xi. kehlani is a dog who has built up her barriers
to protect herself from getting hurt. she sees
the world as a bad place, an even worse place
for a stray such as her. she was born in a bad
home, being thrown into many dog fights even
though she wasn't the biggest or strongest dog.
kehlani had to protect herself because nobody
else would. two years later her owner is caught
and put in jail, while she was taken to the dog
shelter. kehlani has learned to be strong, even
though she comes off rude at times she doesn't
mean it. she just needs someone to show her
that not everyone is bad, that the world's a good
place. little does she know, she'll find just that.

getting involved in other people's business but sometimes finds herself dealing
with it. she picks and chooses her friends and will essentially cut you out of her
life if she decides that she doesn't like you, almost as if she had a bubble with
all her friends and loved ones inside.

history: heidi was born in a puppy mill and was sold to a pet store. she was
placed near the window so everyone would see her. the pup was sold to an
elderly woman who didn't take care of her properly. the police found out and
brought heidi to the animal shelter.

and will roll around in them; likes talking to plants

kehlani's eyes darted around as the truck was being drove down a dirt road, which unknowingly lead to the shelter. she was filled with emotions. fear, happiness, and curiosity to name just a few. kehlani was mostly afraid. the kai ken had no idea where she was headed too and no idea whether this place was safe. as questions were flooding through her mind she was startled when the truck back doors were opened, sunlight now shining through the cage. kehlani felt the floor under her move, instantly making her sit down as she was carried into the shelter. soon enough her cage was set down in a room, where she was met with the kind face of who she assumed was the veterinarian. to be honest kehlani didn't mind vets, she knew they were just trying to help her. the vet opened her cage door and gave kehlani her space, then giving the kai ken her proper shots and cleaning up some of the wounds that were on her legs. once the vet gave the thumbs up she was being taken to her cage. the questions came back, 'who is it?', 'are they nice?'

>> it had been three weeks since the day heidi had been brought to the shelter. she had thought that the shelter was bland and uninteresting compared to the lady's house. her house had bright vintage wallpaper in every room from the 1950s and 60s. the lady was also very fond of collecting flowers, which heidi was very interested in. when the lady was gone, heidi would jump up onto the tables and chat with the plants. she knew that the woman did not like her barking. although it was a nice house, heidi was fed not so often. as a result, heidi was taken to the animal shelter.

but now, since that day, the sheepdog had been cooped up inside her cage. she had walks twice a day but it wasn't enough. there wasn't much she could do, apart from taking long naps, eating, and playing with the few toys she had with her. today was different. she awoke from her nap to see the kai ken being brought to the cage next to her. a newcomer..? she thought, not really thinking much about it. within a few moments, the canine was asleep again.

kehlani looked at the cages that surrounded hers, her left side was right up against a wall - much to kehlani's delight - while her right looked to have some type of sheepdog in it. she didn't get but only a quick glance as she was now in her cage. her eyes observed the cage, there was a bed, a few toys that held little to no interest, food and water bowls. it wasn't much but it would have to do. the last thing the humans did was fill the two bowls, closing the cage as they left the kai ken to settle in. after a good hour kehlani started chewing on one of the balls that was laid in the cage, which was pretty useless seeing that she had no one to play with might i add. " stupid toy...almost as stupid as these humans." the black dog mumbled to herself, unaware of the listening ears beside her. she toss the toy aside, resting her head on her paws.

>> heidi awoke to the sound of her cage being opened by one of the humans. she excitedly stood up and wagged her tail excitedly, anticipating her favorite time of the day- her evening walk. the human put her on a leash and walked outside the shelter, making sure to bring plastic bags.

kehlani's ears perked up when the sound of the cage door beside her was being opened, seeing that a human was also opening her cage door she pressed her body against the back of the cage. the human reached back they slipped the collar over kehlani's head, even though she gave a few growls she got out of the cage. the kai ken looked around curiously, coming to the conclusion that they were all going on a walk. she sighed, reluctantly following the human.

>> heidi held her head up high during her walk, stopping to sniff the ground every once in a while. it felt nice to stretch her legs after being cooped up in her cage all day. when they turned around to go back inside, the sheepdog passed a black kai ken. her ears perked up a bit when she noticed the other dog, but the human kept walking. heidi didn't even a chance for her to sniff the dog.

as the human was walking her, the sheepdog passed by. kehlani observed the female for a second, then recognizing her as the dog in the cage beside her. the black kai ken was pulled out of her thoughts as the human tugged on the leash a bit to signal that they were going back inside. kehlani snarled a bit as a response, following behind the human back into the building. she wasn't very fond of this human, but she never really was fond of them. the human put the kai ken back into her cage, "make me live in a cage the rest of my life why don't you.." kehlani mumbled loudly enough for heidi to hear.
