The corner of Adelaide's mouth tugged upwards at his sarcastic comment. "Right?" She responded back, matching his tone of sarcasm. The only thing Addie wanted to do right about now was leave, just skip the rest of her classes. The classes would only last longer, giving her more of a chance to mouth off and get herself in trouble. But then a bright idea flashed in her mind. "River, you have a car, right?" Adelaide looked up at him, knowing the answer already. She saw him walking away from his car this morning, so the answer was a simple yes, yet she still asked.

River looked at the girl with confused eyes when she asked about him having car, "...yeah?" he said with a hesitant tone. The boy stood beside Adelaide as he tried to figure out what she had in mind. He knew by the way her face suddenly had lit up that she was planning something, but he didn't know what exactly. At first he thought Adelaide was about to suggest they leave, but he shook that thought out of his head and continued to think of alternative options. As he did so, he felt his phone buzz multiple times in his backpack, but he ignored it. He was hesitant to see why he was suddenly getting so many notifications, so he decided against looking at it, knowing it would bring down his mood.

She was going to suggest that the two leave, but she believed to give herself another moment. Nope, she wanted to leave. "Do you think we could sneak out of here?" She lowered her voice and found herself leaning closer to River so he could hear her. But then, someone bumped into Adelaide's backpack, sending her into River's chest. She felt her face immediately get hotter than the surface of the sun, too afraid to move. Her mind raced for a minute before she broke herself from the trance. She backed up a step, glancing nervously everywhere but at River's face. "I- um- sorry," she managed to squeak out, staring down at her shoes.

River was very surprised when Adelaide suggested they leave. Apparently his first thought had been correct after all. The boy took a moment to think about his response, trying to weigh the pros and cons of leaving in his head. As he thought more about it, he quickly realized the pros definitely outweighed the cons. The boy was just about to reply to Adelaide's question when someone bumped into her, and she fell into him. The boy immediately extended his arms so he could catch the girl, making sure she wouldn't fall and get hurt. As she took a few steps back, he smiled and allowed a small chuckle to escape him, "It's totally fine. You okay?" he replied to her. River took a second to readjust his backpack on his shoulder as it had fallen off in his attempt to catch Adelaide, "Come on, let's get out of here!" Riv told her. Without even thinking about it he extended his hand for her to take. Immediately he regretted the decision, but it was too late to take it back now.

She nodded slightly when he asked if she was alright, smiling like a complete dork. She looked up at him, noticing him wearing a smile, which made her feel slightly better. And then he extended his hand to her, making her face heat once again. Her face was now red, from all this blushing going on. Stop it, Adelaide. Control yourself, she scolded herself, taking his hand. She turned a few corners bursting through the main doors. She could tell the ladies in the office were now in the hallways, trying to figure out the two figures who'd just flown out of the doors without having permission, but she couldn't care less. She was on cloud nine, just holding River's hand had that effect on her. And finally, there were no disapproving glares or whispers, just the sounds of the wind in her ears and the sound of the birds chirping.

When River noticed Adelaide blush at the action of extending his hand, his smile grew a bit wider. Maybe it wasn't a mistake after all. As Adelaide took off down the hall, turning a few corners before bursting through the front doors of the school, River followed closely beside her with her hand still in his. As soon as he stepped foot outside all of the stress and feelings of anxiety subsided. He was no longer thinking about all the people in that building and their negative thoughts and opinions of him. He knew he would have to deal with it again tomorrow, but for now he was going to enjoy the rest of his day with Adelaide. The boy guided Adelaide to his car, pulling his keys out of his pocket as he approached it. He led Adelaide to the passenger's side and opened the door for her, proving that chivalry wasn't dead. Once she was in, he jogged over to the driver's side and got in, throwing his bag onto the backseat. The boy turned to look at Adelaide as he started up his vehicle, "Where to?" he asked.

Adelaide took her seat in his passenger's seat, closing her door when he jogged off to his side. Once the two were safely inside, she retook his hand. It was a little risky, and definitely made her slightly regret it. She pulled on her seatbelt and turned to look over at him. "The park sounds nice. No disapproving looks there," she offered with a slight smile. Her backpack was now removed from her back and was now sitting in front of her on the floor beside her legs. She pulled her constantly buzzing phone out of her back pocket. The girls were talking about practice tonight, how they'd all decided not to go. Adelaide couldn't help but smirk down at her phone, rolling her eyes and shutting it off.

River thought about her suggestion to head to the park, and nodded in agreement, "Alright," he said. The boy pulled out of the parking spot he was in and started the drive to the park, his hand still holding Adelaide's. He was glad when she took his hand again, as he was already missing the feeling of hers in his. River really didn't know what all this hand holding meant for the two of them, but he didn't mind it at all. He knew they were both experiencing some "more than friends" feelings, he just wasn't sure if these were new or old feelings. He knew for sure these were resurfacing old feelings on his side, but he was clueless about her side. The boy kept his eyes on the road for the majority of the trip, but every now and then he would glance towards Adelaide. He couldn't put into words how much he was enjoying her company.

As she watched the surroundings outside change from a school setting to a park setting, she couldn't stop thinking about the boy sitting next to her. What was this sudden urge to lean over and confess everything she'd thought about him since they met freshman year? Not even she knew, and she definitely was not going to do that. She couldn't tell whether he felt the same, but she could tell he felt more than just friends. She looked over at River now, and couldn't stop the extremely dorky smile that formed on her face.

The drive to the park wasn't a long one, but River wished it was. He was enjoying this drive with Adelaide. It was so strange to think that they had been friends for almost four years yet this was the first time it had ever just been them hanging out. They normally only hung out in group settings, as River's ex was the jealous type. Even though Izzy and Adelaide were friends, Iz didn't like him hanging out with other girls when she wasn't around. For the most part River followed through with her wishes, but occasionally he would still hang out with some of his girl friends. He had known a lot of them before Izzy and him even started dating, so he wasn't just going to drop them because he was suddenly in a relationship. He regretted not ever taking the time to hang out with just Adelaide, as this past hour had been such an enjoyable experience for him. The boy couldn't help but smile when he spotted that dorky smile appearing on her face, pulling into a parking spot near the park as he did so.
