the slytherin next to him said the spell and his eyebrows turned a bright red. grayson looked around for a few more seconds, noticing skylar and his light blue brows. the boy couldn't help but smirk a bit, and raised his wand. "crinus muto!" he said, and his eyebrows became a deep purple. he grinned and repeated the spell a few more times, just for the fun of it. grayson saw a few others doing the same.

his eyebrows flashed many different colors, going from yellow to green to blue to pink, back to purple, and finally the original color. grayson highfived the slytherin beside him, who had successfully made their eyebrows rainbow colored. he never knew a boring class like transfiguration could actually be sort-of fun. the professor watched the students for a moment, before calling "settle down!"

Now that he'd tried it a few times, Skylar felt less ridiculous with the spell. It also helped that he glanced around to the students around him, and they mostly all had some sort of wild, crazy-coloured eyebrows. Given how simple the spell was as well, he found himself enjoying it all a whole lot more. He returned his focus back to himself, and carried on practicing the spell, changing his brows to a deep red, to a foresty green, to pale blue, to lavender (just to name a few colours) before he settled back on his usual eyebrow colour.

Once the professor had called out for everyone to settle down, Skylar set his wand back on his desk. Next to him, his friend murmured to him about how the class had actually been quite enjoyable. Usually, the spells could be a lot more complex, so it was nice to start off the year with something more light-hearted.

grayson placed his wand down on the desk and listened to the professor. the class was drawing to a close, and it was time for them to assign tonight's assignment. "you'll be writing an essay." was all grayson heard. he felt the need to slam his forehead against the desk, but resisted. they were supposed to write 11 inches of parchment on a nonverbal spell of their choice. how fun.

grayson packed up his things, slipping his wand back into his pocket. he had a brief conversation with the slytherin next to him about which nonverbal spell they'd pick to write about. grayson considered doing homorphus, but couldn't really pick a topic. he hated nonverbal spells and didn't have the patience to try and master them. grayson sighed and began to head to the door.

Skylar wasn't all too surprised that the class had been assigned homework - after all, all of the other classes today had assigned some. Which in itself probably shouldn't have been too surprising anyway, since they were studying for NEWTs now. Though he did have to agree with his friend, who had muttered under their breath, that it did seem a bit excessive.

He packed up his things, putting his wand back into his pocket, and putting his textbook and parchment into his bag, then he stood up. At least it was the final lesson of the day, so Skylar decided that it would be worth going back to the Hufflepuff common room for a while, to get started on some of the homework before dinner.

grayson exited the classroom, casting a quick glance at skylar. he made his way down the familiar path to the slytherin common room, following his friends. they planned to start some of the homework, but grayson knew they would just end up goofing off and joking around instead of actually getting any work done.

a few minutes later, he was lounging in the common room with a few other slytherins. scrolls of parchment lay on the table, completely blank. the students around him were chattering about how boring and dumb their classes had been. grayson, meanwhile,
had a quill in hand and was trying to do at least one assignment before dinner.

Once he got back to the Hufflepuff common room, he and a few of his friends sat around a table, starting on their Potions homework. He found this to be quite easy - he wrote what he needed to, and added in that he'd found Grayson interesting to work with, but he couldn't yet make a proper assessment just yet, since they'd only worked together once. He was actually quite looking forward to working with Grayson again - but he didn't write that down.

Despite the workload, it was relatively easy to work through. Skylar managed to finish up a second assignment - the Charms one - before it was time to go to dinner. He stood up, tidying up his workspace, and then he walked down to the Great Hall.

grayson had only finished one assignment, the potions one. he wrote the experience was better than first expected, and how he and skylar had gotten along decently. grayson almost wrote that he wouldn't mind working with skylar again, but decided not to.
after all, they'd still be paired with each other anyway. what was the point?

he put away his scrolls so no other slytherin could try and snatch his answers. grayson stood with his friends and together they made their way to the great hall for dinner. they sat at the slytherin table beside their fellow house-mates. the hall was crowded and loud,
full of talking. grayson tried to eat fast, so he could return to the common room early and finish his homework.

Skylar glanced around as he sat at the Hufflepuff table, then he started to fill his plate with food as the dinner appeared in front of all of them. He wasn't in too much of a rush - he'd finished a couple of assignments, and he wasn't very worried about getting the others finished either. Mostly because, no doubt, he knew that he'd get it all finished with plenty of time.

After he finished - and so did the other Hufflepuffs that he was friends with - and the small group spent some time talking, before they stood up to head back to the Hufflepuff common room. Skylar glanced across the Great Hall for a moment, just as a way to check that everyone in the group was ready - and he accidentally caught sight of Grayson, who seemed to be in a rush. He looked away quickly, and started walking.

grayson rushed back to the common room and began to finish his assignments. it took him a while, and most of the other slytherins had went up to their dorms. his left hand ached from the constant writing, and he winced a bit in pain. "are you coming up?" one of the others asked, who was standing halfway up the stairs. "nah, i think i'll take a little walk around the castle before curfew sets in." grayson replied. the other boy nodded, and grayson exited the common room. he just slowly walked around, letting his hand cool down and his mind drift. he passed by the potions room and briefly thought of skylar. he shook the thought away and kept walking. however, his feet carried him unknowingly toward the hufflepuff common room. grayson realized how close he was to it and started to walk the other direction.

Once he was back in the Hufflepuff Common Room, Skylar got to work on the remaining assignments he had to do. He did, admittedly, let himself get distracted a couple of times by other Hufflepuffs that had taken to procrastinating as much as they could before giving into working on the assignments, but he otherwise managed to finish up with plenty of time before curfew.
"I think I'm going to go to the astronomy tower for a bit... before curfew," Skylar told one of his dormitory mates, who nodded in acknowledgement and told him to stay safe.
He left the common room, and started walking quietly down the corridor. He stopped, however, when he heard footsteps nearby, retreating away from the common room. Curiously, Skylar glanced around, and he spotted Grayson walking down the corridor, away from him. Confused at this, he started walking in the same direction - the astronomy tower happened to be in that direction anyway, and he didn't know of a more convenient route to get to it.
