surprise!!!not once in the millions of years of his existence had loki thought they would return. after all, they were supposed to be far, far away from new york after the avengers had defeated them that fateful day.
surprise!!!loki, had, perhaps recklessly, let the chitauri pour into midgard as part of a plan he had believed would work, about a few months or so from today, in order to rule over the planet the humans called earth or, more specifically, new york city. per usual, however, the avengers had defeated most of the chitauri’s armies and sent the rest screaming back to wherever they had come from, leaving loki humiliated and defeated.
surprise!!!so when the chirauri had returned with the avengers whole continents away on some special mission, leaving loki alone at the avengers tower, his immediate thought was oh, crap. he could see them, now, big ugly, nasty things coming from a portal with weapons, axes and swords and others of the like, roaring at the fleeing, terrified citizens.
surprise!!!once again, loki knew it would be up to him to actually save them, this time.
surprise!!!donning the emerald green clothing loki often wore for times like this, he requested of JARVIS to inform the avengers, who were in europe, of the events which were occurring before bolting from the tower with his shoes slapping against the pavement, towards where the creatures were invading. ”chitauri,” loki shouted, feet firmly planted on the pavement as two long, shining daggers slid from his sleeves into his hands. ”i am loki, of asgard, and you will go back to wherever you have come from, or face the consequences.”
surprise!!!it was then that they informed him that he had “failed them too many times.” whatever that meant, and a sigh huffed from his lips, knowing that he’d have to get his hands dirty his time. so be it. daggers clutched harshly in his hands, loki’s lips pulled back from his teeth, and with a roar he flung himself into the hoards of chitauri soldiers. for a while, there was only the sound of the roars of the chitauri, loki echoing them with his own, his daggers flying as he sank them into their flesh, mowing them down as they came, one after the other, until there weren’t any left standing. except—a shout, diminishing into whimpers and little cries, and loki whirled, chest heaving with haggard, harsh breaths, to see what he had been too distracted to see. a chitauri soldier had a young man with a mop of dark hair cornered, all snarls and bared teeth as it raised an sword to strike—
surprise!!!beofre loki’s feet flew into action, skidding to put himself in between the boy and the chitauri soldier, shouting, ”get behind me. i’ll protect you.” raising his daggers in front of him, meeting the sword with a sharp, ringing clang. loki snarled, teeth bared, and the chitauri responded with a snarling growl, before loki moved one of the daggers, driving it into its skin, but not before the sword smashed into his stomach. loki threw the sword aside, replacing his daggers back into his sleeves, before he clutched at his stomach as the soldier fell, joining the others, but he moved his attention from his steadily bleeding, wounded stomach to the young man. ”are you alright?”

xxxxhis feet drummed against the ground. a fleeting sensation of regret, and annihilation had bubbled at ellis's stomach. midst taking a heavy-duty nap in the middle of the afternoon, he was soon awoken by jane shaking him like crazy. telling him that they needed to get to new york city as fast as they could. of course he obliged, with no context behind the situation either. she had pulled up in her little van, and shoved a somewhat barely sticking-together looking camera in his tiny hands. "now look at this ellis! i mean... we need to get closer." the woman's voice showed pride, and eagerness to the condition- something ellis could not relate to.
xxxx"jane, shouldn't we be thinking about this... i mean? isn't this the chitauri's we're talking about here? they could swallow you whole!" of course his words were falling to deaf ears as the woman adjusted her bag, and grabbed his hand to draw him closer to the gruesome imagery. ellis's heart fell. he knew he couldn't just ditch jane for her death, selvig would murder him. he would just end up dying either way.
xxxx"okay, so now... just position the camera like this, and make sure that this-" she pointed to something that was duct taped against the camera lens, and prodded it upwards. "this is up so we get heatwaves, and all should be good." ellis wasn't sure how the flimsy camera was supposed to pick up heatwaves, but whatever jane wanted to believe in... whatever she wanted to tell herself.
xxxxrummaging a hand back through his dark curls, and adjusting his foggy glasses; he shakily walked through the dead, and hopeless streets of new york city. "this is just sick jane... i don't want to see this stuff. i'm not ready for... uhh, blood." glancing down to see the crimson liquid, he softly gagged as he withdrew his head back, and it suddenly got quiet. appeasing his eyes to be open, he glanced over to where jane should've been standing, but she was gone. his eyes had widen, and his heart had jolted. "jane? j-jane! god, where are you? i don't look at you for a millisecond, and you're gone!" his nervous rambling must've taken interest for a chitauri solider who standoffishly stood nearby. the creature's neck had craned downwards, and its beastly hands took its large sword to threaten ellis.
xxxxthe poor boy dropped the camera in fear, and tried dead bolting to a corner for safety; although, it looked as if he got no coverage at all, and was standing in a crystal clear opening for the chitauri to attack. a momentary perception of withdrawals of going back home had hit him like a tsunami, and he had prepared for the worst- he instead heard the booming sound of someone telling him to get behind him.
xxxxmaking no hesitation with his actions, he practically scrambled to get behind the man who was offering protection, and watched as the chitauri got struck down only for the man to get stabbed in the stomach. ellis placed his hands over his mouth as if thinking the man was to die, but he instead pulled the sword out and turned towards him, asking if he was alright.
xxxxthis wasn't what ellis was expecting. didn't his savior just get stabbed in the stomach? "y-yeah, i'm good, but... your stomach? shouldn't you be worried about your stomach?" he wanted to go on about how the stomach was an essential part of the body, and if this man was flinging himself about to be a secret vigilante, then he needed to be at least somewhat healed.
xxxx"sorry, let me-" the male shuffled himself to stand on his feet so he didn't look like a coward of some sort- even though he probably already looked like one beforehand. "i could... repay you back for saving my life? um, your stomach. i could..." he knew it sounded creepy, and the man in front of him probably took him to be a weird, and foolish human being. "or not, i could repay you somehow else?" his hand rose to feel for his glasses, a careful way of calming his striking nerves.

surprise!!!for a moment, loki stood, blinking to make sure that he had heard the mortal right. he was concerned about him? huh. that was a first.
surprise!!!”i’m fine.” loki mumbled, glancing down and grimacing at the crimson liquid that stained his fingers. ”it’s nothing. i heal exceptionally fast.” he glanced at the boy again, who, he realized somewhat foolishly, probably had no idea what in asgard he was talking about. ”anyway, no repayment is needed. are you sure you’re okay, though? you look kind of pale.”
surprise!!!he glanced around them, nose wrinkling at the bodies of the slain chitauri. they got what they were asking for, however. attempting to take over midgard was his thing, and he wasn’t about to bested by a few nutheaded soldiers looking to finish what he’d started. he turned back to him after a moment, raising a brow. ”was someone with you?”
surprise!!!”ellis!” a woman’s shout, and loki stiffened, recognizing almost immediately the voice of thor’s former mortal interest, jane, who also had happened to slap him a long while back. she was slipping over the blood of the chitauri, but eventually, she reached them, and placed a hand on the boy’s—who’s name, loki now knew, was ellis—arm, apparently out of breath.
surprise!!!”jane.” loki greeted coolly, lips barely moving as he spoke.
surprise!!!”loki.” jane responded, before she turned to ellis. ”are you alright? are you hurt?”

xxxxwhen the man had finally responded, ellis's features had contorted back into a beumused stare. heal fast? what was he talking about? what kind of genetics did this man have? "r-right, of course." he nodded with a small head dip before glancing about the wreckage. "hm, me? i'm fine. just a major head rush. i wasn't... expecting to get attacked." he murmured sheepishly as one of his hands moved up to scratch at his neck. it wasn't until then, the pang of desperation had clawed at his throat like a moth to a light fixture. where was jane? pushing his glasses up, his eyes darted between all the dead bodies before stopping on the stranger of authority in front of him. "yes, i was with som-" unable to finish his sentence, there was a yelp of his name, and his head was quick to following where it came from.
xxxxhis heart stilled for a passing moment as he saw jane slip her way over towards him. sighing in absolute relief, he intently watched as the woman placed one of her hands on his arm whilst panting from her heavy work. flicking his irises about her features, he made sure that she wasn't incredibly hurt before glancing over towards the stranger. his name was loki? that sounded familiar. his eyes dipped back towards jane who asked if he was alright. "yeah, i'm good! i might've scraped myself a little bit, but nothing an icepack won't fix." he cooed smoothly before looking loki over, again. he couldn't help it. why did he sound so familiar? it might've been jane who told him about loki. somewhere between explaining thor, her love interest, that the adoptive brother slipped into the vague story somewhere. he just... might've zoned out. not to mention, wasn't he the one who tried ruling over earth not too long ago?
xxxx"are you... positive you don't want me to help you? it wouldn't take long if you're on some sort of... schedule." he managed to ask, yet again. now hoping that the man would open up, and say yes.

surprise!!!the asgardian prince had to admit, the mortal was starting to grow on him. it was his innocence, probably. there weren’t that many beings like that nowadays, especially ones that could thaw someone like loki. not that he was—right? well, he wouldn’t linger upon it, as it was definitely not the place to be doing so.
surprise!!!”not many people are, it seems. i’m suprised, frankly, after last time.” loki speaks, a little dryly, a low chuckle in his throat at his bemused expression. his expression sours a bit at jane’s appearance, but only for a moment as he arranges his features into indifference.
surprise!!!he watched them for a moment, lips pulling into a frown at the accusing glance jane spares him. then again, he really shouldn’t be suprised that she should only assume it was him who caused the attack—it had been his fault, last time, and it had cost lives.
surprise!!!he looked to ellis again, as he asked once again. loki’s expression became amused at his attempts—it was flattering, really. ”if you insist, then there’s not much i can do, is there?” jane looked as if she wanted to protest, which really rubbed loki the wrong way, her mouth opening to speak but then after a moment, she closed it. though, her expression clearly said, hurt him in any way and i’ll kill you.

xxxxcarefully he flitted his fingers across jane's forearm as if to comfort her. he had noticed the dirty glares that were spared in loki's direction, and he couldn't figure out why, or what was taken into consideration that drew into conclusion that she disliked him so much. was it from the fact that he tried ruling over earth, again? or perhaps it had something to do with thor? his mind ran dry as he didn't bug with the thought any longer, and instead chipperly smiled to loki finally accepting his repayment.
xxxx"i suppose not... jane, should we go now? i don't like being out here." he almost sounded like a child wishing to go back home from a 'scary' rollercoaster at an amusement park. his face fell for a quick second before he picked it back up. "oh! and sorry about your camera. i might've.. sorta.. kinda dropped it when i ran to hide? it wouldn't have been good footage anyways. i was screaming like a lunatic." he murmured, his head distilling to tilt to the side as he looked about for her van.
xxxxjust where exactly did she park it? and did it even bother surviving the wreckage that fled about this city? ellis knew she would be distraught to know that her vehicle got smashed by a fellow chitauri, but that's what she got when she wished to flee into a fighting scene that wasn't meant for either of them.

surprise!!!for a moment, loki found himself wishing for home, for asgard. for frigga, the one he had loved most of all—his mother. the one who had taught loki all that he knew. she had never forsaken him, had never forgotten him. he knew she’d like ellis, too—he’s kind and selfless. and he’d like it there, too, the city of gold. looking at him now, comforting jane, concerned about everyone but himself, what state he was in, loki knew he’d have to take him there, sometime. but it wasn’t as it had been—frigga was dead, and he was marked a traitor.
surprise!!!seeing the way jane looked at him, however, he knew he’d always be laufey’s son to her, and a murderer who had tried to take over earth and kill his adoptive brother. he couldn’t blame her, really. it was all true, what she thought of him.
surprise!!!he broke out of his wistful thought process once ellis had spoken, green eyes flicking from the boy to the woman, and then back to ellis once more. it was like a pull towards him, for whatever reason. one that he was having an incredibly difficult time trying to break free from. he felt a protective urge rush through him—ellis was still trembling. ”yeah.. yeah.” jane spoke, glancing around at the mas sof bodies and wrinkling her nose slightly. ”thats alright, ellis. i-uh, parked it around that building.” she mumbled, turning and starting to walk in that direction. loki glanced at ellis once she was a little ways ahead, and spoke in a soft tone. ”i’m sorry you had to go through that.”
