David kept his mouth firmly shut and finished making dinner without another word. Maybe if he just never spoke again, he'd be less of a failure?

Maria helped plate everyone's meals and set the table. She then called everyone into the dining room.

David rolled to his usual spot and waited for everyone to arrive.
