river was lounging in his bed, about to doze off in a nap when marcella shouted. he jolted up, glancing to her and widening his eyes before sliding out of the bed, quickly tugging a shirt on and grabbing the hospital bag. "alrighty, let's go have baby number three."

marcella ran to the car, texting michelle. they reached the hospital and she walked in. a few hours later, a baby boy was born. marcella shook as he was rushed off. “is something wrong with him?!” she called

river held her hand through the whole process, but his brows furrowed as they immediately rushed their son away, his heartbeat increasing. "what happened? what's going on?" he questioned, but the doctors were talking amongst themselves.

marcella stood up, walking towards the doctor. “what’s wring with our son?!” she screamed at them. they ignored her, continuing to talk. she heard words that could mean something terrible. she sat down shakily, crying into the hard hospital bed.

worry coursed through his heart, but he forced himself to focus on marcella, wrapping his arms around the girl and kissing the top of her head, rubbing her back gently. only being able to hope that their son was okay.

the doctors eventually called river over, trying to explain what was going on to him. “your son is extremely sick, and he may have a condition we aren’t sure about.” they told him in a hushed tone. “we don’t know if he’ll live past today, or the next three months, we aren’t sure.”

river immediately made his way over, listening to their words. his heart dropped, a shaky breath escaping him. "where is he now?" river demanded, his fists clenched. "why? why is he sick?" he practically growled out, anger and hurt coursing through his veins. why did this have to happen to their baby?

the doctors handed river a mask to put around his mouth and led him down a hall. “we don’t know why he’s sick. we do know that it was going to be difficult for mrs. walker to conceive after the crash and aurelia, they took quite a toll.”
