Piper pursed her lips and looked around the airports options. There were a lot of options she recognized from the states, Subway, McDonalds, a few other chains. "How about a sandwich? Something familiar." She answered, pointing a thin finger in the restaurants direction. They should wait until at a hotel or private hostel before talking about their mission. The curiosity was getting to her, though. Was this this supposed to be magical, valuable, sacred? Why had they not told them anything about it?

"alright. sandwiches it is." jon reached into the back of his pocket to grab his wallet and made his way over to the food court. he bought his share of food and another for piper. he offered her the wrapped sandwich. "this one's on me," he said with a wink. "just so we can start on good terms with one another."

While Jon went to go collect food, Piper was left without room to protest. Her skepticism was slowly diminishing, he seemed like a genuine person. "Thanks -" She responded coolly, taking her sandwich and peeling back the paper. "Where would you like to stay tonight?" She asked before biting into her meal. She and her usual partner generally chose to stay in a hotel one night and strategize, then camp out while looking for whatever the job entailed. But in this case they didn't really know what the job entailed, so they would have to do some field research before really beginning.

jon took a bite of his sandwich, thinking for a moment. "well, i'm sure there's some local hotels around we can stay in for the night," he said after a polite swallow. "guess we'll just have to look around, but i'm sure there's one not too far from here." the man paused to pull out his phone, thumb scrolling over the screen until he found the locations of some nearby hotels. he took another bite and chewed thoughtfully. "there's meriton sweets, which is only a few blocks down."

Piper had made significant progress on her sandwich while she listened to Jon talk. "That sounds good." She replied after his suggestion. A hotel was probably the best choice - good accommodations to refresh, privacy to discuss their job, and a comfortable bed. "My partner and I - well, my usual partner and I - generally try not to leave a trail. After making a plan we try and find alternative arrangements, like backpacking in the wilderness or hostels. How do you feel about that kind of thing? " It was weird trying to meet someone for the first time without having the option to not like them. Regardless of who this person was, she would have to work with him. Piper's soft brown eyes focused on his face while she took another bite from her sandwich.

jon coiled up his wrapper after finishing his sandwich and tossed it in the trash. he grabbed the luggage that he set down before eating and shot piper another glance. "i don't mind it at all. it's a pretty smart thing to do, actually," he replied, brushing a finger over his chin to wipe away any excess crumbs. his phone that he had left on one of the cafeteria tables started buzzing, and he picked it up. the muffled chatter on the other line sent jon a few nods, before cramming it back into his front pocket. "taxi's here. i'll tell 'em to go straight to meriton and we can talk more on the way."

Piper responded with a swift nod, and followed him out of the building, tossing her trash away as they went. Her bag hung from her shoulder down to her hips - it was a larger duffel bag, but not overly bulky to draw attention to herself. The main propagative while on these jobs was to be inconspicuous; blend into the local crowds, and learn. She placed her bag on the far right of the taxi's trunk, mindful to leave plenty of space for Jon's luggage, and climbed into the back seat. He seemed nice, and capable. But this was still new, and she was still uneasy. It was difficult trusting someone without knowing them, and it was hard to get to know someone while focusing on work.

jon piled his luggage into the trunk of the taxi and climbed in to the other side of the passenger seat, just beside piper. he gave his knee a few thoughtful taps while gazing out the moving scenery just beyond the window. he offered nothing but silence throughout the whole ride there. he didn't mean to be rude, but his mind was racing. he knew that he could trust piper, and even if he didn't, he had no choice. she was his partner now, and this trek would involve nothing but trust in the long-run. after a few minutes, the taxi came to a stop, and jon shouldered his way out and paid the driver, grabbing his luggage again. his heels rolled onto the pavement until they reached the entrance to the meriton hotel. it wasn't anything fancy, just a simple building that could've easily been mistaken for a motel. but it was just for the night.

Piper gathered her belongings from the trunk and thanked the driver before joining Jon on the walk to the hotel. This encounter had been quiet, but she wasn't really disheartened by it. The secrecy of this trip was apparently paramount. She remained quiet while they checked in and made their way to the hotel room. If nothing else it offered some relief from the heat outside. Piper tried thinking of some icebreaker questions that wouldn't sound too dumb... but they all sounded dumb. "Did we get a choice between a single or double?" She asked cooly.

jon paused at piper's question, juggling the room key against the bag of luggage on his shoulder. "double, i think." he inserted the key into the room, the metal clapping against the doorknob until it swung open. he unlatched it, securing it back into his pocket along with his phone. the room had a fairly wide space; there were two beds placed right next to one another with a couple of corresponding lamps hung on the wall, and a small kitchen directly across from it with another door at the very end, likely leading to a bathroom. jon slithered off his luggage and set it down on one of the beds, raising a hand to tame his golden curls. "guess i was right," he joked half-heartedly.
