The sun was barely up and it was still too early for the birds to sing but Jada was awake. She sat facing the rising the sun that filtered through the trees. Her gaze was steady toward the horizon and her tail wrapped around her back paws. She was lost in thought. The alpha still had no clue as to what was taking the members of the pack and with so few left, she couldn't risk losing many more. The hound dog's ears pinned back for a moment as she contemplated those frustrating thoughts and the puzzle she couldn't solve before she gave up and headed back to the middle of their small camp in the back of the junkyard.
Cash slept soundly in a den he had dug in the center hole of a tire that was partially buried. the only downside was the lack of sunlight his small den received but he loved how earthy it was. He was also glad about the lack of rain this season which usually flooded out his sleeping hole. As the morning sun began to light the area, cash was gently awoken. He stretched his legs as he came out of his den,
yawning as he did so.

Annie
{location; junkyard | tags; jada | mood; panicked}
the spaniel blinked her eyes slowly, stretching out her front legs as the sunlight shone in the entrance to her den. she had dug this large den for herself, and of course to keep her puppies warm and sheltered. the damsel bent down her neck to lovingly nuzzle a bundle of puppies, but was shocked to find only one pup beside her, rather than the five that she had previously fallen asleep with. her heart began to race and she immediately jumped up to her feet. her nose to the ground of the den, she sniffed and searched rapidly. where had her puppies gone?! they were right here when she fell asleep. the spaniel went into a state of panic, dashing out of her den and looking around quickly. her head was turning so fast to look every way that she could have gotten whiplash by now. she felt sick to her stomach, her legs unsteady while her entire body began to tremble with fear. just then, her brown eyes landed on the alpha as she entered the area. annie bumbled over to the taller dog in a hurry. "oh alpha, please! my pu-puppies are-" she just couldn't seem to catch her breath. breathing in and out quickly, it was easy to tell that the spaniel was on the verge of hyperventilating "they're gone!" annie yelped out, choking on her words. the mother dog began to whimper and whine through her sorrows, her head hanging low. her babies had disappeared and there was nothing she could do. poor annie, what a terrible thing for any mother to go through.
Dagger
{location; park | tags; none | mood; irritated}
dag was up very early, as usual. he leapt up and was ready to start the day right as soon as he opened his eyes. he walked over to the pond and got a drink of the pond water. he stood and lapped at the water for a while, enjoying the feeling of the cool drink hitting his dry throat. he lifted his head up when he heard rustling of the leaves on the ground close by. he looked over and there was a little brown squirrel, with a bushy tail. it nibbled on a acorn peacefully as he stared at it. drool began to fall from the male's jowls. dagger began to slowly creep up on it, step after step he went, crouched down low in hopes to not be noticed. as he neared the creature, he got ready to launch himself at it. he stepped down a careful paw, but not careful enough; unfortunately. he cringed and his ears went flat as he heard himself break a twig. dagger grunted as the squirrel turned, spotted the dog, and dashed away. he watched with disappointment as it fled up a tree. "darn it!" the brute snapped, mad at himself for missing what could have been his breakfast.

Jada whipped around to see the spaniel coming her way. Annie's pleas about broke Jada's heart. The puppies were a breath of fresh air but Jada feared the worst. "Can you tell me everything you know?" the alpha asked as she bounded closer to the spaniel. She sniffed the other female, smelling traces of her puppies mixed with their mother's lavender scent. Jada lifted her head from sniffing Annie and looked around, half hoping she would see the pups playing just beyond the rusted cars and rotten furniture. She looked back at Annie with genuine sorrow in her eyes. "We'll take care of this," she said, taking on a more gentle tone as she laid down to get closer to Annie's level. "I just have to know the last place you saw them and if they're all gone or just a few. I know it's hard but you gotta fill me in on the details." But Jada had a feeling the details would not be good. Sure, Annie was a dog of free and wonderful emotions but she was also a strong mother and all around solid pack member.
Cash, however, was less intrigued by the drama and crying dog and more by the lack of food. Soot and Nala were in tier respective cars, sleeping. Or at least that's what he guessed, anyway. The cattle dog trotted past the alpha and Annie and on towards the park. He saw a familiar figure across the way, stalking a squirrel. Cash stayed back, his keen eyes flittering between the prey and Dagger. Only when Dagger missed and his snack got away, did Cash come trotting over. "Not much of a squirrel dog, eh?" he posed in as friendly a manner he could muster. Dagger wasn't his preferred dog to run into but hey, it was better than the drama going on back in camp. Cash sat down and looked at Dagger with his head tilted to the side. He briefly glanced up the tree the squirrel had escaped to.

Annie
{location; junkyard | tags; jada | mood; worried}
the little spaniel continued to have many terrible thoughts going through her mind. worry had set heavy in the mother's stomach, she just couldn't go on in life without her babies! her stomach still turning, the female tried hard to think of better things. annie knew that she could trust the alpha to search everywhere in order to help find her little angels. every pack member was aware that those puppies meant more to annie than anything. they were another half of her. she attempted to calm herself by taking some slow, deep breaths. she knew that being panicked wouldn't help her with anything. afterwards, her muscles relaxed and she was beginning to breathe better. the female looked back to jada. "alright." she agreed in a soft voice. "they were in my den when we all fell asleep last night. when i woke up this morning, four were gone, only dove was left." she said, although her voice was now breaking and her pained eyes strayed to the dirt, away from jada.
Dagger
{location; park | tags; cash | mood; irritated}
the brute turned and saw cash approaching. his comment made dagger even more annoyed. a low growl arose in the malinois' chest, the top of his snout crinkling to show his white fangs. "oh, shut your trap! i'm a better hunter than you'll ever be." the male boasted proudly, his head held high in a prideful manner, obviously he acted far too prideful for a dog that just missed his prey. "you've never caught a squirrel in your life, have you, mutt?" he barked at the other male. he stood for a moment,
then answered for cash before the dog could have a chance to answer for himself "i didn't think so." dagger grunted, turning away and walking in the opposite direction.

Jada wanted to act rash, she wanted to start on the trail and find the pups but that wouldn't be best. She thought out a few courses of action as she stood back up. "Thank you so much, Annie. I know this is hard for you," the alpha paused for a breath that would hopefully steady her tone. "Let's get Dove and keep them with us if anyone is still hanging around, get them to round up the others." Jada gave a brief, friendly tail wag before she set off toward Annie's den. Everyone needed to be there and hear the news but the alpha wanted to get a good look before too many dogs showed up. She glanced around the area as she neared the spaniel's den, trying to see if anything was disturbed but she had a hard time focusing. Her mind raced as she feared the worst. If whatever was taking the pack members would take pups, it wouldn't stop for anything.
Cash opened his mouth as if to speak, but he had no chance to respond. Instead, he rolled eyes as he sighed. Whatever. "You took the words right out of my mouth..." he mumbled. The cattle dog stood up and shook his coat out. He could have sworn he saw some drool spray from Daggers mouth as the bigger dog spoke. he didn't bother trotting after Dagger, he just called, "Maybe Nala or even Jada could help you out. They'd enjoy the company." Cash was certain he had dug his grave with the volatile dog, but he didn't care. He felt sassy and wouldn't stand for Dagger's entitled outlook much longer. Cash wasn't usually the one to keep arguments going but Dagger rubbed him the wrong way. Of course, Cash knew his odds if a fight broke out and he would probably lose. He was more equipped for dealing with cattle than a shepherd dog.

Annie
{location; junkyard | tags; jada | mood; upset}
she nodded gently, her heart aching constantly. she knew she'd have to at least accept her other pup, even through these rough times. on her way walking towards her den, she looked back to the alpha. annie sighed heavily "i just wish i knew that they were alright..." she whimpered. as they neared the opening to her den, she could see the little black pup continuing to sleep peacefully. walking into the den, she gazed down to her sleeping puppy longingly. annie turned her head back to jada, looking at her with a sad expression. the spaniel felt afraid and so terrible to awake her pup from a peaceful slumber, just to tell her something upsetting. she took another deep breath, and then reached down and nudged the little puppy to awaken her. dove yawned and blinked her eyes. annie stepped out of the den while her pup stood up and became more aware. the mother forced a smile towards the pup, although it was weak and barely a smile at all. how could she smile when she was going through something so saddening?
dove glanced around the den, and then stepped out out the entrance of it. she looked up to her mother and the alpha. "mommy,
where's my brothers?" she asked with a titled head and an innocent tone, her little ears swaying with the motion of her tilted head. "i- they-" annie had something planned to say, but she just couldn't get any words out. the mother dog broke down whining and crying, covering her snout with her paws as she tumbled down to the dirt.
dove stumbled back a few steps, alarmed. "what's wrong? don't cry, mommy." the pup said softly. she looked to the alpha with helpless and worried eyes, obviously confused by her mother's outburst of whimpers and clear look of distress.
Dagger
{location; park | tags; none | mood; irritated}
dagger kept on walking the other way, blocking out the sounds of cash speaking. he huffed out through his nose. that good for nothing mutt had no right to come up and bother him this early in the morning. dagger just couldn't seem to get a break from the other dogs in the pack. he rolled his eyes and then set off to find something else to do.
[sorry its super short]
