Gabriel Waters;;
“Well not forever. But definitely not as often.” Gabe had plenty of questions he could ask, but he decided against it since most were a bit more personal.

Taking Alex’s hand, Gabe stood up, brushed off his jeans, and continued to chew his gum. He didn’t usually blow bubbles, or on the rare occasion he did, he tried to make them as large as possible.

“The smirking, too. Sometimes I’m convinced you’re stuck like that forever.” Following Alex side by side, Gabe contours to think, then brushed off his feeling, thinking he was just being weird. “Nothing. Just had a weird feeling.” Without context, that simple phrase could mean several different things.

Gabe wasn’t too sure what him and Alex would do once they got back to school. Wondering whether or not they’d continue to talk, or if things would go on as they used to, he was deep in his own thoughts before he found himself lagging behind a bit. Subconsciously speeding up his steps a bit, still pondering, he ran right into Alex. Snapping out of his thoughts, he stumbled back a bit, then apologised. “Sorry, was just thinking.” It was a pretty lame apology, but he wasn’t sure what else to say.

Alexander Carmen

Alexander shrugged, blowing another bubble. “Sometimes I can’t decide if it’s worse to just talk to people and be distracted or be stuck with myself,” he told Gabriel, shaking his head. “That’s also cliche. But I mean it.”

“It is. I alternate between a smirk and a blank stare,” Alex informed him, giving him the aforementioned emotionless look for effect. “Weird how?” he asked, glancing over at the other boy.

Alex swayed a little bit when Gabe ran into him, but didn’t react much other than turning his head and arching an eyebrow. “Thinking about what?” He laughed paused before asking, “how great I am and how much you like me now?”

He shook his head again, curly hair bouncing a bit. He turned to continue towards the bus, now more out in the open. He caught side of a group of jocks who were hanging near where the students were supposed to meet. He looked at Gabe and waggled his eyebrows a bit in mock concern.

"I'd rather talk to people and be distracted if anything. Me locked alone in a room for who knows how long is a scary thought. I'd probably go insane from boredom or my own thoughts."

Alex with a blank stare almost made him look... dead. "I don't know. guess I just thought something was gonna happen." It was a very unconvincing explanation, but Gabe had never been good with words. "But no and definitely not."

Gabe saw the bus, and observed a few jocks standing nearby already. He was and wasn't surprised they were already there. They probably ended up grabbing one of their partners to do the work for them while they did whatever jocks do in a zoo on a field trip. Sighing, Gabe simply pulled out his phone, taking a few glances up at the jocks and Alex every once in a while.

Noticing some movement ahead, he realized the jocks had noticed him and Alex. They stole a few looks, and Gabe checked the time at the top of his phone. 1:20. Still 10 minutes of this to bear, although it wasn't himself he was concerned about, it was Alex and his temper. A pair of the jocks started to walk over, and that was when Gabe started to wonder what the teacher had been doing this entire time.

Alexander Carmen

He nodded thoughtfully, walking in his slow and sauntering manner. "It's nice, though. Being alone. Most of the time going insane is more worth it than talking to people. Most of the time."

Alex laughed at his vague explanation. "Game, I hate to break it to you, but things are always happening. That's kind of the nature of existence," he criticized sarcastically, raising his eyebrows. "I think you're lying," Alexander decided, the smirk returning. "I think you're my biggest fan now."

His bored expression quickly replaced his snarky one, though, as the jocks approached. One of them casually said, "hi Donnie." Alex shook his head and responded, "is that the only name you guys can come up with today? Because I have to say, it's not your best. I mean, Donnie Darko was a genius. You're practically complimenting me."

"But this would be the kind of insane where it slowly sets in. Not just you snap one day, I think I'd rather die than go psycho from boredom."

Rolling his eyes at Alex's criticism, he replied "Think whatever you want, I'm just not very good at expressing my thoughts. Though if you think I'm your biggest fan, that proves you're more arrogant than I originally thought you were."

Watching the exchange between Alex and the jocks, he only rolled his eyes at Alex's taunt. He didn't say anything for fear of getting involved in their feuds. He saw the jock the called him Donnie glare a bit, and he couldn't tell what the other jock was feeling at that moment. Not really knowing what to do, Gabe went back to looking through his phone, mostly going through youtube to see what was interesting.

He'd never completely understood why the jocks were so hot tempered. You would think they'd have a bit more patience since they have all those sports they play, but apparently not.

“I’m bored all the time, anyway, and I’m not psycho,” Alexander suggested, raising his eyebrows and grinning.

Alex laughed. “To be fair, Gabriel, almost no one is a fan of me. Other than me, of course. It wouldn’t be that hard to be my biggest fan.”

One of the jocks said, “shut up, freak”, to which Alex simply shook his head in disgust and shouldered past the other one, budging him just a little bit despite his small stature. The jock grabbed him by his sweater and said, “you’d better watch yourself, Carmen”. Alex shook his head, never even flinching, and pushed the jock back, smoothed out his sweater, and stalked away toward the bus, clenching his fists so tightly they turned white. He didn’t want to get in a full out fight at the zoo; but it had been a while and it was certainly brewing.

“Ah, but if you’re a fan of yourself, wouldn’t that mean you’re your biggest fan?”

Narrowing his eyes at the word freak, Gabe couldn’t help but think Alex wasn’t a freak. He was a q-tip though, so depending on how you looked at it, Alex was at most weird. He could almost feel the tension in the air, and he was glad whenever Alex just back down. Feeling suddenly awkward sitting down with his phone while a possible fight was happening, he stood up. As he was about to brush himself off, his phone went flying out of his hand, straight at the group.

For the first time in his life, Gabe was glad to have such a bulky phone case. He didn’t hear any sort of crack when his phone landed, but he didn’t want to go and pick it up either, since it was right next to one of the jocks. Cheeks hot with embarrassment, Gabe has no clue what to do next.

Asking over extremely awkwardly, Gabe tried to pick up his phone so he could get on the bus as well, but one of the jocks picked it up, and Gabe automatically took a step away.

Alexander usually wasn’t one to help other people out. He had a general policy of only protecting himself and not enjoying other people. But when he heard the thud of Gabriel’s phone on the ground, he turned to watch the events unfold, and seeing the jock pick the phone up, he took a few steps back towards them. Alex figured the jock wasn’t going to hand it back that easily, and he found himself feeling like he would much rather get himself into trouble with the jocks than let it happen to Gabriel.

“Give it back,” he said, not wasting any time. He had his blank stare fixated on the jock, and even as small as he was, Alex was still intimidating. Not so much, of course, that the jock budged. Alex took a few more steps forward, much closer to them now.

“If you want your boyfriend’s phone, freak, you’re gonna have to-“. Alex cut the other boy off, swiftly grabbing one of his arms and kneeing him in the crotch, grabbing Gabe’s phone from his hand when the jock weakened. Not wanting to get himself into a bigger fight that second, Alex bolted off to the bus, carefully clenching Gabe’s phone and planning to give it back to him once he came into the bus.

The other jock yelled something threatening to Alex before helping his friend up and starting off, pretty much ignoring Gabriel other than a quick glare.

Eyes glancing over to Alex for a swift moment when he noticed the other boy, Gabe trained his gaze back on his phone. He didn't know what the guys were going to do with it, and he just wanted it back before they decided to smash it or something.

Eyes widening slightly when Alex actually approached, he almost let out a small laugh when he saw how small he was compared to the jocks. He almost looked like a midget next to them.

Wincing slightly at the mention of Gabe being Alex's boyfriend, his jaw dropped when Alex made his move. Eyes huge and mouth wide open, he watched as Alex proceeded to grab Gabe's phone from the jock's grasp and knee him in the crotch, his eyes followed the small q-tip as he bolted for the bus.

At first, Gabe didn't move, then he shuffled awkwardly on to the bus to retrieve his phone from Alex.

Alexander hopped into his seat in the back, relieved to be back on the bus. He knew he’d more or less be safe from the jocks until at least the next day. He sat cross legged, pulling Hamlet out of his backpack and opening it up.

When Gabriel came back onto the bus, more slowly than Alexander had obviously, he waited until the other boy got to the back before holding up his phone. For a moment he didn’t look up, but after a beat he raised his head to look at him. “Sorry,” he said, his voice void of much emotion. “Didn’t mean to lose it like that.”

He looked around the seat before glancing back at Gabriel. “Still gonna avoid sitting with me? I promise I won’t talk the whole time.”
