"Yes," he answers, nodding his head, and his cheeks suddenly turn a soft, embarrassed shade of pink at Kin's question. "You must understand that milady was not in her right mind. She was once a just queen... She was not always rotten." Elsevier's nose wrinkles minutely. He missed the days past when she was of a sound mind and loved her people more than herself. How had he noticed her mad downward spiral?

"The village was suffering. A storm had swept through and ravaged the harvest. Children were starving. I could not sit idly and watch, even when she ordered us to ignore them. They were traitors, she said. My queen lost her mind." Elsevier pauses, brows knit with some lost emotion. "I was bringing them what I could from the queen's own coffers when she caught me." Elsevier smiles shyly at Kindcaid, rubbing at the back of his neck in a nervous fashion. He perks up at the microwave beep - what exactly was that - as he settles on the comfy couch.

"That sounds completely awful." Kin said, bringing Elsevier's food to him. "Here, this is the only thing that I thought you might like, that won't uh, startle you too much I guess." Kin sat next to Elsevier, his own plate of food in his hand. "I hope thats alright, I can make you something better after you've settled in a little more."

"There are worse things," Elsevier says with a shrug, "Much worse things." His mouth waters at the scent of food and his stomach growls grumpily. He hadn't realized he was hungry. As Kincaid deposits the plate into Elsevier's waiting arms, Els gently grabs Kin's hand.

"Thank you, Kincaid," Elsevier says with a soft smile as he meets Kin's bright eyes. He squeezes the man's hand once as he murmurs, "Really." Els releases him to inspect the food and makes happy sounds as he eats. "How delightful!" They did not have cheese noodles or breaded meat in Solungarde and he finds he likes it very much! Els is a neat eater and quickly finds his plate clear and his stomach content.

He knew that people who got close to him got hurt. Bad. "I'll keep you safe though." Kin set his food on the table as he prepared himself to sit down.

When Kin's hand was grabbed, he smiled gently and looked to Elsevier, as it made his heart thud inside his chest so easily. "You- You're welcome." Kin watched with admiration as Elsevier ate with happiness. "I take it you like that meal, yeah?" Kin said, laughing as he fed himself. He was a boyish eater, and ate how he pleased, causing him to look sloppy next to Elsevier.

Elsevier smiles, an action that softens the blue gray of his eyes, his teeth glinting. How about I protect you? he thinks with a quirk of his lips. He shakes his head, getting the hair from his eyes, but can't shake a sweetly amused feeling that curls up in his chest.

Elsevier's cheeks pinken just enough to be noticable and he looks away from Kin with a sheepish smile. "I've never had anything like this," he says with a laugh. He rests his chin on his palm, lounged on the couch like a lazy cat, and curiosity pokes at him once more. "Kin?" Elsevier questions, shortening Kincaid's name almost hesitantly, a shy glint in his eye. "That... demon that disappeared... You don't do stuff like that for a living... Right?" Els hedges, his expression pulling worried eyebrows and a small frown.

Kin smiled as he watched Elsevier shake the hair from his face. He too couldn't shake the other's persona. He knew from the beginning that something was different about Elsevier, but somehow that didn't change what Kin thought about him. Kin wanted Elsevier to stay in his life, and he would do anything to protect him. Kin shook his thought s from his head and turned back to admire Els.

Hearing Elsevier's question, the smile that resided on Kin's face disappeared. He did do that kind of stuff for a living, and it could potentially kill him one day- and he knew that good and well. It could also harm the other people around him, which sucked, but that's the family business for you. KIn fiddled with his fingers subconsciously and looked at the floor, then back to Elsevier. "Yeah, yeah I do." Kin said, a small smirk coming back to his face. "It's the family business."

[Northstar.]

Elsevier watches as Kin's smile fades, that bright twinkle in his eyes winking out with it. His own lips turn down minutely at Kin's answer, concern knitting between his brows even as the blue eyed man smirks. "...All alone?" Elsevier asks hesitantly, his eyes holding a hint of worry. Family business. Seemed dangerous to Els.

Kin studied Elseviers face before answering. "It wasn't just me at first." Kin said, taking a hand to his hair and ruffling it casually. "My dad and I used to work together, but he disappeared and I haven't heard from him in a long time. I think he's okay, but in reality, I don't know." Kin thought solemnly about his father disappearance. His dad was a strong and smart man; he knew how to fight any monster or demon that came his way. "I have a brother, but he chose a normal life over a life like mine." Kin said, looking back to Elsevier's face. "I've been doing jobs around the country trying to find clues that link back to my dad, but none so far." KIn fiddled with his finger some more and became silent, hoping that he didn't make this conversation too dark for Elsevier.

Elsevier's heart twists a bit at Kincaid's words. That didn't sound good to Els, but he could admire Kin for staying positive. That must be the worst feeling - not knowing. The thought makes Elsevier rub idly at his chest in sympathy pangs. He doesn't like Kin's answer but keeps his face carefully neutral and an idea sparks in his head.

"Well... How about I help? Maybe a new set of eyes could see things differently," Els says after a hard minute of thinking. "You need someone to watch your back, Kin." Perhaps this was how he could repay him for all this kindness. There wasn't much he could do in this new world- so far- but maybe... this he could. Though, Elsevier truly doesn't know what he's getting into with that offer.
