Elena looked down. Maddox was so optimistic, though she knew he wasn’t feeling that way in the inside. She envied that. “I just don’t know what it is.” She sighed, staring at her thin legs, which were pretty long, and it made her look like a skeleton. Her legs wouldn’t change, and that was something she didn’t like. She was just born bony and skeleton-like. She and Hades were rather close, and she didn’t mind. She always thought he looked like Danny Zuko from Grease.

Maddox gave another, warmer smile. His amber eyes sparkled as he turned to face the sun. "You'll find it eventually, El. Now we better get going before something bigger than those hellhounds comes and tries to eat us," he shook his head at himself and began resuming down the alley. The end of the pathway could be seen and bright light illuminated the end of the tunnel. The son of Hecate stepped out into that light, the constant honking and sound of cars passing resuming now. When they were in the alley the sounds of the busy city were muffled.

Elena smiled, turning a light shade of pink, but didn’t say anything. She grabbed a bottle of sunscreen out of her bag, as she sunburned easily, just like a vampire; except she didn’t drink blood, and she wasn’t allergic to garlic. Finally stepping into the light, she tried catching up to Maddox, and reached him quickly.
