Nora didn't speak but nodded a bit. She pointed to her tail and then made a heart with her hands. She really did like her tail but she didn't know if she could talk or not so she didn't try. Nora was uncomfortable so she shook her arms rapidly and tried to get out of the tight grip the mermaid had on her she used her free hand to tug on the necklace. She was scared as she continued to breathe the water. "I don't want the necklace." She murmured her voice shaky. She coughed again and pressed her lips into a tight line.

She was noticeably confused by the human's reaction to her tail, glancing down to it before looking back to her. She...liked it? It was a strange feeling. Quickly dismissing this for more urgent matters, she slowly released her grip on the girl's hand. While she attempted to keep her other hand over the necklace, it only managed to push her a few feet away. "Please, it's the only thing keeping you alive. If you want to take it off after the storm passes, or once back to shore, then you can give it back." Aspen's tail slowly moved through the water, keeping her more or less in place. Her features were still covered in worry and stress. She ran both her hands through her short hair, pushing it back and trying to figure out this whole situation. It was insane.

She took a deep breath and put her hands on the mermaid's shoulders."Okay... I trust you... My name is Nora. What's yours?" She asked the pretty girl before she moved her hands down so the held onto the mermaid's hands. "I'm stupid for coming out here in a storm but thanks to you... I'm still alive... Thank you so much." She choked a bit on the water but she quickly regained herself and smiled a bit. She continued holding the mermaid's hands as she swam over to the reef. She was amazed.

She gave the start of a smile, just an upward curl of the corners of her lips. "Aspen." Her answer was simple, her gaze lowering to their interlocked hands. Her smile widened as Nora thanked her and began towards the reef. "Really, it was the least I could do." Using her tail to move forward, she caught up to where the other girl was. Releasing one of her hands so that they could swim side by side, she passed her and began swimming quicker, pulling her alongside her.

Nora shrieked a bit and tightened her grip on Aspen’s hand. She tried to catch up to her but got tired and barely moved her legs. ”I wish I had a tail.” She quietly said and looked at what she thought were her useless legs. ”I can’t even try to swim as fast as you.”

Aspen turned her head to look back at Nora, keeping her tail straight so all that was moving them was their momentum. She pursed her lips in thought of what the girl had said, pulling their locked hands above her head so they were more or less face to face. The mermaid turned so that her back was towards the seafloor, with Nora above her. "And I can't even try to walk...at all." She released Nora's hand, lacing her own fingers together over her stomach and watching her with a bittersweet smile.

She thought over the question for several moments, turning her body and giving a few quick strokes of her tail to bring her to the sea's floor. From there, she turned once more and gently rested her back against a sandy patch. Aspen outstretched her hand and placed it on a large rock to keep her in place, looking back up to Nora and the surface, still dark with the storm. "The freedom." she finally answered, a smile spreading over her lips. "I don't need a house, or a car, or a job. I'm totally unattached." Her smile broke as she ran her free hand through the sand, turning her head to look elsewhere. "Which I suppose also gets lonesome."

She nodded and coughed. She started swimming to the surface. The necklace had fallen off and now Nora couldn't breathe. She looked at the oncoming waves once she popped her head out of the water and breathed in. She coughed again and took a deep breath and held it as she went back underwater. She pointed to her bare neck and panicked. Her eyes were full of fear as her lips trembled. She went back to the surface and took another deep breath and soon went back underwater.

She was confused when Nora swam to the surface, rising from her spot on the ocean floor and trying to figure out what was going on. It wasn't until she indicated her bare neck that Aspen realized she had lost the necklace. Panicked, she quickly swam halfway up, her gaze darting around in an attempt to find it. It could be anywhere! Eyes wide, she quickly made it to Nora's side, but continued to search for the thin necklace. "How'd that happen? Where did it fall off?" Aspen had worn it for so long, and never once had it fallen off. She didn't know what to do. Realizing Nora couldn't respond like this, she wrapped an arm around the human's torso and pulled her to the surface, using her tail to help keep their heads above the water. It only lasted a few seconds before another large wave crashed and forced them both back under.

Nora was turning blue before she used her weak finger to point to the necklace on the ocean floor. She tried to swim to it but became weaker. She tried one more time and grabbed it. She put it back around her neck and gasped. She was shaking and was still blue. She started coughing a bit before that the necklace could easily slip over her head because she was so small. "Is there any way you can make it tighter?" She asked quietly before swimming to a rock and sitting on it, using her hands to keep herself in place. She felt sick as she shivered a bit. She was cold because the water was getting colder from the storm and she only had a bikini on. She wasn't used to being so cold in the water.
