He smiled a bit more at her confusion. "There's a shelter down by the river. They let me come and pet the dogs there."

[Berenice.]

Megan perked up at the idea. “That’s a great idea! Let’s go!” She said as she rushed downstairs and out her shoes on. “Hurry up! We need to get there as soon as possible so we can spend as much time there was we can!”

Storm laughed a bit. He grinned at her once they were downstairs and he put his shoes on.

[Berenice.]

“I don’t know how I’ve never been there already. Are you well known there or something? You made it sound like you go there often.” Megan questioned as she walked out the door, closing it once they were both outside.

"I do," he said, feeling a bit happier when he had laughed for the first time in a while. He led her down the road, heading for the shelter. "I volunteer there sometimes. Not just with the dogs, though, with the cats and small animals also."

[Berenice.]

“I don’t think cats like me. I always get scratched or hissed at.” Meg laughed. “Do they have hamsters? Do you think I could look after a hamster? Maybe not. I don’t have much responsibility.”

He shrugged. He didn't really know her well enough to judge that. They walked up to the shelter and went inside.

[Berenice.]

“We have to see the dogs first!” Meg exclaimed, already running into the kennels. “I want all of them! Why did you bring me here? Now all I want are all of these dogs!” She said as she looked at them through the kennels.

Storm laughed again. He took the keys from the counter after talking to the lady at the front desk. He caught up to Megan, and explained to her that the dogs on this side of the door were socialized and could be petted, but the dogs in the other room weren't good with people. "We can take a dog out and bring it to the play room," he said. "Just one at a time, though," he told her, watching her walk around the kennels.

[Berenice.]

“All of them. We need to play with all of them. We can’t just play with one and leave all of the others out.” Meg laughed, finding the cutest Labrador she had ever seen. “Aw I want to keep it. This is torture.”
