𝔼𝕔𝕙𝕠 "... the dreaded group project." the teacher called out laughingly, eyes filled with mirth and happiness. Echo's, on the other hand, were not. She froze. She just stared at Mrs. Cater in a silent panic. Math class was the one class in which she thought she was safe. Well, not safe per say, since she sucked at the subject, but there was no one to laugh at her when she failed! At least, not until now. Previously, she kept her head down, pretended she understood what was going on, and came in after school for private help. Not that it did much good. She just couldn't understand how to work her way through a proof or what the heck the difference was between side-angle-side and angle-angle-side. Now someone else was going to let the entire school know that she didn't know crap about math. She was totally screwed. "You may be happy to hear that the groups are not randomized, and I took into consideration who will work best with who." she heard Mrs. Cater say and felt a small amount of tension leave her body. At least Mrs. Cater knew her situation and wouldn't put her with anybody cruel. She patiently waited back as the class surged toward the front to check their partners, not wanting to get caught in the rush, and he looked at her. He seemed to be studying her, and she quickly looked down at her desk, trying desperately to keep a straight face. 'Nope. This isn't happening. It is not.' she prayed. If Ellery was her partner, her brain would turn to even worse mush, and she wouldn't even be able to speak. She'd make a mess of everything. She'd probably trip over something, break everything in sight, including him, and chronically injure him, sending him to the hospital and forever in his eyes becoming an obstacle to avoid. Of course, he definitely wasn't her partner. 'Definitely not.'
