marcella nodded. she shouldn’t lie. oh well. she shrugged and grabbed a soda, sitting on the couch. although she had made the others breakfast, she wasn’t hungry herself.

river silently ate his pancake, kat soon coming down and grabbing some for herself before taking a seat on the couch, bidding everyone a good morning with a hum. she glanced to river, who was purposefully avoiding sitting down so he wasn't near joshua, her father. kat sighed quietly, moving her eyes to the tv.

marcella pulled out her phone, walking outside to make an appointment. it would be harmless, right? she sighed as sje came inside and sat back down. she looked to river and gave him a thumbs up.

kat tilted her head in confusion as marcella got up and walked outside. when she returned and gave river a thumbs up, to which he gave one back, she glanced at michelle with a confused expression. river snickered quietly, rising to his feet and sighing. "i'm gonna go to the mall, or something. i need new clothes." he muttered, heading upstairs to his room to get ready.

marcella laughed at kat’s expression. “alright. have fun. there’ll be mac and cheese waiting for you when you get home!” she shouted after him with a smile, pulling the recipe out of her pocket.

river returned downstairs, now ready. he nodded a thanks to marcella, opening the door and exiting the house. kat casually stood up, making her way to marcella before raising her brows. "what's going on?" she questioned with a slight smile.

marcella smiled. “he’s helping me... i don’t know if i wanna go to a therapist though..” she sighed, running a hand through her hair. “i don’t know how,but he was completely right about the reason i treat those boys.”

kat smiled slightly at marcella's words. "river can be super irritating sometimes. but he's good at reading people." she murmured, taking a seat. "he likes to help people that are hurting.. i think it makes him feel less hurt, somehow." kat murmured, her eyes moving over to her parents with a sigh. "they treated him like he was nothing for the longest time. i don't know if it's too late now." shaking her head, she looked back to marcella. "i think you should try therapy. just one session. see how it goes."

marcella bit her lip. “oh... so we’re both broken..” she said quietly. she looked to kat. “o-okay. i’ll try it.” she said, running a hand through her hair. she smiled at kat and straightened her top.

kat smiled as marcella agreed to trying therapy. "good." she spoke happily, glancing to the mac and cheese recipe. "need any help?" kat then offered, leaning against the counter to let her eyes skim over the words on the card.
