“i wouldn’t be too sure, river.” she said quietly. “it was the worst crash they’ve seen in years. i wouldn’t be surprised if they were dead.” marcella said those words quickly, being quiet. the car stopped and she got out, running to meet karmen by the door. “hurry.” marcella told her, running inside and scooping up her younger sister.

river remained quiet, just gently rubbing her knee. as they arrived, he pocketed his keys, following after marcella and giving karmen an awkward nod in greeting. he entered the house, letting his eyes scan around and take everything in.

marci heard a cry from the nursery. “here, you take lauren, i’ll go feed the baby.” she said frantically, handing the toddler to river. running into the nursery she put on a small smile. “hey, eric.” she said, picking the infant up, then coming back into the room, which was connected to the kitchen, and grabbing a bottle to heat.

river blinked as there was suddenly a child in his arms. he adjusted the young girl so she would be more comfortable, raising a brow. "howdy." he greeted, turning his head to watch marcella return with an infant

“hewwo!” the child giggled. “she isn’t good with her l’s yet.” marci grinned. “lauren, this is river.” marci said, coming over and sitting, the bottle to the infant’s mouth. “who are you?” she heard, seeing mason walk in.

river grinned down at the adorable grin. "you're very pretty." he complimented the young girl, turning his head as another child appeared. he held his hand out, hiding a grin. "im river. who are you?"

“aw, tank you!” lauren smiled. “or her h’s” marci pointed out. “i’m mason. i’m five.” mason said, shaking river’s hand.

river winked to lauren, brows raising as mason spoke, shaking his small hand. "five?wow. what's your workout routine?" he joked with the young boy.

“workouts are for chumps!” mason giggled. marci was glad river got along with the kids. lauren wedged herself away from river, going to play dolls. “here, hold eric, make sure you support his neck. he’s starting to drift off, i’m getting his folding crib.” she said, placing the small baby in his arms.
