Yuki watched as Roanne and Luke talked, she waved to her friend, "I'll see you later." She headed back towards the dorms quietly. Ash smiled and waved to Yuki before turning to Roanne and Luke, "Can I join as well?"

"Sure," said Luke. They bid goodnight to Yuki and then headed to the small gathering of shops in the Pit. Roanne tried on several sweaters before deciding on a black hoodie with matte black flames along the sleeves.

"Thanks, guys. Goodnight!" Roanne waved to Luke and Ash, and then set off down the corridor to the initiate's dormitory.

She entered and showed Yuki the soft sweater, and then got ready for bed.

Yuki was up early the next morning. She got dressed and stretched before heading to the training room to practice. After a few hours she went to breakfast, rolling an apple in her hands before taking a few bites. The young girl more quiet than usual. After breakfast she shuffled in with everyone else and watched the first few fights.

Then it was her turn. She stepped onto the mat, swallowing as another initiate joined her. The guy was a little taller than her but extremely well built. She swallowed hard and got into stance, they circled each other and then he threw the first punch, she carefully dodged and aimed her body weight to throw him off balance but he grabbed her and spun her around. She caught his hand and twisted it before he made a solid punch with his free hand.

Off balance she stumbled and he swiped her feet out from under her. She pushed herself back up and threw all her weight against him, knocking him off balance this time. He grabbed her arm and twisted it behind her. She winced and took a deep breath, carefully spinning around she landed a blow in his chest, hard enough to knock the wind out of him. She winced as he yanked her arm on his way down. Feeling her shoulder pop out of place. She stumbled, regaining her balance only to have her feet kicked from under her again. She winced as she hit the ground and he kicked her in the ribs, feeling a few crack. She tried to pull herself up but he brought his boot to her face and everything went dark around her. He huffed and limped off the mat. She was taken to the infirmary.

Yuki opened her eyes, groggy. She winced and tounched her nose. She carefully got up and went to find Roanne to see how she did on her fight.

Roanne watched in horror as the male initiate kicked Yuki in the face. Surely that was much too violent; however, she was surprised when Eric simply smirked and didn't reprimand the boy for being so forceful.

When Four picked up Yuki to take her to the infirmary, Roanne stepped forward. She wanted to help her friend and to make sure she was okay, but Eric held an arm out in front of her. "You're going to forfeit your first match?" his icy cold voice said. "For my friend's safety, yes," Roanne said meekly. Eric brought his face close to hers and hissed that he would make sure that she was factionless by the end of the day, because Dauntless never quit. "I'm not a quitter," Roanne protested.

She stepped forward into the ring, facing a stocky, sturdy girl that was at least five inches taller than her. Roanne rushed to make the first move, and she caught her opponent off guard and managed to strike her jaw hard. The girl was enraged and began swinging wildly, catching Roanne multiple times in the ribs and stomach. Gasping for breath, Roanne rolled on the floor and kicked the girl's knee, forcing her legs to buckle and to fall. They wrestled on the ground for what seemed like eternity, but eventually, the girl sat up, Roanne crushed under her.

The girl laughed and stood up, leaving Roanne on the floor with a bloody nose. Roanne scraped herself off the ground. The door opened, and Yuki walked in, her face swollen.

"Yuki! Are you all right?" Roanne found new energy and bounded forward to her friend.

Yuki smiled weakly when her friend ran over, "I'm alright." She reassured, "Just a little bruised and sore." She moved off to the side with Roanne, "How'd you do on your fight?" She croaked out. She winced a bit at hearing how scratchy her own voice was and she gently rubbed her throat.

She watched as initiates fought while her and Roanne talked. Most initiates not making it until they were on the edge of breaking down. In the middle of Christina's match she cried out to stop and Yuki saw Eric's face frost over and a flash in his eyes before he offered Christina his hand, "This can't be good..." Yuki looked up at Roanne.

Even with a new look on his face she saw what look had been there before. And, from what she remembered, Eric wasn't the one just to let it go. As his voice echoed the room everyone shuffled out after them. Yuki watched in horror as Eric threw her off the side only giving her enough time to grab on and explain what was going to happen before moving back, watching Christina and his watch.

Roanne watched in horror as Christina dangled over the chasm, her fingers slipping on the wet metal bars. Eric didn't mess around. This was a lesson to all of them. Tris and Al shouted encouragement, and after an excruciating five minutes, they hauled her back up over the guardrail.

"You all transferred to Dauntless. Don't bring your stupid faction traditions here. In Dauntless, we are not cowards." Eric boomed. "DISMISSED!" He stalked away.

The group of initiates began to disperse. "Should we go to lunch?" Roanne asked.

Yuki clung to Roanne's arm quietly, watching in horror. After she was finally pulled up and Eric, 'laid down the law' Yuki looked uo at Roanne, nodding quietly.

As they shuffled into the busy lunch room she got some cold drinks and sat down at the table with only a sandwich on her tray. After being kicked in the face and once in the throat, everything was sore. On top of it she had some pretty nasty fractures. She sipped her drink and sighed in relief looking up to Roanne, Luke, and Ash.

Ash waved when the girls came in, wincing when he saw the shape they were in. Yuki looked miserable at best. He looked over to Luke, completely forgetting what their conversation had been about before.

Luke's mouth dropped open when Yuki and Roanne entered the cafeteria. Yuki's face was covered in blue and purple blotches, and she was holding onto Roanne. Roanne was limping forward, barely managing to keep her balance and her eyelid was slightly swollen. He and Ash watched in shock and horror as the two young girls stumbled to the lunch line and picked up trays. After getting their food, they shuffled over to their table.

"Close your mouth, Luke. I can see your lunch," Roanne mumbled, half-placing, half-dropping her tray in front of him. She helped Yuki sit down beside her, and then slipped into her chair.

"Are you guys okay?" Luke asked. "What happened?" he gently touched Roanne's hand, where a fingernail was ripped. "Molly happened," Roanne mumbled into her glass of water.
Luke looked in concern at Roanne and Yuki.

Yuki sipped her drink for a few more moments watching Luke and Ash flutter over Roanne. She played with the end of her sleeves, in a black sweatshirt that didn't have her blood all over, and she looked up at Luke, "I lost my fight..." Shw murmured, taking a small bite of her sandwhich, "Last thing I saw was a shoe. I woke up in the infirmary..." She shrugged weakly.

Yuki would be lying if she said she wasn't jealous. Part of her wished that Luke would talk to her or treat her the way he did Roanne. The other told her to ignore it because Roanne was her friend and she should be happy that she was being treated well. She finished her sandwhich and drink then leaned back, closing her eyes for a moment.

Ash rested his hand on Roanne's other hand, "Are you alright? I'm not trying to come off rude but you look awful..." He murmured, "Did you go to the infirmary to make sure you were alright?"

"No, I'll be fine." Roanne said, lightly brushing off both boys. "Just a bloody nose and nothing hurts too much that it might be broken. Yuki did really well at the start. The guy was just playing dirty," Roanne said. "They really shouldn't allow the fights to be so...vicious."

Luke looked up. "Well, I'm just glad that you're both okay. Hopefully some other people fought worse so that you can stay ahead in the rankings."

Roanne groaned. She had totally forgotten about the stupid rankings. Only the top ten initiates in their class of fourteen would be given Dauntless membership.

Luke lowered his voice and looked seriously at Roanne and Yuki. "They're going to set you up in a fear landscape tomorrow. I signed the paperwork to get the needles shipped in today. I'm not supposed to be telling you this, but I just want you two to be ready, okay?"

"What's a fear landscape?" Roanne asked nervously. It sounded scary.

"It's a simulation, just like your aptitude test, but it'll push you to the limit. I'm sorry, I can't say anymore." Luke whispered.
