kat smiled warmly. "it's gonna go great!" she exclaimed happily, looking to river. "tryouts are today too, right?" she questioned, and he nodded his head in response.

“i think it’ll go good, river.” she said, smiling. the waiter came with the food, and Marci happily dug into a small piece.
“i’m not guaranteed captain though.”

river grabbed a few slices, shrugging. "you'll get it." he spoke to marcella, kat nodding in agreement. "you're a powerhouse girl." kat grinned. "ive watched you swim. it's in the bag." she waved a dismissive hand.

marci blushed, before stiffening. “damn. speak of the devil. here’s the other girl.” she said crossly. “Katie Goodwin. transfer. strong swimmer, butcan only last 30 seconds underwater.”

kat listened to marcella, shaking her head and wagging her finger. "nuh uh. you're gonna get it, and that's final." she declared teasingly. river nodded in agreement, kissing her temple. "you got this, babygirl." he winked playfully. kat made a gagging noise before giggling. "does she have a brother?" she joked.

“hey, i thought i said no to babygirl.” she laughed. “yes, actually, she does. he’s in river’s grade. he’s on the basketball team.”

kat wiggled her eyebrows. "ooh lala." she joked, finishing up her slices. "cheerleading starts soon. maybe i should try out so im not all lonely." she murmured. river smirked to marcella. "i have to switch it up now and then." he replied,
glancing at kat and shrugging.

“yeah! you’re like, hella flexible, kat.” she smiled. “oh, okay.” she smiled at river. “i still need to give you a nickname.” she smirked.

kat grinned a bit sheepishly, murmuring her thanks. river shook his head at marcella. "oh handsome one, hot dude, love of your life... the list goes on, really." he joked with a smirk.

“are you saying you love me?” she teased. “aw, damn, we’re running late for class.” she muttered, checking her phone. she took another bill out of her wallet and placed it on the table for tip.
