Adelaide Matthews ♡She felt herself blush at his mention of her being perfect, and in her mind she thought he wasn't just talking about her in the jacket. That's what she wanted him to mean, but she knew it wasn't. She nodded at his comment about heading to homeroom. She kept her head held high, walking beside him despite the dirty looks that she barely thought of anymore. She suddenly regretted why she hadn't tried to hang out with him before all of this happened but then she remembered the reason why. He'd had a girlfriend, and she was overprotective of him, so she wasn't allowed to hang out with him that much. But now that the two were split, she wanted to hang out with him more.

River
James
When the two of them arrived at their homeroom, River opened the door for Adelaide so that she could walk in. He then entered the room, following behind her. Once again he was met by a bunch of eyes staring at him, but after having to experience that all morning, he was kind of becoming immune to it. This was River's life now whether he liked it or not. He was no longer the football star everyone loved and appreciated. All his hard work and many wins he had made for his team were forgotten just like that. A part of River was angry that he had put so much time and effort into the sport, because apparently no one truly appreciated it. One game. He lost one major game in the three and a half years he'd been playing on this team, and he suddenly loses everyone's respect. It upset him to know that all the friendships he had had were just lies, but he wasn't going to let that ruin the rest of his high school career. Adelaide showed him that not everyone in this school is fake, and he appreciated that. From now on he was going to focus on him and what makes him happy, and in this very moment that was being around Adelaide.

Adelaide Matthews ♡Adelaide thanked him as he opened the door for her, smiling warmly towards him. She was greeted to glares and disgusted looks, making Addie's smile falter. She wanted to scream out to everyone to stop looking at him like that, but she refrained from doing so. After a split second, she could hear the whispers of her and River's name, making her roll her eyes. "Whatever..." she groaned, frustrated with everyone who seemed to hate River for no reason. He'd won tons of games for this team, for this small city, and after one slip-up this is how they repayed him, with glares and rumors. She walked along to the back of the classroom, sitting in the, almost empty, back row and waited for her homeroom teacher to begin taking the attendance.

River
James
River once again ignored the stares and whispers as he followed Adelaide to the back of the room. The boy took a seat in the empty desk next to hers, and dropped his backpack on the side of the desk. He knew this would be the routine for the day. Him walking into his classes or down the halls, constantly being greeted by stares and whispers. He was really glad he was becoming immune to it, because he wouldn't be able to walk down those halls if he continued to allow it to bug him. As the boy sat quietly in his seat, waiting for his homeroom teacher to take attendance, he started to wonder if it was even worth going to practice tonight. He had lost all respect from his teammates, which was kind of a necessity when it came to playing the game. If no one respected him, no one would toss him the ball, so he'd pretty much be running around the field aimlessly. The boy let a sigh escape him as he leaned back in the chair and crossed his arms, occasionally glancing over at Adelaide.

Adelaide Matthews ♡ Removing her phone from her back pocket, she watched the screen light up with messages from the cheerleading groupchat. Morgan had started something, typing something about why she was wandering the halls wearing River’s letterman. The other girls seemed shocked and almost disgusted st the thought of their captain liking the most hated kid on the football team. Adelaide growled to herself, her fingers typing a message with fury. why do you girls feel the need to attack him? he did nothing do deserve this. it was one major game out of the three years he’s been on the team. if you ladies can’t learn to keep your gossip to yourselves you can leave the team and let the door hit you on the way out. Now, Addie looked madder than ever. Even her own friends were turning against her because she was just simply friends, though she wanted the be more, with River. She clicked the button to shut her phone off and stared at the ceiling momentarily before looking over at River.
((i’m sorry if there’s any typos. i’m currently doing this from my phone))

River glanced over at Adelaide while she was on her phone, and then he directed his attention back towards his teacher. For a moment there he had completely forgotten he had a phone, as he hadn't checked it since he received that break up text from Izzy. The boy sighed and recalled him tucking his phone away in his backpack, not wanting to continue reading the rude texts he was getting or angry posts towards him that people were making on social media. River turned his head once again towards Adelaide, seeing that she looked kind of upset, "You okay?" he asked quietly, trying not to attract the attention of their homeroom teacher.

Adelaide Matthews ♡ When River spoke to her, her face softened a little. "Yeah, yeah. I'm fine. I just can't believe some people..." She turned back to the teacher as he began taking attendance, calling out the names. When he called her name, she just raised her hand for a split second before bringing it down. She hated this, the way everyone was treating both of them; it was unnecessary and childish. Normally, homeroom only lasted a few minutes, but today it felt like it was dragging on. Adelaide believed that's how most of her classes would go, especially the ones that didn't include River. Knowing herself, Adelaide figured she'd finally snap in one of her classes and land herself in detention.

River
James
River nodded slightly at Adelaide's comment before he turned back to face his teacher when he heard him start calling the list of names. He waited for his to be called, lifting his hand slightly when it was. He noticed everyone turn their heads to look at him in the back of the room, but the boy once again made an effort to ignore them. On the inside he just wanted to slide under his desk, but he knew he couldn't. He couldn't show everyone how much they were getting to him, because that meant he was letting them win. River ran his hand through his hair and listened to his teacher make a few more announcements, impatiently waiting for him to release them to first period.

Adelaide Matthews ♡ After what felt like an eternity, the teacher finally stopped talking and released them to first period. Standing and also shoving her phone in her back pocket, Adelaide made a straight line for the door, forgetting she was supposed to be there for River as well as stay by his side. She paused, moving out of everyone's way as she waited for River out in the hall. Her heart raced, already missing him as she stood almost eleven feet away from him. She heard the whispers again, but decided to ignore them once again. By now, the whole school probably knew about Adelaide's loyalty to River and about her wearing his letterman, but she could care less. She wasn't going to stop being happy for the school's selfish benefit.

River
James
River's body immediately loosened up slightly when the teacher released them from this class. It was weird to sit through homeroom and be so quiet, as River normally spent the short period talking and joking around with his friends. This whole morning had been strange for River, as he just wasn't used to not being around the popular crowd. The boy quickly stood up from his chair and reached for his bag, turning his head to look over at Adelaide who had already taken off for the door. He could tell the stares and whispers were also getting on her nerves, but he appreciated her staying by his side. Riv quickly swung one of the straps of his backpack over his shoulder and headed for the door. He spotted Adelaide waiting off to the side with him, and he gave her a friendly smile. He was kind of relieved that they shared quite a few of the same classes, but he was also pretty anxious about having to attend some classes without her. He knew everyone was upset with her for hanging out with him, and he really didn't want her to have to put up with any rude comments or opinions about it. Adelaide had made this day a lot better for him, but he still just wanted to head home and ditch the remainder of his classes. The boy looked over at the girl who was still wearing his letterman jacket, "Well homeroom was a blast today," he said sarcastically.
