river put the mask on, immediately following the doctors. he nodded sadly as the doctor spoke of the fact that they may not even be able to have anymore kids after this.
“so, in theory, marcella shouldn’t have had kids after aurelia, therefore there are complications. i don’t know if she told you.” pme doctor said, pushing a door open, handing river rubber gloves.
river clenched his jaw a bit. "she didn't." he spoke curtly, a slight surge of anger going through him. she knew there could be complications, and hid it from him? let him get excited about a baby that would most likely die soon? he took the gloves with a quiet thank you, slipping them over his hands.
the doctor placed a hand on the small child, who opened his eyes and started wailing. there was nothing wrong with the child on the outside it seemed. “it is most likely an internal condition.” he noted, silencing the child as he took his hand away.
river stared down at their son, a sad expression on his face. "will you know? when..when he starts deteriorating? or will it just..happen?" he questioned in a sad whisper, his voice cracking as he stared down at his son who may not even make it through the day.
“we are assuming it will just happen. at this point, i would go and comfort marcella.” the doctor said quietly. “but i would sugarcoat things if you tell her about him.” he sighed. “we need to run more tests.”
river gave a curt nod, removing the gloves. he didn't even want to talk to marcella right now, but he knew she was upset too. he exited the room and headed back to marcella's, quietly entering and taking a seat in the chair.
marcella looked up at him from a book. she knew he was in a bad mood, and didn’t want to disturb him. she looked back at her book, wiping her tearstained cheek. “how was it?” she finally mustered up the courage to ask.
river tilted his head back, closing his eyes. he remained silent until marcella spoke, opening his eyes and looking to her with a blank expression. "they still have to do tests on him to see." he murmured, taking some of the doctor's advice on sugarcoating.
marcella sighed, looking to him. “it wasn’t good. tell me what happened.” she said, hurt in her eyes, knowing he was sugarcoating everything. “if not, i will find out myself.”
