grayson was too busy being lost in his thoughts to notice the second set of footsteps. he continued walking, his pace a bit fast. he originally didn't have a plan on where he was going, but now he decided to head to the astronomy tower, hopefully to let his mind clear a bit. he wasn't sure why it kept getting stuck on skylar. he was just a hufflepuff boy, nothing special. (i was thinking we could start the part of the plot where they hear about the plan to take over hogwarts from within. if that's fine with you, then read below. if not, then disregard the writing below) he had nearly reached the tower when he heard voices. they were both unfamiliar, and seemed to be talking quietly, as though they didn't want to be found out. it sounded as though they were headed his direction, so grayson paused and waited behind a corner to see who it was.

It was getting to be one of those moments when Skylar really wished that he did know an alternative route to the astronomy tower, because he could see that Grayson seemed to be headed the same way. This was definitely going to be awkward, Skylar thought, when the Slytherin saw that he was, albeit unintentionally, following him. He considered calling out to Grayson quietly, to get his attention, but he was far too nervous to do such a thing. Maybe he could wait outside the door for a few minutes, then walk in? He did not need to think up any solutions, though, because he also heard hushed voices. Skylar almost froze on the spot, because he didn't want to attract attention - though he was walking very quietly - but he carried on walking, eventually nearing Grayson. He took a deep breath, and whispered, "What are you doing here?" figuring that it was best to at least make his presence known, rather than the Slytherin finding out himself.

grayson turned around in surprise. "god, don't sneak up on me like that!" he whispered in annoyance, glaring at the other boy. "i went on a walk. why are you here? did you follow me?" grayson said, eyes wide. "look, it doesn't matter. you don't have to admit you were following me. we have a more important issue at hand." he said, indicating the strange voices they'd heard. "i don't think they're supposed to be here." grayson murmured, trying to make out what they were talking about. the voices and their footsteps grew louder.

Skylar drew back slightly, flinching, but he didn't say anything in response to that. He did, though, want to make it clear that he had certainly not been following Grayson - not intentionally, anyway. "No. I was going to the astronomy tower," he replied, his voice still at a whisper. He remained silent as he also listened to the voices, trying to figure out what was being said as well. He was a little nervous, for he could hear them getting closer, and he didn't really want to think about what might happen if they were caught. Eventually, he could hear one of the voices clearly enough, talking about Hogwarts... and about some sort of prophecy - with one of the voices arguing that it didn't exist.

"the prophecy isn't real. you know that, mcgregor."
"don't tell me that when we both know what we saw."
"it could've easily been a hoax, made with a spell."
"both you and i know that was 100% dark magic. just admit it; you're afraid."
"i am NOT afraid. i just don't want to get caught up in this mess again."
"now is the time! we have to follow harvey's orders and begin the plan."
"honestly, mcgregor, you act as though a plan is needed. this school will be easy to take over."
"that's the spirit! now let's get out of here and report to headquarters."

grayson froze as they passed by him. they rounded a different corner and disappeared. he turned to skylar, his face a pale white. "dark magic.. taking over hogwarts.. harvey.." he rasped, his voice hoarse. "h-harvey...." grayson turned and began to walk away from skylar very quickly. many thoughts ran through his head all at once. who were those people? and how did they know harvey?

As he listened, Skylar breathed out slowly, once the two wizards had passed by, without even noticing that the two of them were stood there. "...What...?" he murmured to himself, trying to make sense of exactly what was being spoken about. He understood that it was about taking over Hogwarts, but he wasn't sure of the how or why. He glanced around, noticing that Grayson was walking away very quickly, having mentioned 'Harvey' - whoever that was. "Wait..." Skylar said, his voice quiet, and he followed Grayson, catching up to him. "Who's Harvey?"

he paused and turned to skylar slowly. "harvey..." he didn't want to tell him the truth, but grayson figured he had no choice.
"harvey is my older brother. he, uh, went to hogwarts a long time ago. there was this case.. a mudblood girl went missing and there wasn't a trace of her for weeks. she was discovered later in the forest, dead. the exact story is a bit more gory, so i'll spare you the details. days later, harvey was expelled. they'd found a trunk full of evidence under his bed, some really horrible things. they sent him away, i'm assuming to azkaban or a mental institute." grayson gulped. "he was always... odd. harvey was interested in dark magic. he always did awful experiments with it. the worst part is, father always tells me i should be more like him." grayson shivered. "just because i'm slytherin doesn't mean i have to be a murderer." deep down, he was terrified. what would skylar even say? what would anyone else say if they found out? "i've never spoken about him. nobody even knows he exists, or we're related."

Skylar listened to Grayson, frowning slightly at the use of the word 'Mudblood', but was still quite sympathetic of the situation. He shook his head slightly, "Perhaps, then, they might be talking of a different Harvey?" he suggested, in the hopes of giving some alleviation of fear. He was quite concerned that if this Harvey really was Grayson's older brother, then there would also be the question of how he managed to escape wherever he was sent to. "...I... I'm sorry about your father. And not all Slytherins are dark wizards, I know that." Skylar added, though a chill did run down his spine. Evidently, they were not dealing with just a couple of rogue wizards, and he was deeply concerned with what these wizards even wanted to do with Hogwarts. He'd heard all the stories from years ago, with Harry Potter defeating Voldemort... and that Basilisk that was in the Chamber of Secrets, that had been used to target Muggle-Borns. And he'd heard the mention of a prophecy - supposedly - which definitely piqued his interest. However, he also knew that it was definitely something that he should not let himself get mixed up in.

"no.. it's him." grayson murmured. "it's fine. i've never really bonded with my family. we were never close, so it's hard to miss what i never had." he said. "it's harvey, and we need to be careful. if he's involved in a prophecy and wants to take over hogwarts, we're in trouble. i don't want to, but maybe we should tell someone..." grayson said, looking at skylar. "with harvey roaming around, nobody is safe. i never really knew him, but was told he was praised for wanting to be like Voldemort — but better." it was a bit painful for grayson to relive and tell the memories of his family, but he knew he had to elaborate otherwise skylar wouldn't know the true danger they were in.

He'd already gathered that they were in trouble - at least, Hogwarts certainly is. Skylar nodded slightly in agreement, but then he asked, "Would anyone believe us? I mean... it would be our word against those wizards, and we won't have any proof," he didn't want to be caught up in all of this, but he could tell that he was rapidly coming close to not having any say in the matter. And he certainly could not just stand idly by, while he had the knowledge of these dark wizards and their plans - especially if what Grayson was saying about Harvey was true. He glanced around, warily. "I also do not think that standing here in the corridor discussing this is too wise... what if those wizards come back?" he added.
