"I used to work with my mom. She worked at the senior center on the mountain. It's actually fun, and the people there are really nice," he said, smiling at her. "I'm going to go back to working there, but not for a while."

[Berenice.]

“That sounds like fun. But I’m not a huge fan of seniors. Pretty much all the old people I’ve met are grumpy. I would be grumpy if I was old and wrinkly too, but that’s not the point. My mom wants me to be a doctor like her, but that’s not gonna happen! What’s your dream job? Oh and you might want to check on the soup.” She then said and pointed to the stove.

Storm whacked his forehead. "I completely forgot about it. Thanks," he said, sliding off the counter. He checked the soup and then turned off the stove. "Most of the seniors there are friendly and sweet," he told her. "Only a few are grumpy." He thought about it as he got out bowls. "I don't know. I can only picture myself working at the senior center. I don't really have a dream job. I thought I would be working with my mother, so I never really thought about doing anything else." He poured the some of the soup into two bowls and let it cool on the counter. "What about you? What do you want to do, if it isn't being a doctor like your mom."

[Berenice.]

Megan nodded as she listened, sliding off the counter and looking at the soup which looked really good. “I don’t have a clue what my dream job is. I just don’t like the idea of working.” Meg laughed, waiting for the soup to cool. “It’s not like I do anything when I’m not at school. Only go to a few parties every now and again. I would have parties here if I could, but I was banned from doing that when the house got absolutely wrecked. You should’ve seen my moms face.”

Storm got out spoons from the drawer while he listened to her. He set the bowls and utensils on the table and sat down in one of the chairs. He took a spoon and stirred the soup to cool it down faster.
The front door banged open and Mrs. Addington rushed inside. "Storm! There you are. I just got the call from the school saying that you had left....apparently they had tried to reach me for hours, but I was performing an operation.. Are you alright? You're not hurt, are you?" she asked, worried. She had taken all of the sharp objects from Megan's bathroom, but he could've easily grabbed something from somewhere else. Storm shook his head when she asked if he was hurt. "Okay," she said, noticing his silence. "We can talk later." She glanced at the stove and then the bowls of soup. "You made soup?" He nodded, perking up a bit when he heard the word 'soup'. "Don't forget to take your supplements," she reminded him. "I don't want you to become malnourished." He made a face when she mentioned the supplements, but got up and took the pills out of the bottle. He crushed them with his spoon and mixed it in his bowl of soup. He didn't take it any other way. He didn't like taking medication, whether it was something like the supplements or his anti-depressants, so he put it in his food so he didn't have to taste it and could forget that it was there.

Megan rolled her eyes dramatically as her mom rushed in. “I’m here too. Its not like I was in school either.” Meg mumbled quietly and ate her soup. “You can leave now mom. I’m sure he is capable of taking care of himself.” She told her mom with a pretty annoyed tone to her voice. ”So annoying.” Megan grumbled quietly, but still loud enough for her mom to hear.

"I'm just making sure he didn't---" she cut herself off. She reminded herself that Megan didn't need to know that about Storm. "Alright. I'm going to take a shower," she said, going upstairs. She hadn't changed out of her scrubs while she was rushing to get here, and she wanted to get out of it.

Storm ducked his head down a bit, his shoulders hunching. He wasn't sure if Megan had connected the dots, or if she had already guessed. It wasn't something he wanted her to know, not if it changed the way she thought about him.

Megan watched her mom walk away, then she got up and washed her bowl without saying much else. She didn’t want to bring it up. She obviously knew what they were trying to hide from her, but bringing it up probably wasn’t a good idea. “The most annoying mom ever. You know, I might move out quicker than I thought just to get away from her.” Meg said, once again slightly irritated not only at the fact that her mom had pretty much just ignored her, but the fact that her mom was now hiding things from her.

"Did you like the soup?" he asked her, wanting to change the subject. He got up and washed his bowl, and then put both of theirs away.

[Berenice.]

“Yeah, Thanks. It was nice. Right, promise me that tomorrow you won’t ditch school again. I’m not having a re run of today. Anyway, anything in particular you want to do tomorrow after school?” She then asked as she walked out the kitchen and upstairs with her school bag to get any school work done for tomorrow so she didn’t get any more detentions.
