he rolled his eyes and smiled gently. “you’re a great girlfriend. we need to get closer to each other though. yknow go on more dates, hang out more, stuff like that.” he told her and said goodbye to autumn.

[Berenice.]

“Yeah I know that. But you cancelled three times this week and now you’ve broken your ankle. We can’t walk into a nice restaurant with you on crutches with a cast that says ‘Cole is a clown’ on it.” Saffron laughed, soon pulling up at school.

”everything is my fault, i know. you can call me a failure but you know what? i love you. and i don’t want to fail you anymore so im not saying no to anything you say until i don’t fail you again.” he told her.

[Berenice.]

“That’s a bit extreme, even for you. You aren’t a failure. Just clumsy. Now come on. I still have to ask whether I can drive you back home.” Saffron walked into school, making sure to stay close to Cole so he didn’t get knocked.

”you know, that was the first time i said i love you.” he said and started down the hallway. he went to his teacher and started talking with him about the online classes and such. he than stayed for the rest of the class.

[Berenice.]

“I know. I just didn’t want to say it back in a nasty school hallway. It’s not exactly the most romantic place.” Saffron laughed, then sat down in class and got on with her work, occasionally getting distracted and messing around because she had to pass the time somehow.

after class, a lot of people were asking about his ankle. he felt uncomfortable so he quickly went out to the car, not wanting to talk. he leaned back in his seat and ignored all the calls he got. this all was stressing him out. he wasn’t used to all the sudden attention.

[Berenice.]

When class ended, Saffron looked everywhere for Cole but she couldn’t find him. Of course she started to panic, so she quickly called him, but he didn’t answer considering he was ignoring his calls. Saff rolled her eyes and quickly walked out to the car to see if he had got an Uber home, but instead found that he was hiding in the car. “When I call you I expect you to answer.” Saff said after almost angrily opening the door and standing there with her arms crossed.

”sorry. i needed a break from everyone crowding around me. i threw my phone in the backseat because everyone was texting me after i left and now my phone is stuck back there because my stupid ankle prevents me from doing half the things i usually do.” he told her and sighed.

[Berenice.]

Saffron huffed and looked at his phone in the backseat. “Didn’t I tell you to go straight home after your meeting? Oh but of course you didn’t listen. I don’t just tell you these things for no reason, Cole. I’ll just stop looking out for you and we can see where that ends you.” Saff sat in the car and held her hand out. “Pass me the keys. I’ll drive you home. But I’m already late for my next class so you owe me big time.”
