As Sebastian talked, Esther realized that he must be much better at schoolwork than she. His ideas were much better than any she could even fathom and they seemed to come so naturally. She couldn’t even take credit for any of them. As he suddenly brushed off his ideas, the short-haired girl sat up straight in her seat, “No, no.. I liked those ideas. We can definitely work with that. Maybe we can also add, umm..” she trailed off, trying to think of a good idea to help contribute. Hopefully, one that was as intuitive as Sebastian’s ideas were. Suddenly, she felt like she had to prove herself to him. She did want him to be dragging her along after him with this project, she could only guess that he’d get sick of her not doing anything sooner rather than later. So, she let the gears turn in her head for a few moments before she offered up an idea, “We could talk about the way school negatively affects students, you know? Everyone says that school is so great, but all they’re doing is masking the huge amounts of pressure and stress that are put on students. Then, they’re expected to carry all of that, do homework and have their own time to relax and be social. And it really isn’t good for their health, I think people should acknowledge that a lot more,” she said thoughtfully.

After her words trailed off, Sebastian introduced himself once she had already done so. She smiled and noticed the nervous shift in his eyes and the slight blush on his cheeks, but she found his shyness to be endearing. ES nodded her head along to his words. She always liked when people had nicknames. It was like their own personal way of describing themselves that wasn’t with the name that their parents had given to them as a newborn. The girl looked on at her partner, “Yeah, I heard the teacher call out your name.. but, it’s nice to meet you, Ashton,” she said, testing out the nickname he had mentioned.

( no worries, feel better soon! I’m not too picky on posting length c: good luck on your testing!!)

Sebastian stared at her in awe as she spoke. Her voice was so clear and bold. He watched her expression flow with her words as he noticed her small gestures as she spoke. It was as if she were speaking to him with her hands, trying to paint little images in the air and only giving him the ability to see. He blushed and looked away once again, trying not to make it obvious that he was amazed by her courageousness and liveliness.
"Perhaps we can implement our own thoughts on what should be taught in school," He added shyly. "Like, apply our own perspectives and definitely call out the crucial faults with the the grading system, standardized tests, and just the academic environment itself."

Sebastian sighed, glancing up to meet her dark eyes before looking away quickly. Was it obvious he was anxiously nervous around her? Was it her that caused such emotion or was it him not knowing how to act in front of someone he never knew? He brushed his curly hair out of his hand, only to feel it slowly creeping back to the place it was before.

"I will be handing out a small packet on what the essay requires," The bald-man teacher announced, "It will also provide guidance in case one doesn't know where to start."

Sebastian grabbed the paper that was handed to him. Setting it down but not caring to look at it. He felt as if both him and his partner already had a good plan on where to start and what to do. The teacher had already announced the requirements so there was no point in wasting seconds of time just to read over something that he was already informed with.
Perhaps that's what could be mentioned in the essay. The way some teachers treat the students as if they were some creature in a cage to mock and mold into their useless expectations. They expected the students to act like adults and prepare themselves to go live on their own, yet they treat them like they are still clueless children, still unable to tie their shoelaces.

Esther was nodding along enthusiastically to Sebastian’s additions. She was exited now - admittedly, that was mostly because she was happy to rant on about the school system and it’s many, many flaws - but she could only guess that once they got to the actually work she’d be far from happy. Perhaps she’d hold onto this feeling for now, though. At school, happiness didn’t come easily. The feeling was usually only found at lunch when she and her friends walked to the small pizza place down the street and got lunch. Everything else had a huge lack of joy and light and warmth. Classes were boring. Especially when she didn’t have anyone she knew in them, she’d just sit there and watch the seconds tick by on the large clock that hung on the wall. Though, it was just as bad - maybe even worse - when she did have friends with her in her class. Mostly because the teachers were strict and didn’t even let them speak to each other and, if they did, they’d change the seating plan and have them on opposite sides of the classroom. She nearly scoffed out loud when that thought crossed through her mind, but she held it in. She still found it odd how teachers controlled students like they were their children, maybe she was biased because teachers tended to pick her out in the crowd and be much more strict and stern with her due to her lack of work ethic. But, still.. maybe students would listen better if they were given more freedom and time, if they weren’t constantly put on tight schedules and still expected to get straight A’s.

ES tuned right back into reality when the teacher spoke up again, this time he walked around and placed a small packet of papers in between each pair of students. It was a simple essay outline. Subconsciously, she glanced up at the clock and saw that class would be over soon, in about fifteen minutes, to be exact. So, she didn’t bother to start writing on the papers. Instead she looked back over to Ashton, not even focusing on the teacher, she wasn’t even sure if he was still speaking or not. In fact, one of her many talents was muting things she didn’t want to hear and that included the annoying voices of her teachers. She folded her arms on the table and looked towards her partner, “When did he say this was due again? Will we get anymore class time before our rough drafts are due or anything?” she asked quickly, leaning forwards slightly as she spoke.

A large sigh escaped the bald-man-teachers mouth as he rolled his eyes and glared at Esther.

"Miss Smith," He spat. "You an that mouth with your snarky remarks. I paired you with the top student and you still think you can slip by with the act of trying to portray the image of a good student."

He sighed once again, shaking his head and moving his hands on his hips as he slouched awkwardly in an uncomfortable manner.

"You have a week to finish a 5-10 page essay," He announced, directing it towards Esther. "Any more snarky remarks?"

The man didn't care for an answer as he turned away and went back to his desk.

Sebastian glared at the man, turning his attention back to Esther. He cleared his throat and looked aware cautiously as if he were being watched.

"Okay," He said quietly. "First body paragraph: Mistreatment and degrading towards the students from the teachers."

He felt helpless as he was unable to stick up for Esther again the teacher. Somehow he felt a small instinct to stand up for her. But he had just met her today, maybe she had a jokingly bond with the teacher and he wasn't humiliating her. She remained to have no expression or reaction on her face and she showed no signs of being affected by the teacher. He was intelligent. Not just academically but with people too. Even though he lacked experience with socializing, he still easily managed to read everyone precisely. However, Esther was another story. She was different. She was difficult to read.had all the emotion of wet concrete, her facial muscles just as loose. There was no anger, no sadness, no joy or resentment. She never even appeared bored as she sat at the desk. She lacked posture but she wasn't entirely sloppy either. To many, Her presence was as important was a mannequin. But not to Sebastian. He was interested in her. Many people became interested in others because they had something to relate to. Not to him. He had nothing to relate to her with him. Perhaps he did and that's what made him interested in her. He was curious about searching for what they had in common. Perhaps she was as broken and empty as he was, but managed to stabilize a good mental and emotional state.

Before Sebastian could even speak to answer Esther’s question a large sigh was heard. It was long and drawn out, completely full of annoyance. She already knew who it was. The teacher. The short-haired girl refused to look over at the balding man for a few moments as she rolled her eyes for a brief moment. Then, she turned her head towards her English teacher and watched him rant on for a few moments about her bad behaviour and the golden boy sitting across from her. Personally, she didn’t really understand what his deal was, all she was trying to do was make sure she got this project done in time, but he just had to go off for no reason. She sat still, with her hand placed on her cheek and her elbow resting on the wooden desk as he finally addressed her question - which was directed to Ashton, by the way. Once the man turned his back to the girl she say up straight, “Nopre, nothing more to add,” she chirped, “but thanks for asking!” Once her bright and friendly words cut off her face fell into a scowl as she glared after the teacher as he walked to his desk.

ES turned towards her partner - who her teacher had so graciously reminder her was the top student in class, oh.. she despised her teachers, all of them! She shook away her thoughts before they turned against her and made her question herself. She also made sure to not focus on her teacher’s snarky remarks about Sebastian, she didn’t want her annoyance to spill onto him. Since he had only been kind to her this whole time. She nodded her head along to his words, “Yeah, that sounds great,” she said half-heartedly. Oh, great, and there it was.. the guilt, the terrible, festering guilt and the feeling of being small and minuscule in the grand scheme of things.. it this big, scary world. Of course her teachers hated her, she was a terrible student. Esther sighed inwardly, she didn’t want to drag this poor innocent guy in front of her into all of her problems and she could bet that he had heard the slightly defeated sound in her voice. So, she laughed softly and put a smile onto her face, “That first paragraph sounds a lot like Mr. Grumpy-Pants over there,” she said playfully as she nodded towards the teacher who sat behind his desk, grading papers.

( sorry for the late reply! my muse for human roleplays has been low lately ;-; )

((It's fine! If you want, we can perhaps discuss another role play? Or, we can stop this one if you have no muse to continue it.))

Sebastian occupied himself by writing down ideas. The introduction that introduces the body paragraphs, the body paragraphs, the supportive evidence to support them and the conclusion. Of course, he needed some time to fully construct the essay, but he already had a good map inside of his head. This could either take two hours for tonight or his whole night. However, whether he looked occupied or not, his mind was somewhere else. Had he spoken up would that of made things better? Was staying silent somehow a form of agreeing to what the teacher had said? Perhaps he should have stood up for her. But would that have made it seem like he thought of her as someone too weak to stand up for herself?

Sebastian shifted in his chair awkwardly. Clearing his throat and making eye contact with the girl in the yellow sweater beside him for a second or so before turning his gaze back to his pencil. If he were to say so himself, she was quite... pretty. He had no intentions in relationships, especially in high school. He knew how it always ended. He will either end up letting his hormones get the best of him and get her pregnant, or they would somehow make some commitment to stay together and end up controlling each others lives. He was not interested in that and she didn't seem like the one to be interested in such actions either. She also didn't seem like someone who would be interested in much. Though he had just met her, he could already determine who she was based on her physical appearance and vocal aspects. If that was even a thing to observe. Finally, he spoke up.
"Don't listen to people like him," He said. "Academic intelligence doesn't determine one's worth. The only one that can do so is yourself. Just because I can solve math problems and construct an essay faster than you doesn't mean I am more superior than you."

Sebastian looked into her eyes. Her dark eyes. Her eyes seemed almost black and it would not surprise him if they really were instead of dark brown.
