river chuckled softly, kissing her cheek. he snuggled into the girl, sighing in contentment and closing his eyes. enjoying the warmth and affection.

marci ran her fingers through his hair, grinning. she smiled, leaning her head next to his.

river remained quiet, his fingers gently running up and down marcella's back. "thank you." he muttered oh so quietly, not really one for sentiment.

“for what?” she asked, running her fingers through his hair, before hearing a ‘ding!’ from her phone. she leaped up, grabbing her phone, reading the message. “oh god…” she murmured, grabbing her purse and stampeding down the stairs.

river opened his mouth to speak, closing it however as she rushed to read her phone before heading downstairs rather quickly. he frowned, rising to his feet and following the girl downstairs. "marcella, what's wrong?" he questioned with a tilt of his head.

“i have to go, karmen texted me. it’s an emergency.” she said briefly, shuffling her feet. “and it’s real... this is actually happening.” she muttered, mainly to herself.

river shook his head in confusion. "what's happening, princess?" he questioned with furrowed brows, placing his hands on her shoulders as he tried to figure out what the hell was going on.

”Karmen’s going to the hospital, finding out if my parents are okay. i can’t believe she didn’t text me sooner.” marci answered, her voice higher-pitched, trying to keep her composure.

river kissed her forehead. "calm down, love. do you need me to go to your house and watch the kids?" he questioned gently, knowing a hospital wasn't a great environment for a bunch of young children. he grabbed a nearby hoodie, tugging it on and getting ready anyways.

“that would be great.” she smiled. “but i should come too- because hospitals scare me.” marci added. “i can tell you what happened on the way.”
