after a bit of silence, Bucky voiced the question that had been on his mind since she told him the year. "did we win the war?" he asked her. he hoped they had. if they hadn't, then he wasn't sure why in the hell he had gone through all of this ridiculous pain.

zelda looked confused for a moment, soon she slowly started putting the pieces together, he must know nothing of the outside world. she gave him a kind smile and nodded. "if you're talking about the second world war then yes we won." her smile grew at the end of her sentence.

Bucky nodded a bit, "that was the war I was talking about specifically, but based on the way you said it I assume there were more wars following it?" he really was stating it more than asking, but he phrased it as a question nonetheless.

(sorry about the short replies, I'm having a bout of writer's block)

zelda thought for a moment then nodded. "yeah... there was a huge battle in new york a few years ago, loki basically brought alien's from another dimension and then there was a war between the avengers that i heard rumors about, captain america versus iron man kind of thing." she shrugged it off assuming he knew about the avengers. "I think they're off to fight this space war or something."
(i totally get it, by the way, i didn't know if we were still set in the mu so i just kinda went with it cause i figured he should know that steve is alive i guess.)

Bucky listened absently as she spoke, staring into the fire. that was, until, she said captain america in the present tense sort of fashion and he looked up almost immediatly. he did wait for her to finish her story instead of interrupting her with his question, and even waited for a few extra moments before he asked, "Steve's okay?"

not thinking much of his question zelda shrugged. "as far as i know he is, tony beat him up pretty badly during their fight but i think that he's okay." she actually looked up to the captain quite a bit, he held a lot of the same values as she did. "he's been a little out of touch the past few years, getting used to the twenty-first century and all, but he seems healthy, just a little angry at the government."

Bucky mulled over the words 'getting used to the twenty first century' for quite a bit before he finally asked, "Wait.... he wasnt.. he wasn't here all this time?" he wasn't entirely sure how to phrase it, but he did do his best.

zelda sat on the couch and faced bucky pulling one leg under her and letting the other dangle over the open side of the couch. "well, he was frozen in ice for around seventy years, some scientists found him when they were searching for some artifacts about the howling commandos." she was fascinated with this group of men.

((by the way is it still 10 days from when she showed up to the house?

bucky listened to her quietly, repeating the words in his head, attempting to decipher them with the limited knowledge he had of anything after 1950, the most recent publication date of any of the books he had. it ended up being much harder than he thought it would be to keep up. the only phrase he really latched onto was 'the howling commandos' but he could remember what it meant. so he figured he might as well ask, "howling commandos?"

(I mean I think so? we could skip a bit and pretend we did that already if you want, I don't really care. also I couldn't remember if the named themselves before or after buck fell, so I just kind of added it awkwardly)

((I think it was before, they never said who came up with it but i kind of feel like its a total bucky thing to say. honestly, any time/pacing works for me.))

zelda smiled. "yeah, it was this group of men during world war two, steve and james are the two i can think of off the top of my head.
basically, these men didn' really like playing by the rules and they would go on these next to impossible rescue missions to save prisoners from the nazi's and hydra." she thought again before speaking "one of their missions went bad and james fell off of a train and died." she said her last sentence quietly looking a the floor trying to choose her next words. "i don't really know what happened to steve after his best friend died, but he crash landed his plane into the ice and he ended up frozen." she kept staring a the floor. that part of the story always made her sad.
