✧Personality: Rather shy and somewhat sensitive, Skylar is definitely not the sort of person that would speak up in class, even if he was the only person to know the answer. Still, he is friendly and incredibly loyal to his friends, even if he's also a bit naive and can be somewhat easily manipulated. He's also patient, and can listen to someone talking for hours on end, and he's also a very curious person.

He pretty much grew up in his older brother's shadow - he was a Gryffindor, and achieved high grades in all of his OWLs and NEWTs. Skylar still achieves quite good grades, but it feels like to him that he's not going to be as good as his brother was, and that's the standard he's being held at.

Skylar woke up at dawn - today was the first day of classes for the new school year at Hogwarts. Thoughts of last night's welcome feast made themselves present at the front of his mind, and he briefly relived those moments, before getting himself out of his bed, and he started to get ready for the day ahead. He wondered what classes he would be starting today... he hoped that he'd get Ancient Runes today, or Herbology, because they were his favourite classes - as odd as some other people thought him as for liking them. He didn't so much mind what other people thought, though.

Once he went down to breakfast, though, he spotted his Head of House giving out timetables to students - first starting with the First Years that arrived, and then quickly looking through their stack of cards to find Skylar's timetable. He took it with a quiet 'thank you', then he sat down to eat breakfast - and to glance over his timetable. Much to his disappointment, he didn't have Herbology until Tuesday and Friday, but he did have Ancient Runes almost every day except Friday, so it wasn't too bad. He also had double Potions first today, he saw, and had Potions again on Thursdays. He put his timetable away into a pocket of his robes, and then started to eat.

grayson awoke to light filtering in through the window. he quickly got up, remembering what today was. for many slytherins,
such as himself, it was a day to laugh at the first years who couldn't find their classes. it was also the first say of hogwarts classes,
and grayson knew he needed to get his timetable and figure out his schedule. the boy got himself ready for the day and swiftly exited the dormitories, ready for his new year at hogwarts.

the crowd of students was quite large and suffocating. grayson rolled his eyes and pushed his way past, arriving in front of his head of house. he grabbed his timetable and walked away, past an insufferable group of first and second years. grayson sat down and quickly skimmed over his timetable. it looked as though he had double potions today, as well as thursdays. defense against the dark arts on wednesdays, herbology on fridays, and so on. the boy shrugged, putting away the paper. it wasn't the best alignment of classes, but also not the worst. grayson began to shovel down his breakfast.

Skylar was looking forward to this year - preparation for NEWTs, and having to study harder, it was going to be interesting.
After he finished eating, he quickly went back to his dormitory, just to pick up his bag, with the textbooks that he was going to need for the day. Then, he went straight to Potions. He knew that there was a new Potions professor this year, and he was looking forward to finding out just what they were like. Much to his surprise, when he got to the Potions classroom, he - and a few other Hufflepuff students that he'd walked with - spotted a floating piece of parchment just outside of the door. This was certainly a first - seating arrangements. Skylar frowned slightly, for he didn't want to be working with someone that he barely knew. Who even was Grayson Hayes, anyway?

Knowing it would be pointless to protest against it - he was far too shy to speak up against anything anyway, and the professor didn't seem to be present right now either - Skylar walked to the table that he had been assigned to sit at, and he set his bag down on the floor, just underneath the table.

grayson finished his breakfast and made his way over to the potions classroom. he had wanted to arrive early to impress the new teacher, but ran into some old friends in the halls. he talked to one of his fellow slytherins for a bit, then continued walking. however, he then passed by a group of lost first years and couldn't help but hurl and insult or two at them.

he approached the class and narrowed his eyes at the parchment containing a dreaded seating chart. it'd be fine if he was placed next to another slytherin, but the chances of that were slim to none. 'who is skylar vance?' he thought to himself, a look of annoyance on his face. grayson was going to be stuck sitting next to a hufflepuff. great.

he walked into the classroom and spotted where he was supposed to sit. 'skylar' was already there. the slytherin boy stalked across the room, arriving at the table and sitting down near the hufflepuff. he didn't bother to acknowledge skylar, and instead focused hiss attention at the front of the classroom.

Skylar made the mistake of glancing towards the door of the classroom, and spotted a handful of Slytherins... one of whom appeared to be in a foul mood. He could only hope that that particular student was not going to sit next to him, but those hopes diminished very quickly as he realised that the student was getting closer towards his table. Apparently, this was Grayson. He glanced away from the Slytherin student, almost terrified to make any sort of eye contact with him. He did want to greet him, to at least introduce himself, but it seemed that Grayson was not interested.

Instead, he also turned his focus towards the front of the classroom, and was relieved to see the Potions professor make an appearance just a few minutes later. The professor introduced themselves as Professor Vonderall, and spoke about their reasoning for having a seating plan - to test and create new partnerships and teamwork between different Houses. Then, they set the first assignment for the class - to create a Draught of Living Death in their assigned pairs.

grayson nearly groaned as professor vonderall announced they're be working in their pairs. it was one thing to sit next to a hufflepuff, and it was another to work together with one. however, out of all the other houses, hufflepuff was probably the one he liked most. after all, gryffindors were too stuck up and ravenclaws thought they were too superior with their so-called intelligence. he turned to skylar with a sigh.

grayson took his potions textbook from his bag and flipped to the page on draught of living death. he read over the directions. it seemed slightly complex. he wasn't the hugest fan of teamwork, and certainly wasn't the best at communication, so this would certainly be interesting. "i'm grayson." he said flatly, not bothering to have a proper or in-depth introduction.

He inwardly sighed, then steeled himself. He was going to at least try to make this work - whether Grayson wanted it to or not. He was not going to let himself fail this year, even if it meant doing all of the work. Skylar also took his textbook out of his bag, and opened it to the right page. He turned towards Grayson, when he spoke, and he responded, quietly, "I'm Skylar," he hesitated for a few moments, then he glanced towards the ingredients list before standing up. "I'm going to get the ingredients from the store cupboard, if you want to set the cauldron up,"

He walked off, towards the store cupboard, where a few other students had already gone to as well, to get the ingredients needed. Skylar took the time to weigh the ingredients while over there, so that he could bring back the right quantities, so that they could work on the potion once he returned. After a few minutes, Skylar approached the table again, carefully carrying the ingredients, and he set them out on the table.
