Hiccup and the gang have come a long way from berk, to a new place to call home.
The Edge as it's commonly referred to,
is a small outpost on the edge of a lush island filled with dragon inhabitants.
It's perfect, and day to day life couldn't be better.
well most of day to day life anyway..

astrid let the light stream in through cracks in the roof before she finally rose from her bed. Despite the close to sleepless night which had ended in her not rising early and patrolling the island for threats. Stormfly curled up at the foot squawked a slight protest that ended in astrid letting out a light chuckle and patting the nadder's nose a smile lighting the warriors face.

Cleaning herself up she finally exited her hut and let the sun warm her. Astrid let out a sigh of relief as the sunshine hit her skin and she stretched her arms wide rolling her shoulders and stretching. She listened to the birds for a moment, their unique calls causing the island to never be silent. Along with the occasional terrible terror squawk.

astrid went to the stables with stormfly trailing behind and opened up stormfly's enclosure. "In you go girl. I'll be back soon and if your good i might bring some chicken." astrid said smiling and closing the enclosure door behind the nadder. Stormfly let out a squawk and astrid shook her head softly walking out of the stables and heading to the clubhouse.

Hiccup stood over the table in the middle, a puzzled look on his face. He was looking at a scroll, sighing. The boy sighed as he scribbled something in the corner, still quite focused. In-fact, he hadn't even noticed Astrid come in, a sign that he may have been too focused, perhaps?

Toothless nudged Hiccup, as he turned to Toothless for a second, with a rather tired look. Hiccup shook his head at Toothless before, for once, Hiccup actually spoke up, having been focused on said scroll earlier.

"Toothless, I'm busy."

Hiccup sighed, looking back at the scroll, as Toothless nudged him again. The dragon made a little purr-like noise, nodding his head towards Astrid. Hiccup was still focused on the scroll, gently pushed Toothless away. He was really focused on that scroll, wasn't he?

upon walking into the clubhouse astrid paused to look around, hiccup was busying himself with a scroll, the twins were bickering in the corner their voices rising with each retort and Fishlegs and Snotlout were no where to be seen.

Astrid looked back at hiccup as toothless attempted to get his attention, only for toothless to be swatted away absentmindedly. Astrid chuckled softly and approached toothless gently rubbing his nose before laying her hand on hiccup's shoulder, peering over his arm to see what scroll he was so enveloped in.
Scanning the scroll quietly astrid's eyebrows furrowed in frustration. The lettering was too small, astrid couldn't read anything. "Hey hiccup, what're you so enveloped in reading?" astrid asked looking at hiccup with a small teasing smile.

Hiccup sighed, turning to Astrid with a look that definitely showed he didn't get much sleep. It was most likely from trying to do stuff with the scroll, but why? He rubbed his eyes, before finally answering her question.

"Honestly, that's what I'm trying to figure out. I can't read it."

Hiccup turned back to the scroll, grabbing it and rolling it up. He probably needed sleep, and it was bit obvious, but he was more focused on what was at hand. He needed to find out what the scroll said, it could help them. The Dragon Eye, the Edge, and other things this could impact.

astrid frowned upon seeing hiccup's desperately tired face. "why don't you go rest for a bit, and i'll try and decipher the scroll for a while? you look like you need sleep maybe then if i haven't deciphered it by the time you awaken you'll be in better shape to try and read the scroll." she suggested with concern looking at hiccup. Astrid reached for the rolled up scroll and gently took it from his hands holding it firmly in case he would make a grab for it. This scroll was weighing down on hiccup, but why? why was he so enveloped in this scroll? What did he so desperately need to find out? Sure, yes the dragoneye was important but so was his health. The dragoneye and the Edge could wait for Hiccup to be feeling better. Besides, Astrid could take over for a bit if Hiccup needed it. She wouldn't mind doing some extra things here and there if it helped hiccup.

Hiccup shook his head, sighing again. He can't! He needed to decipher it, if it was coded, that means it's something important, doesn't it?! Hiccup attempted to grab the scroll, although he knew it was useless. He stopped himself after he tried, another sigh. Toothless went up to them, nudging Hiccup towards the door a little. Maybe he had picked up on the fact that Hiccup needed sleep, despite the fact him refusing to. The dragon growled a little at his trainer, definitely implying that Toothless seemed a little worried. Night furies were very smart dragons, were they not? Hiccup shook his head for the millionth time, looking at Toothless, brushing the dragon's head. Both Astrid and Toothless were trying to get him to sleep, but what about the scroll?

astrid watched as hiccup bumbled around tiredly and sighed. She was getting impatient, he needed rest and he knew it. These things could wait. "hiccup. go. to. bed." astrid huffed pinching the bridge of her nose with her right hand and clenching the scroll with her left. When she looked up again she looked at toothless, rather desperately. She took a few breaths to insure she stayed calm, which wasn't helping with the twin's arguing in the corner.

She finally swung around and glared at the two thorston twins. "Will you two Stop that! Or at least go argue somewhere else!" astrid said clenching her jaw. The twins, surprised at her outburst scrambled over each other and were out the door in seconds. Honestly, she was tired.

She hadn't gotten much sleep these past few nights, thinking about the future and what the edge would mean for the rest of the crew. At least she hid it well or at least, thought she hid it well.

A sigh escaped quietly from Hiccup's lips as he rubbed the bridge of his nose gently, a stressed expression present in his features. The twins' arguing had most likely been bothering him the entire time they bickered, only adding to his aggravation from the scroll, among other things. The boy shook his head, thinking over the prospect of sleep, trying to decide if he should really give up on the scroll for now. It was a partially hard choice, since he knew he needed to sleep, and both Astrid and Toothless were trying to convince him. But, to be fair, this scroll could be provide much needed information for them, leaving Hiccup with a choice. Toothless nudged Hiccup barely, a slight purr, implying what he was trying to tell Hiccup. The dragon cared for his trainer, and right now, he was refusing to do what he needed to do. He tilted his head at him, before looking at Astrid, an actual expression clear in his look. The dragon turned back to Hiccup, pushing him towards the door with a look that said Hiccup needed to sleep. Hiccup rubbed his eyes just barely, another definite sign he was tired. All of the signs honestly pointed to the notion that Hiccup hadn't gotten very little sleep, he had gotten no sleep whatsoever. And, it was all because of one scroll he didn't seem to be able to decipher. He really could get far too focused on something, and it was taking it's toll.

watching hiccup be gently pushed out the door by toothless, astrid's gaze softened and she unclenched her jaw. She nodded satisfied that hiccup was off to rest and set the scroll on the table hiccup had been looming over. She unrolled it gently spreading it out on the table and inspecting it closely. She took a step back from the table, her gaze still on the scroll, her hands on her hips. Her lips pursed she scrunched her nose and sighed. What was so important about this silly little scroll? She looked at the entrance to the clubhouse which was now empty as toothless and hiccup had left the clubhouse entirely. Hopefully, hiccup wouldn't be back any time soon. Astrid rubbed her hands together and brushed a piece of hair out of her face gently. Turning back to the scroll she settled with her hands placed on the table her head over the map scrutinizing every inch of it, confusion blotting her face. What was so important about this scroll that hiccup was loosing sleep over it? Of course, hiccup was known to stay up late at night analyzing things especially when it came to the dragoneye but what on earth was so important about this almost illegible scroll?
