James smiled at Luciano and pushed a hand through his still growing hair, "No. I think I'll just see where the lord takes me." He smiled gently and picked once again at his food, "Sergio, I'm not gay, it's wrong. Besides there is plenty of artists in New York, I don't need to be one of them." He grinned at him and went back to sipping at his water, "The camp really helped me figure everything out about what I'm going to do."

Sergio was completely baffled, her eyes widening in shock. "You, James Sinclair - Starboy, aren't gay?" She asked, like shecwasnt sure she had heard him right. "Like Hell you're not, I saw you making heart eyes at Lucito here in that hospital room before you got all brainwashed. Nothing straight about that."
As soon as she finished speaking, Luciano shot her a look, some sort of silent communication passing between the siblings before Sergio seemed to give in, sitting back and glaring at the empty seat in front of her.
"I feel like I just accepted myself more in there. Like, I'm not ashamed of being transgender anymore. Or queer, for that matter..."

James raised his eyebrows, "I was but the camp fixed me. I'm much better now." He smiled gently and stirred his straw in the water. "Correct I used to like Luciano, I really did. I thought he was "the one" he was special. But of course throughout the camp I was taught that those feelings were wrong so I corrected them." "I'm surprised you didn't get fixed. I'm very very surprised that his own son wouldn't change," James went back to sipping his water, "But I'm changed and I've seen the error of my ways," m

Luciano's smile faltered for just a moment. "I'm glad you're happy now," he said softly, nudging Sergio, then getting up from the table. He was convinced that being gay was wrong, and he had been his whole life, yeah, but something about what James said genuinely hurt. Luciano couldn't quite place why it hurt, but honestly, James might as well have slapped him across the face. "We should get going. It's already pretty late."
With that, Luciano turned to go to the counter and pay for their food- which made sense, considering he had Sergio's jacket, and therefore Sergio's wallet. Sergio had returned to glaring at James, and if looks could kill, the man would have dropped dead right then and there. "I am not that man's son, and that man is not my father." She stood quickly, angrily, and followed after her brother.

James watched his smile faulted and somewhere just benson the surface he felt a pang of..guilt? He felt guilty for telling the truth? How weird. He shook it off and turned back to Sergio withering under her gaze, "Uh....ok I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you Sergio. Please accept my sincere apologies." He added with a gentle smile, but even the smile couldn't hide the subconscious emtions of pain flashing in his eyes. And then he stood and walked outside with a soft sigh, "Where are we gonna stay?" He asked eyebrows raised directly avoiding eye contact with either of his companions

"We're going to my house," Sergio replied as they stepped outside. She didn't invite James, but she didn't not invite him either, because while a big part of her wanted to beat the man half to death with a metal pipe, a bigger part of her knew James wasn't in his right mind now, and now she felt responsible for him. She shivered from the cold, but didn't ask Luciano for her jacket back.
After spending a hot second trying to flag down a taxi, Sergio got in the middle seat, between Luciano and James. Luciano watched her curiously, but didn't say anything, instead leaning into her side and sighing. "Quiero ir a casa," he mumbled, watching the city go by out the window.
"El hogar está en cualquier lugar donde estamos juntos," Sergio replied, resting her cheek on Luciano's head. He didn't quite look like himself without the ridiculously long hair, she thought. It was growing back, yeah, but it was only a few inches long and stuck up like some sort of half assed, poorly cared for afro. "I think I have coconut oil at my house." Either way, Sergio was really digging her own buzzcut look.
Luciano nodded in response, then reached over Sergio to nudge James. "Are you coming home with us?"
// idk if you speak spanish, but luciano said he wanted to go home and sergio said that home is anywhere they're together. what a heartwarming family.

James followed as he was shoved into the taxi. He was silent the ride as he watched the city pass by them. James once again felt the familiar pang of longing but quickly shoved it once again into the recesses of his mind and then he finally looked at Luciano. "Uh-Well-I- really couldn't intrude on your home. I'll just walk home after we get to your place. Thank you for the offer though!" He smiled softly and his statement was accompanied by an enthusiastic nod, "You two have done quite enough for me." He added softly as he went back to looking out window. The city lights reflecting and refracting off the light color in his eyes. "Any ways I've got to go and clean out my house and figure out what I'm going to do with my bird. Gotta clean out the old ways before I can start the new ones right?"

"You shouldn't walk alone in the dark, it's dangerous," Luciano said, frowning. "At least spend the night with us to-night, then leave in the morning." Luciano was trying really hard at the moment to not sound like he was desperately looking for anything to hold on to of the person James used to be, and probably really failing at it.
Sergio was still pretty unamused with the man, rolling her eyes and lifting her head to look at him. "You're really going to give up your pet- assuming your pet is still there- because someone slapped your hand and told you it's not okay to be gay?" God, if he continued down this road, Sergio might just push him out of the taxi before it even came to a stop.

James shook his head gently, "I really don't want to impose upon your family anymore. After tonight I promis y'all won't have to hear from me again." Then he heard Sergio's comment and he turned narrowing his eyes, "A- A slap on the wrist? Are you KIDDING me?! What I just went through was 360 days of hell! I went through things no human should ever have to go through! I was treated like less than dirt by those underlings!" He was nearly shouting in the small car space, "I will never go back to the way I was if that's what's always going to be waiting on me! I'm afraid that if I go back your father will be right on my butt ready to send me right back into another 360 days of torture don't you understand?!" He was nearly crying his voice breaking over the last few words

Luciano went pale as soon as voices started to be raised, and once a very startled cab driver pulled up outside of Sergio's home, he tossed some money at the man and got out of the car quickly, hurrying into Sergio's house. That didn't help with Sergio's anger at all, and once Luc was out of the car, she followed, going around to James's side and opening the door, then practically dragging the man out. "Don't I understand?" she asked, barking a laugh in his face as she tangled her hands in the collar of James's shirt and forced him to walk backwards. Once his back was pressed against the railing of the stairless porch, she seemed pleased, speaking again. "Don't I understand? I've lived the majority of my life being treated like this, and you think I don't understand? Luciano has lived his whole life being treated worse than you can even begin to imagine, and you think you're the only one in pain right now? No, I don't think you understand. I don't think you will understand until the pain and fear is so bad for you that you're eating, sleeping, and breathing it because you can't remember what living a normal life was like- and you will never have one. So until you know what it is like to live your whole life like this, get angry. Get pissed, Starboy. Be vulnerable and destructive and use that for the good of the world because you get to live. You get the life that me, and Luciano, and every other person who has spent their whole life like this, who has become a dead thing walking, will never get. And you have no right to tap out on me, or him, or any of us." For as angry as Sergio was, there was something grossly hopeful in her little speech, like maybe James was the saviour that every kid who had been abused in the name of religion was waiting for. Rationally, she knew that there was no way that could be true, but it was the most hope Sergio had felt in years, for what that was worth.
