As the sirens passed, Orrin peered around the trash can giving a slight huff in annoyance. He wasn't going to let anyone separate Dawn from him, not even the police. If they were caught, then Dawn and Orrin would most likely be sent back to the hospital, which was the last thing the merman wanted. Even though truthfully, they probably needed to stay at the hospital to let the doctors take care of them. Both of them had been hit pretty hard on the head and Orrin's wounds still hadn't been taken care of. The young merman probably needed a few stitches, but he wasn't going to let a nurse get anywhere near him with a needle if he could help it. Dawn was the only person he would allow to get close enough to him to help him.

Orrin sat back and glanced back at Dawn with a small nod as he suggested they move once the sirens were gone, " Good idea". As he noticed that she was attempting to stand, he immediately went over to offer her support. Gently, he put his arm around her shoulders and let her lean on him if she needed to. " Yeah, ready to go" Orrin replied cheerily, returning her smile, " Come on"

Dawn did take advantage of his body and she leaned against him for support as she began to somewhat limp/walk. The brace on her knee did help quite a bit so she was almost walking normally, though, it did hurt. When she got home, she’d go into her dad’s boat and take the first aid kit so she could help heal his wounds. “When we get to my home, I want you to go to the back window. I am going to go through the front so my Dad does not get suspicious. When I get to my room, I will let you in then help heal your wounds. I need you to be alright before you go back home...” She looked to his features and she felt a bit sad. She had only known him for a day and she had already felt like she needed him in her life or she couldn’t live. She felt as if he was her lucky charm. “Do you miss them?”

Orrin let her lean on him without any compliant; truthfully he just was glad that Dawn seemed to be doing a lot better than before. It made him happy to see her able to walk, even with a little help from him. It felt almost unreal to know that they could have been killed in the storm- yet here they were, walking together side-by-side. Orrin was beyond grateful to have met Dawn; she was the kindest, most caring person the warrior had ever met in his life. He sincerely enjoyed her company and admired her fearlessness. A tiny smile tugged at his lips as he snuck a glance at the young woman. Maybe it was a bit foolish, but Orrin was slowly falling for Dawn.

" Yes... I miss them all the time. " Orrin said, his voice filled with sadness, " My brothers... they must think I was killed in the storm." He couldn't help but think about his family- he had them on his mind nearly every minute he was on land. Orrin couldn't wait to go home and assure them he was alive. Though, another though made him his frown deepen. Orrin now realized that once he got home he would be forced to leave Dawn- possibly forever. Remorse tugged painfully at his chest- he didn't want to leave her behind. But... he didn't really belong in the human world.

“Well, when you go home, I will miss you dearly. Would you be able to visit?” She asked this hopefully, nuzzling into his warm body. She really hoped that he would say yes, but she couldn’t bet on it. Not at all. His family was different than hers, and all she knew is that he would be a big distraction. She had work. She didn’t really have time for fun. When she’d wake up the next morning, she’d probably have to suck up the pain, and head to work. Her family needed her more than Orrin needed her probably. He might even just leave in the morning and she’d never see him again. She wanted this not to be true.

“My home is right there.” She gestured to a small, shack like home somewhat next to the edge of a hill. On the bottom of the hill was water and down the hill was where her Fathers boat was. “Over here. I need to get something in the boat.” She gestured to the small fishing boat and she turned to go that way.

" I'll miss you too," Orrin agreed quietly, " But... promise I'll visit. Warrior's honor" He said, giving her a gentle bear hug just to make her smile. He was strangely comforted by Dawn's presence, though he knew things weren't going to be like this forever. Orrin had to get home to protect his tribe- it was his duty as a warrior. And he was sure that Dawn had important things to do as well. She didn't need a merman to worry about all of the time. Dawn could never love him, a merman... right? Orrin gave a tiny sigh, wishing things were different. Perhaps if he were a human, then they could be together? The warrior shook the thought from his head, blushing a bit from the childishness of it. None of that mattered at the moment; what mattered was they still had time together, even if it wasn't much.

As Dawn motioned to her home, Orrin turned his head to look at the small shack. " Nice," He complimented sincerely, with a satisfied nod " Much better than the hospital." Though it was small, he liked that it was close to the water and not at all like the busy, sterile hospital. Though it was unlike the Merpeople's homes, Orrin thought that it was quite nice for a human home. The warrior followed Dawn to the boat, looking longingly out at the water. He desperately wanted to go out for a swim, but he knew that was probably not a good idea at the moment.

Dawn’s smiled returned from his promise and she tightened her grip around him when she hugged him. “I wish this was easier, no? Like... if you could be human or if I could be a mermaid. Then we could be with each other more. I don’t know how you live down there, but I bet it is great.” She said this cheerfully and honestly. If she could be a mermaid for even a day, she’d probably die from a heart attack. But of course, a happy heart attack. :)

“Ah... I guess so. Me and my younger Brother share a room, but he is still too young to understand. He won’t say much. He’s very shy. I take him to work since my Dad goes out fishing.” She sighed a little and shook her head. “Do merpeople get trapped in fishing nets?” She asked this quietly, kind of disappointed in her Fathera work, but it’s all they could afford. Fish? All they ate. An occasional potato with the meal, but that’s all.

" Yeah, me too " Orrin smiled softly, though his heart felt as if it would break with sorrow, " Wish we could be together more. Though... i don't belong on land really... " Very gently, he tucked a stray lock of Dawn's hair behind her ear in an affectionate way. " Don't think you'd like living in the water much. It's... different than here. You'd miss your family. And land-dweller things. " He said quietly, but he smiled again with a crooked grin, " And we have sharks! They bite" Playfully, he gave a bubbly laugh and pretended to bite Dawn's neck, but instead lightly kissed her cheek to make her giggle. He didn't want her to be upset that he had to leave, so he tried to push away the heavy sorrow weighing on his chest.

The merman pulled away gently, his eyes still sparkling with a hint of mischievousness. He smiled as she spoke, wanting to know more about Dawn's family. " You have a brother? What is his name?" He said interestedly, " I have five brothers. Two older, three younger. No sisters." Orrin explained with a faint smile as he thought about his family. At her question, the warrior shook his head sadly, " Sometimes. Merpeople are careful to stay away from nets, but some still get trapped. Nets look invisible in murky water. Our fins get tangled up in them if we get caught. Hurt sometimes or worse, but most make it out fine." He patted his dagger, which was still hidden under his shirt, " All of us carry blades just in case of trouble."

She smiled and chuckled, shaking his hard. “Oh
No. Not sharks!” She squeezed and blushed from the fake bite and kiss to her cheek. Her cheeks were on fire and she looked like a tomato as she fiddled with her fingers, awkwardly glancing around. “I’m going to miss your silliness.” She stuck her tongue out and slowly pulled away, stepping into the boat. She looked around, trying to find the first aid kit.

“My Brother? Daniel. Though, I call him Mini D for fun.” She smirked with a cheeky grin before humming. “Dice his name starts with D and he’s tiny and all.” She shrugged and finally found the first aid kit, turning around to look at him, surprised. “That’s... a lot of siblings. Are they all as nice as you?” She tilted her head, humming a bit as she listened to him. “Ah. There are shootings around here often but it’s illegal to have a gun or weapon so i don’t.” She sighed lightly and shook her head. “Follow me.” She limped our of the boat and up the small-ish hill. She pointed to her window and she gestured him to go there. “I will be inside and I’ll open the window in a few minutes.”

Orrin gave a warm laugh, his heart feeling much lighter than before. Why can't every day be like this? I don't think I've ever this much fun as this in a long time He thought happily. The warrior grinned crookedly down at Dawn as he noticed her adorable blush. " Really? You like my silliness?" Orrin chuckled as he watched her step into the small fishing boat. He followed after her, looking around the boat though he wasn't sure what all of the gear was for. Orrin turned his attention back to Dawn as she talked about her brother. " Daniel?" He repeated, cracking a smile as her nickname for her brother. " Clever! Like it" He chuckled warmly" Yes, a lot of siblings! We fight a lot, but most are nice as me- except maybe my oldest brother Juno. He is a little grumpy sometimes." Orrin laughed warmly, obviously not meaning any harm by playful teasing. He really did love all of his brothers equally.

The merman listened carefully as Dawn explained about the shootings going on; though he really didn't know what a gun was, but he knew that it was some dangerous form of a weapon. He looked very surprised that they weren't allowed to have weapons at all here. " But.. how do you land-dwellers protect yourselves without a weapon? Or hunt for food? " Orrin asked confusedly as he followed her to the house, " Land-dweller's rules are strange." He remarked. The merman nodded when she pointed to the window and explained what she wanted him to do. " Will wait there for you" He promised

“Ah. Well, still, if I ever could, I would love to meet them all. They sound quite wonderful.” Dawn hummed and nudged him before stepped to the door. “Thank you. Now shhhh.” She put her finger to her mouth as a signal to stay quiet before she stepped inside. She slowly and quietly walked down the hallway, glancing into the living room. What did she see? Her Father asleep. Well... not asleep. More like passed out. She looked on the ground and scattered on it was alcohol. Dawn frowned and sighed. That’s usually where all the money she earned went. For his pleasure of drinking. Dawn walked to her room when she heard crying. She looked to her two year old Brother and she frowned, picking him up from his crib. She held him close and started to bounce a little. “Shh Shh Shh....” she placed him down on the diaper changing table, smelling that he probably hadn’t been changed while she was gone. Poor thing. Dawn quickly went to her window and opened it for Orrin before going to her door and locking it. She then went back to her baby brother and she began to clean him up.
