muse a and muse b have both been single for a hot while and, in an attempt to get them out of it, their friends decide to set them up on a blind date. on new year's eve. muse a, who is a relatively busy person, simply brushes things off at first, thinking of muse b as a shallow, pretentious artist type. however, when they learn muse b is an insomniac, they eventually agree to wait up at least til midnight with muse b, at the very least to get their friends to stop nagging. however, midnight turns into eight o' clock in the morning, and muse a learns there's a lot more to muse b than they thought. a lot of sleepless nights are to follow.

Panther would be a lot less against this whole 'blind date' thing if he knew who he was being set up with. Unfortunately for him, the friend who had set him up on this date, Hohepa, was pretty intent about not telling him who they'd set him up with. However, Hohepa had spent the entire walk to the New Years party they were dragging Panther to fawning over this boy, and how Panther would absolutely love him.
Panther, at the moment, begged to differ. He didn't even really want to be at this party, if he was being honest- he still had homework to do- but saying no to Hohepa might as well be the equivalent of kicking a puppy. He sighed as they arrived at the house the party was at, holding the door open for his friend, who had somehow made the connection that they should bring a plate of cookies to a New Years party- one where people were partying. On an even more Hohepa-like note, they had also included vegan and gluten free cookies, 'so no-one will be left out'.
Following Hohepa through the party was a disaster- it seemed like there were already a million people there, and Panther didn't mind people, but he wasn't the people person that Hohepa was, so he mostly just wound up standing there awkwardly. Eventually, though, Hohepa seemed to remember the whole blind date thing and they checked the time on their phone, then grabbed Panther by the hand, leading him to the kitchen. "He should be here any minute. You're going to love him so much, Panther! You two are going to fall in love, and live happily ever after, and it's going to be so cute!"

♛ "do i really have to go.. jesus christ. you know i hate parties," elijah mumbled. he had recently become friends with ava out of very odd circumstances: she confessed that she had a crush on him, and after a very awkward conversation about him being gay, she had the brilliant idea of setting him up with her friend. "come on, you're gonna love him!" she said. him? he thought. eli had forgotten about the blind date... typical. they arrived at the house and immediately after walking in, they became lost in a sea of college students. he liked to think he was a pretty friendly person, but parties were a whole different ballgame. "that's him!"

Hohepa spotted Ava and Elijah from across the room, waving excitedly at the two before setting the plate of cookies down on the nearest surface that wasn't covered in red solo cups and taking Panther by the hand to drag him over to the other two. "Hi, guys," they chirped, pushing Panther forward. "This is my friend Panther! Panther, this is Ava and her friend Elijah- the cute one I was telling you about the whole way here!"
Good Lord, Panther wished he could disappear right then and there. "It's nice to meet you," he said, giving a slightly forced smile and a nod. At least Hohepa had been right about Elijah being cute. Knowing Hohepa and how they saw the world, Panther wouldn't have been surprised by Elijah's appearance regardless of what he looked like.
"You two are going to have a great night, I just know it!" Hohepa spoke up, interrupting both the silence and Panther's train of thought. They sighed, leaning their head against Panther's shoulder and holding their hands to their heart. "I love a love story."

♛ "uhh.. nice to meet you too." this was a whole lot more awkward than eli had imagined it would be. "do you want get a drink, chill for a bit?" he asked as he motioned towards the living room. he (not so) discretely checked panther out and he could see what ava had meant when she said he was handsome. without thinking, he took two shots of vodka and was going to go for a third when he realized panther was giving him a weird look. "sorry, just had to get that out of the way. what do you want?" he seriously wanted to leave this place, or at least get drunk enough to relax. how much more embarrassing could he be?

Panther nodded, kind of picking up on Eli's discomfort. "I'm usually a beer person, but I could really go for something stronger right now," he admitted, not noticing how Hohepa discretely slipped away, pulling Ava away as well to give them some space, as he took a shot on his own, then another, before getting an empty cup and filling it with beer from a nearby keg. "You want some too?" he offered, reaching for another cup as he did so. A little alcohol to take the edge off the situation really did not sound like a bad idea.

♛ "i'm not into beer, i'm more of a vodka diet coke guy. or just straight up shots! but i guess a little bit couldn't hurt." actually, he hated beer with a burning passion, but he didn't want to seem rude. he took the classic red solo cup and filled it up to about halfway from the keg in the corner of the room. it was really hot in the room with so many people there, but elijah didn't want to take his jacket off. not yet... not here. he was starting to get really anxious and could feel a panic attack coming. he wanted to seem friendly, but he had no idea what to say, so he ended up just standing there awkwardly, taking very small sips of the beer.

Panther himself had never really been one for crowds, and as soon as they both had drinks in hand, he smiled and nodded at Eli. "Do you want to go somewhere more quiet? I think there's less people in the back yard. It would give us a better opportunity to talk," he commented, as if trying to pass off the fact he also felt mildly uncomfortable in this situation as something else entirely. He didn't take Eli for much right now, he barely knew him, and yet he still found that he wanted to impress the other.
