Maki placed the last box in her apartment before wiping her forehead and sighing deeply. She looked around the apartment, which was filled with boxes filled with everything she needed. The apartment wasn’t the biggest, but it was roomy enough for a college student. She felt satisfied as she looked around her apartment. It was already furnished with some small items, including a couch, a coffee table, and a small dining table in the kitchen. There was only one bedroom, but it had two twin beds in it. Overall it wasn’t a shabby place.

She walked around the apartment to get a sense of the place. She would have to get used to living in a smaller space. She was used to her big house. In fact, half of the apartment was as big as her entire living room. She figured she would get more comfortable over time, once she started to actually work here. And clean here. And maybe cook here. She shivered at the thought of eating her own food.

College. She was finally here. She didn’t really know what to expect from it. She understood it would be much harder than high school, and that there would be much more demand when it came to work, especially since she was studying to become a surgeon. Her main concern was the people. Unlike high school, where she had a decent amount of friends (and even joined an idol group), college was going to have people she had never met before. There would be new faces, new opportunities, new chances to become a different person then she was a few years ago.

It terrified her, all these new things. She didn’t want to meet new people. She found it hard to talk to others, and she wasn’t exactly the most friendliest person. And the idea of changing scares her to. Despite that, she was still excited to finally start pursuing her medical career. And it wasn't like she had to change or meet new people. She could just keep to herself. She didn't have to talk to others. Of course not. She could do all the work on her own. In fact she had already been doing most of the work on her own. Her professors had already given her a nice stack of work to do over the summer in preparation for college. She had spent most of her summer painstakingly doing complicated equations and memorizing biology terms. If she could do all that on her own, then she would be fine being alone.

Speaking of being alone, Maki realized that her roommate was late. She didn't expect to talk to her much, since she'd probably be too busy studying or doing other things in her apartment, so she barely knew anything about her. She was a tad bit annoyed that her roommate was late. It meant she had to stay here, doing nothing, until she came. Sighing, she sat on the couch, crossing her legs. She brought out her phone and plugged her headphones in. She pulled up one of her favorite classical songs and relaxed on the couch as she listened.
