(I'm really fine with any pace either. i think it probably depends mainly on how much we're gonna stick to the beauty and the beast storyline)

bucky nodded along as she spoke. of course he recognized the name. that had been them. he was kind of surprised that it stuck, though. junior had always hated it, and everyone else just thought it was stupid. when she finished her story, he almost froze up, but managed not to. steve had crashed a plane into the arctic? I leave that idiot alone for probably no more than a month and he dies. what a fricken moron. after a couple more quiet moment, he spoke again, "his name was james barnes." he told her, turning to look at her, "you seem to know a lot about these guys."

zelda smiled at him, "i do, my brother and i used to spend hours studying these guys." her face grew sad and she stared at a stain on the couch cushion she was sitting on. "he wanted to be just like them when he grew up." she laughed bitterly at the end. "he wanted to be brave and selfless, and he really was even as a kid." she felt tears stinging the back of her eyes before she rubbed them to push them away.

bucky glanced up at her use of past tense, then noticed the sadness on her face and immediatly understood. "your brother died..." he spoke it as a statement, a wary statement, but a statement nonetheless. because he knew that look. he'd seen it on his own face when he used to have mirrors around, and he thought about all the people who he had loved, and who he knew died believing he had died for his country, when in reality, he had only suffered for it.

zelda nodded. "yeah, he was seven when he was diagnosed and he was nine when he died." she pulled her knees to her chest. even though it happened so long ago, the wounds still felt as if it had happened yesterday. "he was my best friend, i know a lot of older sisters will say that their younger brothers are pests but mine, he was just a beacon of light." some tears made their way down her face and she violently swiped them away.

bucky tilted his head a bit, then spoke honest words. "You probably only feel that way because you were close enough in age to like the same things and because, unfortunaly, he didn't grow old enough to get into that really annoying male stage of ten to fifteen years old." he'd had siblings. younger sisters, mostly, but he knew how his older sister had felt about him until she was on her own, until he had felt about his younger sisters until he was out of the house.

despite her crying something bucky said made her laugh. "no, i guess he never did get to that annoying stage of being a boy."
she thought about what her brother would be like as an angsty teen and that idea alone made her laugh softly. she wiped the rest of her tears on the sleeve of her shirt before looking up at bucky. "alright, your turn, tell me something about you." she looked at him.
at this point, she had been here for a few weeks and most days their days were filled with short conversations and some reading here and there.

Bucky was taken slightly aback by her request to hear about him. usually he just asked about her, but it wasn't as if he was against talking about himself. it had been a while since he'd done anything of the like, anyway. "uh... alright.. I grew up in brooklyn... i had an older sister, and a twin sister, and three younger sisters. we were kind of poor... really poor, actually, so I didn't get much of an education. I joined the army when I was... I can't remember exactly... twenty some thing, I think...c

when he talked zelda sat quietly and listened. she was fascinated by his life, why he had his left arm covered all time time.
from what she had heard about his life, zelda seemed like she and bucky would get along quite well, and they had. despite being a prisoner for an indefinite amount of time she felt less so and more like a guest, though she still went to sleep at night with an ache in her chest for her mother.

Bucky considered continuing but realized he wasn't actually sure what she was interested in hearing. so he decided to ask. he turned to her when he finished and asked, "I don't really know what to tell... what do you want to know?" his voice was soft, as it always was. he was never very loud anymore; it disturbed him how his voice could echo through the empty halls.

(oh dear help me. in an attempt to try and come up with what the mansion looked like in my head, I started to think of the hotel from the shining and now that is all I can see)

zel felt the blood rush to her cheeks. "oh um... anything really," she admitted, "well that you're comfortable with telling me." she quickly added hoping to make him feel much more comfortable. she mentally kicked herself for blushing at bucky but she didn't feel ashamed in the slightest, she liked and cared about him, and that was okay.
