Plot: In a forest in rural Pennsylvania, a two story orphanage is nestled among the might pines and elms. One has been here for awhile, the other a new comer. To their surprise, they become the best of friends. These two begin to tell their stories and help each other heal from their past trauma. However, the friends soon realize that they may be split up into different homes; to make this even worse, the young girl's mother is searching for her to finish her off. The kids decide in order to keep safe from her abusive mother and to stay together, they run away with a plan to head for New York. They feel if they get out of the state that they can't be found. Will the kids make it, or will trouble come their way?

Name: Alessa Cecelia Gillespie
Age: 9, almost 10
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Asexual
Species/Breed: Anthro Canine; Dalmatian-mix
Personality: Generally very sweet, but very quiet, Alessa isn't quick to make friends. She normally doesn't speak to others unless she's spoken to. However, if she is your friend, she will be very loyal and loving towards you.
Appearance: Alessa and her beloved Scarlett
Likes: Stormy weather, her toy Scarlett, and taking care of animals (fish, mice, ect).
Dislikes: Fire, blood, needles, feeling like she's not in control.
Powers: Telekinesis
Weaknesses: She is unable to break bones. She can lift objects that are smaller than herself and weigh less (about 30 pounds, she's underweight), forms a protective orb around herself and whoever she wishes to protect, and uses orbs of energy to hit whatever she wants to hit. However, she gets headaches when she's used too much power/used it for a long period of time. These headaches prevent her from using it for a while, and if she breaks her focus, she's unable to use her power (such as being bitten or kicked).
History: Alessa was born to a single mother in a small town located in Pennsylvania. The pup's mother, Dahlia, struggled with raising her pup on her own and began to resent her pup. At about two years old, Alessa began to display some telekinetic power, which only angered her mother. Dahlia knew that Alessa's father had passed down the gene to her, as she could control fire. Dahlia started to abuse Alessa as the pup started to use her power more and more, eventually resorting to beating her for any small mistake. Growing tired of taking care of Alessa, her mother decided the easiest way to get rid of her pup was to have her killed. She had staged a fire and their home burned down with Alessa inside. Dahlia was able to disappear, not wanting to stick around and be caught. Alessa was swiftly rescued and taken to a hospital nearby; she stayed there for almost three years and was sent away to live in a foster home.

Birch Callister • 11 years • Male • Estrela Mountain Dog anthro

Likes: Nature, animals, movies, swimming, weird crafts, freedom
Dislikes: The heat, tight spaces, guidance, the indoors, elders
Powers wrote:Much like his name would suggest, Birch has the ability to
manipulate plants. He has little control over it, and more
often then not, when he's experiencing an intense emotion,
the plant life around him will either burst into sudden life,
or die off completely. He hasn't quite realized that he could
use this to his advantage.

Weaknesses wrote:He doesn't quite know how to control his power. It often
saps his energy without him realizing it, and he can even
pass out if he utilizes it too much. His emotions are often
influenced by the plant life around him and how he feels
about them.
Appearance wrote:Birch has typical coloration for his breed. His long coat consists of a light cream base with much darker features, almost black. His face is mostly dark, as well as his ears, save for some lighter markings around his eyes and cheeks. While his back legs are primarily cream, his front paws fade into his darker colors. The remainder of his coat is cream, with darker tips. His eyes are primarily a light brown that stands out against the darker colors on his face, with partial blue heterochromia in his left eye.

Personality wrote:Overall, Birch appears to be a very outgoing and aloof pup with a positive outlook on his life. He enjoys the typical things a child his age would, and can normally be seen with a smile on his face. Although he speaks little around adults, and is constantly watching them from the corner of his eye, he behaved much better around people his own age. He's always plotting some scheme that will normally end with him being punished, but he is far too defiant of his elders to learn his lesson.

History wrote:Birch hardly remembers his real mother due to being given up at a young age. He only recalls brief glimpses of her features, and he believes his mother was the most kind and beautiful canine there was. He's still under the allusion that she must have given him up as a mistake and that one day she will come back for him. For the duration of his childhood, he was shuffled around various foster homes, some decent, and some he swears he'll never speak of. This caused him to become very independent and cynical towards adults. After an attempted escape at his last foster home (where he was hardly treated like a living being), Birch was sent to the orphanage.

Alessa found herself all alone in her new bedroom. The girl had been dropped off at the orphanage an hour or so ago and she had been given a tour. She was now waiting for breakfast to be served. Alessa looked to her worn out stuffed dog that she called Scarlett. "Scarlett... this place sure is interesting." she whispered. The pup had never been in a group home before, so this was all new to her. As she heard a bell ring, she remembered that this was the signal that meant their meals were ready. She climbed off of her bed and went down the hall. As the other kids entered the dining room and sat down, Alessa stood in the doorway. She wasn't allowed to sit at the table when she lived with her mother. Mrs. Potter, one of the caretakers, noticed Alessa standing. The rabbit smiled kindly to her. "It's okay, Alessa, you can come and join everyone." she said. Alessa slowly approached the table, sitting in one of the empty chairs. There was only one spot left, which was to her left.

Birch suddenly lifted his head from the small plant that he had been tending to in the yard, his gaze widening as he realized how long he'd been out there. His sudden worry caused the sprout to shrivel to the ground, but the young canine was already running back towards the large house. He burst through the open doorway just as Ms. Potter told everyone they could begin eating. Birch lingered in the doorway for just a moment as he received a stern look, then a nod towards the kitchen. The pup lowered his ears and quickly scampered off to wash the dirt from his paws, returning just as quick. He glanced around the table, the majority of the children already scarfing down their breakfast. Taking the only empty seat, he glanced to his right, tilting his head as he realized he didn't know who she was. He opened his muzzle to speak, but the rabbit caretaker beat him to it, saying something that he wasn't quite listening to.

Alessa looked to the bowl of oatmeal in front of her. She watched as the others began to eat, then looked to Mrs. Potter. The pup had to be given a verbal and visual cue before she felt safe enough to eat. Mrs. Potter glanced to Alessa. "You're free to eat." she said quietly, "You don't have to wait for everyone to start." Alessa set her napkin on her lap as she put Scarlett at her feet. The girl began to reach for her spoon, but she pulled back, afraid someone was going to smack her paw away. She looked to her right to see the kid next to her eating, then looked to Birch. She watched him for a moment before finally picking up her spoon. She then scarfed down her food.

The canine glanced to Ms. Potter, then back to the new girl. Where he around more often, he'd likely have known that another child was being brought in. Realizing his constant looks may be off-putting, he quickly looked back down to his meal, taking a few bites before finally coming to his senses and speaking to her. "I'm Birch, I guess you're here to stay for awhile?" he paused for hardly a second, not giving much time to reply. The answer seemed obvious. "I can show you all the cool places if you'd like. It's pretty boring around here if you don't know them." His voice was quiet, knowing Ms. Potter would disapprove of most the places he was speaking about.

Alessa kept to herself as she ate, not joining in on the others' conversations. As she moved to stand up and put her bowl in the sink, she stopped as Birch spoke to her. Alessa settled back into her chair as she listened to him. "M-my name's Alessa." she said quietly, "T-that's Scarlett..." She bent down and picked up her worn out toy. She then tilted her head slightly. "O-oh... t-thank you." she said quietly, "I-I'd like that very much." Alessa wasn't quite sure what the kids did during the day; she was fine with staying in her room and working on some sketches. She finally got up and took her dishes to the sink. Alessa then returned to the table and looked to Birch. "W-what kind of places?" she finally asked, keeping her voice low and quiet.

Birch looked back to her as she sat back down, introducing herself, as well as her toy. He found this a bit strange (only because he'd never shared her interest in stuffed toys), but otherwise cast the thought aside. He followed her to the sink, tossing his dishes a little too carelessly in after hers, the noise it made causing some of the other kids to glance their way. "Birch, be careful! Don't be getting into any trouble." The caretaker knew him all too well, but couldn't actually do anything yet, given he hadn't broken any rules. His face scrunched at her words, but he quickly shrugged them off, returning his attention to Alessa. He simply smiled at her question "Miss, I'm going to help Alessa get settled in." Before the caretaker had much time to reply, he grabbed Alessa's free hand and began heading out of the room. "Places you'll have to keep a secret." he finally answered once through the doorway.

Alessa had slightly jumped from the sound the dishes made as they clanged together. She was a high strung girl that was too jumpy at times. As he took her paw, Alessa felt a little flustered as she followed him. She never had anyone take her paw before, at least in the manner he did. She had been dragged around before, but he didn't pull her. Alessa felt her face turn a tiny bit red. "O-oh..." she whispered, nodding as he said that the places had to be kept secret. Alessa could keep secrets fairly well, unless she was threatened with punishment. "W-where are we g-going first?" she whispered.

Birch was happy that she didn't pull away. His grip had been light, but leading, so she could have easily yanked her paw free and he would have let go. He took noticed of her reddened features, but didn't quite realize what he had done to cause it. Dismissing this, he smiled, giving a moment to think over where he would bring her first. Probably nothing too creepy (the kids had found some abandoned structures not too far away). He released her paw when they were partially down the hallway and away from the others, heading towards the back door. "Hm, I'm not sure yet." he admitted, looking back to her. "What kind of things do you like? Maybe I can decide off that."
