She had thrown the necklace over the other girl's neck as soon as she realized it could save her. Aspen had no use for it herself, but had kept it for the simple reason that it was very difficult to come across. It was solid black, little more than a thick cord, and rested against the skin. She had little idea who had made or or how exactly it worked, but it allowed a human to extract oxygen through the water, instead of the air. Her panicked features returned to the human's as she spoke, biting her lip in worry.
Another wave crashed before she was able to answer, bringing them both back under. Even with her tail, she was struggling to keep them up. "
You're going to have to trust me." she spoke, her voice loud and worried over the waves. Aspen ran a finger down the girl's collar bone, just above where the necklace now rested. Without giving her an option, she took hold of the other girl's hands and dove back under. Pulling the human with her, she swam backwards and upside down deeper into the water, with the girl held out in front of her. Aspen grimaced, knowing she was very likely to receive a terrible reaction to forcing this girl underwater. But she would drown otherwise! It was a strange transition, when lungs were forced to inhale water instead of air. Aspen had little idea how it would feel, but she imagined it would be awful until it adjusted.
