It was a peaceful Friday afternoon when the news that shook the world broke. Nobody could have expected it, and even if they did they would have most certainly, be called crazy.

Lou Mirren sat in a small coffee shop in town, eating a croissant and sipping a latte. The chocolate brown walls gave the café a calming atmosphere. It wasn't the only coffee shop on the street so not many people were there. Two baristas behind the counter served drinks and snacks, while other patrons sat around at various tables and booths. Lou sat at a small two-person table against the wall near the middle of the room. A TV mounted on the wall played in the background, voices acting as ambient music.

Her neck length light brown hair was pulled back and tucked behind her ear. Brown eyes gazing down at her phone, she typed away, texting her mother. Her mother was a writer and had stayed up late last night. Lou's father was at work, an accountant for a large firm. After a few more minutes of conversation, her mother said she had to go let the cat in.

Taking another bite of her croissant, Lou glanced up at the TV. It was playing some news station, about some murders across the country. From what she could gather from the few seconds she watched it, they thought that all the murders were connected. It was playing live from an outdoor news conference in North Carolina, and it seemed like they were waiting for somebody. Interest lost, she returned to her snack.

She wanted to be home before dark, and still needed to pick up some things from the store on her way home. Pulling up the grocery list on her phone she mentally checked off things on the list she needed, making sure she hadn't forgotten to write anything down. 'Paper – check' Her eyes scrolled down the list, 'Bananas – check! Chocolate bars – check! Wrapping----" Her train of thought was cut off by the shrill shriek of a middle-aged woman who was watching the TV. Lou's head snapped up, looking at the television.

Some news anchor, who had a quiet shaken look in his eyes but was admirable for his professionalism, read from the prompts like he couldn't believe what he was saying. At the bottom of the screen a breaking news title ran on a loop. "Breaking News-" it said, "Mythical Creatures Live Among Us". The news anchor explained. "Due to eye witness accounts, live video recording, and irrefutable proof, mythical creatures undoubtedly exist. In a city in North Carolina, roughly thirty men, women, and children transformed into creatures of mythic in front of shocked onlookers. According to information gathered, approximately two-thirds of the population are mythical creatures." He continued to talk, while Lou honestly found it hard to believe. The video cut to a clip of the story it was covering earlier, the outdoor news conference. It showed, in crystal clear HD, the group of people change into all manners of monsters. Well, after that, Lou didn't know what to think.
