Adelaide Matthews ♡ Adelaide waited for the car to come to a complete stop before unbuckling her seatbelt and opening the door. She felt the little pull on her hand from it being connected with River's before she let go just to get out of the car. Almost a split second later she missed the feeling of his hand in hers. She closed the door and stared out the child's playground, remembering the childhood that took place here. She remembered being just 8 years old and begging her mother to go and let her play with the other children. Adelaide couldn't help but smiled at the remembering thoughts.

River unbuckled his seatbelt after Adelaide unlatched their hands, and then he got out of the car. He closed the door and locked the car before he slipped the keys into the pocket of his jeans. He walked to the back of the car and stood besides Adelaide, smiling as he looked at the park he had spent so much time at growing up. River then looked down at Adelaide and his smile grew, "Race you to the swings!" he told her, immediately taking off towards the swing set as soon as he finished his sentence. The boy quickly hopped onto one of the empty swings and waited for Adelaide to sit on the empty one beside him. He started to swing back and forth, his eyes on the girl as a specific question tugged at him, "Why are you doing this?" he asked, "Why are you risking everything to be my friend, Ade?" he added, knowing his question would probably change the mood, but needing to know the answer.

Adelaide Matthews ♡ She turned her head to look at him. As soon as he'd suggested a race, she took off after him. She was just a little bit slower than him, so she reached the swings last. She took the open swing beside him, beginning to kick her feet and gain air. This was like nostalgia to her, kicking her feet at this park like she used too. She turned to look at River, still kicking her feet as she looked at him. Adelaide was taken aback by his question. She had to think of a way to make sure she didn't expose herself right here and now, though a small part of her mind told her to do it. She wanted to listen to that little part of her mind, but she was too afraid of it. "You know why I'm doing this?" She stopped herself from swinging to look at him straight on. She felt her face get hotter as the words slipped out of her mouth. "Because I like you, River James. And I don't care what anyone else thinks. You're one of the most amazing people I've ever met and one loss for the school won't ever change that."

River's eyes stayed focus on the girl as he waited for her response. While he appreciated Adelaide treating him the same way she always has, not letting the game change her option of him, he didn't understand why. When Adelaide started to talk River planted his feet firmly on the ground so that the swing wouldn't move, and he continued to look at her. His heart started beating fast for some reason, most likely because he was slightly terrified to hear what was about to come out of the girl's mouth. Was it because she was just a really good friend? Or did she feel sorry for him? River took a deep breath and listened to the girl's words, his heart beating faster when she admitted to liking him. That was something he hadn't expected her to say at all, but without thinking twice he leaned over to her swing and kissed her gently on the lips. The boy slowly pulled away, opening his eyes from the kiss and smiling at Adelaide as he repositioned himself on his swing, "Sorry, I couldn't help myself," he told her. It was true, he had no clue what had washed over him in that moment. But as soon as Adelaide admitted to liking him, all those feelings he once felt for her came rushing back.

Adelaide Matthews ♡ The silence in the air was deafening, making Adelaide hold her breath. What was he going to do or say? It scared her, not knowing what was next or what was going to happen. Then, she saw him lean over to her swing and the next thing she knew he was pressing his lips to hers. Adelaide sat there, frozen. It was't the bad type of slowing, rather the shocked kind. As he pulled away, Addie felt her face heat as she made eye contact again with him. "You're fine," she smiled down at her feet. This time, she leaned forward into the area of his swing and gently kissed his lips, her hand resting on his shoulder. She could feel the heat of her own face, or maybe that was her own imagination. In all honesty, she had had always wished this was how things would work out, her with River. If Izzy knew about this, Ade was sure that Izzy would be angry with her, but it was her fault that she broke up with River for no reason.

River smiled when he felt Adelaide's lips pressed against his again. So this is what it felt like to kiss Adelaide Matthews. In all honesty he had pictured getting to this point in his relationship with Adelaide multiple times before he started dating Iz, but he never once thought he would actually get here. He had always had feelings for Adelaide, but he thought she would always just be the girl he had a huge crush on in high school. The fact that he was actually here, kissing her, felt so amazing. Like it was suppose to be this way, just him and her. The boy eventually pulled away from Adelaide and looked into her eyes, smiling wide as he examined her face. He gently extended his hand to tuck some hair behind her ear, "Let me take you out," he told her, "Like on a real date," he suggested to her. As he spoke to Adelaide, he couldn't help but picture Izzy in the back of his head. He hadn't been on a date with a girl that wasn't her in a long time, but he wanted to do things right with Adelaide. He wanted to take her out, get to know her, and just enjoy her company. Just the two of them.

Adelaide Matthews ♡ As Adelaide felt River pull away, her eyes fluttered open. They studied his grinning face, making her own break out into a smile. Her heart pounded so loud in her ears that she was sure it wasn't internal anymore. She blushed as he reached over, pulling a stray strand of hair behind her ear. She shyly glanced down before meeting his eyes. When he suggested that he take her out, she felt butterflies come to her stomach. She'd also imagined that this would happen, but she'd never thought her little imaginations would become reality. "Alright. It's not like I could refuse you, anyways." Adelaide winked at him playfully before twisting back into her own space. She began kicking her legs, gaining a little more air and also making her swing a little faster.

River's smile widened slightly when Adelaide agreed to a date with him, "Good!" he told her. This was not how River expected his day to go. He imagined that it would just be dreadful because everyone suddenly hated him, but Adelaide made it the complete opposite. His mind started to wander off as he thought about where he wanted to take Adelaide for their date. He wasn't sure of the location or when to take her out, but he knew it needed to be amazing. The boy leaned back as he sat in the swing, his eyes still in Adelaide's direction as she started to swing back and forth. Just as he was also about to start swinging, he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. River leaned forward to pull his phone from out of his back pocket, and looked at the screen as it lit up in his hand. He read the messages that were popping up about tonight's football practice, his teammates arguing over whether it was even worth him showing up. Originally he had planned to just ditch, but then he knew that would mean he had let them win. The boy let out a long sigh,"Are you going to cheer practice?" he asked Adelaide. He didn't want to go to football practice, but he knew he needed to show his face and prove to his team and his coach that he was still The River James.

Adelaide Matthews ♡ Adelaide let out a little giggle before continuing to swing back and forth. She felt like she was young, and in that moment she felt as careless as a child. As soon as the two would leave that park, her responsibilities would come flooding back like a raging river. Speaking of responsibilities, when River mentioned something about practice, her face dropped. As captain of the cheer squad, she was required to go to practice; the only exception was if she was sick. "I should probably go. And if you decide to go to practice, you can't possibly go alone." Another goofy grin came over Addie's face as she let her legs hang as she slowly stopped swinging. Her hazel eyes found River's, her smile broadening briefly.

River knew he needed to go to practice today, even though every ounce of him never wanted to step back in that school again. The boy let out a long sigh and looked up at Adelaide, "I'll go," he told her. He was proud of himself for deciding to face his team, even if he knew it would be one of the worst practices ever. At least he knew Adelaide would be going with him which calmed him down a bit. He wasn't even sad over the fact the whole school hated him, it was more so he was angry over the fact he had made one mistake and everyone suddenly turned on him. Everyone except Adelaide. He smiled at her and extended his hand, "Let's go grab some food and then we can head back to school," he suggested, ready to face the crowd with her by his side.
