blinking his glossy eyes a couple of times, he now knew what it felt like to feel.... content. all these years, he's always felt pressured, or anxious about messing up; but this time, he was in charge, and if he failed... then he would be failing himself. not snoke, not hux, and not luke. as rey spoke up, he tilted his head back ever so slightly to side-eye rey while still watching the battle."it won't take long at all. with our troopers on the ground, we should be minimally damaging their wall of defense. once the cannon goes off, maybe once or twice, the door will fold over in bare of the heat." hux proudly stated while ben just glared at him. moving his head back to its original position, and glancing down towards the ground, he noticed the slight struggle of moving the cannon. moving his hand ever so slightly, he pushed it upwards while using the force. ben wanted to get this over with. the tension was killing him, and everything was so in place... he didn't want to lose this time.

taking shallow breaths, rose must've noticed his current state because she rushed over and slightly leaned on him for comfort. while processing what poe had said, he was about to answer on a positive note, but one of the rebels working in the back called for leia. "ma'am, the door... they're setting up some sort of, uh, cannon?" finn had gulped nervously, knowing that the cannon they were talking about was way larger than they thought. "that cannon isn't your normal cannon... with one shot, the door will at least blast open. two shots..." he trailed off, not wanting to know the possibilities or the motive of kylo ren at this point. looking over at poe, he raised his eyebrows, "do we have any ships? anything to fight with while we can?"

that wasn't good. still, he refused to give up. "yeah, yeah. a couple of rusty old ski speeders. we don't have great odds if we go out there, but it's better than nothing." it was their last chance. with rey gone and over half of the resistance dead, this was it. "okay, those who can fly, get in a speeder and stay on the comms." he hesitated, looking to leia as if for approval, feeling a bit better when she offered a reassuring smile. the speeders really were falling apart and if they were lucky, they could get a few hits on the cannon before they all died. but not wanting to consider those possibilities, he was off in an instant trailed by a handful of others to go board the speeders.

she nodded as hux explained their cannon. it was far superior to anything the resistance could have stored in that old base. she knew by the time they got the door open, the resistance would have nothing to defend themselves. at least, that was what she presumed. everything felt so... perfect. she was ready to end this, ready to end everything and start over with ben. she could feel his tension, his want to get this over with, and shared in that feeling for a moment. though beyond that tension she could also feel a certain confidence. a freedom, really, that ben was no longer under the control and the pressure of anyone.

standing tall, ben watched as his troopers now started to charge the cannon. it would take a little while, so he commanded that the other walkers begin shooting at the men down in the trenches not too far away. this was only the peak of their battle, and ben felt alive. he sure hoped that rey wasn't feeling.... out of place, guilty, or even regretful for taking his offer. at this point, it was too late to double cross him, and even if she wanted to attack him- he probably wouldn't attack back. he had nothing anymore. the galaxy could be his and rey's- all the little stars, and planets that shone over them constantly on a daily basis. that's what he wanted... for them, not for anybody else, and he knew he was going to get it too. his proud frame suddenly turned into a tense build. the rebels... looking over at rey to see if she noticed the same enthusiasm radiating off the rebel's base, ben turned back around to face the door. they were going to fight with old ski speeders, and try to take down their cannon. "this should be entertaining."

finn // the "stormtrooper" — male — w/ rebels
nodding his head slowly, he looked over at rose who motioned him to a beat up speeder. "you sure about this finn? you look, hesitant..." the former stormtrooper scratched the back of his neck, and shrugged. "it's all we have left rose. i've lost a lot today, and whatever happens next... i mean, if we win this, we can-" his soppy speech was cut off by one of the rebels, telling him to board his speeder before it was too late. moving away from rose, he boarded his beat-down speeder, and started it up. everyone was now waiting on poe's command, but for finn... he was waiting for the comforting voice to tell them that this was their best shot, and to give it everything they got because... it really was their last chance. he wanted to say so much more, and explore so much more. finn wanted to hug everyone just one last time, and make sure that they were content, because whatever happened out there is going to affect them for the rest of their lives.

he was quick to hop in a speeder, leading the crew of weathered ships out onto the surface of the mineral planet. instantly they were under fire, but after forming up in a steady line, poe was sure they could make at least some advances.
"now, I don't like these rust buckets and I don't like our odds-" he started to speak as he pushed his headset on, but was interrupted as a chunk of metal literally fell away under his foot and hit the red salt hard. "the hell..?" he muttered, looking from the slowly breaking floor back up to the cannon as they slowly neared it. "give it your all."

seeing the rebels come at them with half-broken speeders worn with age was a little humorous, the idea bringing a smile to her lips. the neverending hope of the rebellion never ceased to amaze her, even if it would be their downfall. rey knew this shouldn't take any time at all for the speeders to either retreat or be taken down. for a moment, she felt a pang of regret. she knew those pilots, some of them even her friends. rey was quick to lock this feeling out, forcefully replacing it with her focused attention on the battle.

watching this very amusing scene unravel- he knew that the rebels could have their fun for now, and then have it be crushed with the strength of their troops. the power they held was very overwhelming, or at least to say. "sir... the cannon, they're approaching it." one of the men commented as hux made the final call to annihilate whoever got too close. it was mirthful to watch little speeders get caught up in such a sticky trap, that they die without recalling their own heroism. with the final speeders left, he noticed something shoot from the sky- the millennium falcon.

getting out into his speeder, he noticed the struggle to keep it stable. he kept bouncing around, and for a split second- he thought he couldn't go on until he heard rose over the headset. "if you hit the green button, you'll be able to stick to the ground a little more." taking her advice, he pressed the green button, and the speeder suddenly stopped shaking as violently as it did. although, that didn't take the pressure off the fact that there was a giant cannon directed towards him. taking deep breaths, he heard poe's voice over the headset. "give it your all." those were the exact words to keep him motivated. finn with instinct began to shoot at anything in his way; although, his determination was cut short once the AT-AT's began shooting down half of the speeders. "oh no..." finn softly muttered as he kept speeding his way towards the cannon. at this point, all he wanted to do was get in a few shots-just to satisfy himself.

the at-ats took immediately to defending their cannon, shooting down several speeders, their pilots cries cutting short in the comms. then he saw it- zooming across the sky, the millennium falcon. this brought a great deal of confidence to the captain as he jammed the triggers, shooting as best he could at the center of the cannon, but it just wasn't enough. the falcon wasn't shooting, only distracting their enemies, but at this rate it still wouldn't fare well for them if they continued. he didn't want to call it, poe truly hoped they could make it, but it was too risky. they could still shoot from afar, keep the trenches covered. "we aren't gonna make it, pull out." he said through gritted teeth. "It's a suicide run, we'll be dead if we advance any further." he pulled back with great hesitance, several others following suit.

all across the battlefield, speeders exploded in an array of flames and rest dust before falling to pieces. finally, some progress. then she saw it- the falcon. for once in her life she wished chewie hadn't been such a good pilot as he distracted the at-ats and fighters from destroying the last of the speeders. still, looking back down to the surface of the planet, several of the damaged speeders were pulling back. "we need to get that ship out of the sky." she warned, eyeing the falcon as it flew overhead. she was well aware of the ship's speed, it's capabilities.

training his eyes on the millennium falcon, ben felt a sudden rage bubble within him. "shoot that garbage out of the sky!" ben roared, his eyes now flicking to hux who looked perplexed at his unexpected anger. the ginger, who commanded to take out the millennium falcon only made it worse as the ship guided the majority of their battleships away from the much needed attention of the rebels. letting his eyes roam back to the battle scene, he saw a bunch of the speeders pull away except for one. sensing the determination from the one speeder brought him back to a more calm mood. "the cannon is almost ready sir." one of the men commented as hux waved his hand around. "then fire it."

watching as his fellow rebels get shot down left finn in some sort of awe state. glancing around for places to strike, he noticed something dart from the sky. the millennium falcon. feeling a bit better, he watched as the larger ship pulled away half of the battleships, and shot down some of the men on ground. regaining his strength, he started to speed a bit faster towards the cannon with such hope. finn, while in the process of getting to the large machine, heard the static sound of poe's voice commanding them to pull back. looking at all speeders around him pull back caused him to falter in his movements. he wasn't going to fall back now, and he damn well didn't mind dying for a good cause either. hearing the shrieks, and screams coming from rose caused him to pull off his headset in an attempt to draw out the outside world. the cannon was now charging up, the light dimming upon his face, and everything became very still. just as the cannon was about to fire, his ship got pushed to the side. while falling out of it, he heard the booming noise draw from the machine they were all dreading.

there was something wrong. as the ships pulled back, someone kept going, straight toward that cannon. rose's panicked voice over the comms let him know who it was, as a dread filled his chest. "finn, pull back!" he cried, but it was too late. as he felt bullets rain down on his speeder, he had no choice but to jump ship as the speeder nearly fell apart with him still inside. he hit the crystalline ground hard, sliding right toward the trenches were very few fighters still remained. and though he tried to stop himself from hitting the ground hard, it didn't happen and before he knew it he was running for his life in the trenches while a ship exploded behind him.

as the battlefield cleared up, there was only one solitary speeders still on it's course toward the warming cannon. ben's sudden anger was a bit unnerving, but at the same time brought her much-needed confidence and determination about their odds in the battle. in a loud, echoing boom the cannon's blast blew a hole in the resistance's last line of defence. she let out a breath, a smile tugging at her lips as she watched smoke rise from the site of the cannon's destruction.

taking a deep breath and watching as the cannon took its shot into the rebel base left ben kinda silent. he didn't think it was going to be this easy. nothing about being on the opposing side was easy, but this... this was all destined for him and rey. "should we shoot again?" the man asked, glancing over towards him. "go ahead, we could damage them a little more." (AAAHH, i'm sorry this is so short!!!! i'm kinda forgetting what happens between the time span of everyone getting back to the base, and the time luke makes his appearance... i can't remember what really happens)

finn // the "stormtrooper" — male — w/ rose
looking over at the speeder who knocked him out of his place left him in shock. running over, and pushing open the little cockpit of the speeder, his eyes landed on rose. "why? why would you do such a thing? i... i was almost there rose!" watching as the smaller female struggled for air, both of their eyes landed on the cannon. "we're going to win this war not by fighting what we hate, but saving what we love!" using her remaining strength, she leaned upwards and kissed him on the lips for a brief moment before falling back into the speeder, and closing her eyes. getting ready to stand up, there was another blast from the cannon- but it was a brief shot. as soon as it was finished, finn sat himself up, grabbed some rubble, and began dragging rose back to the base for help.

by the time poe had made it back inside the base with a handful of on-ground fighters, the wall was crumbling by the second, a massive hole where the cannon had hit. he stumbled inside, taking a moment to catch his breath before heading further inside to find the general. he didn't get very far when he heard cries of help behind him. upon spinning around he spotted finn, dragging an injured rose behind him. he felt a spark of happiness in his chest- he thought finn had died on his way to the cannon.

rey's eyes flicked from ben's focused gaze to the hole in the wall. she was about to wait for another blow when-
there was something. at the edge of the battlefield, just a figure in the smoke, and that feeling in her chest. "wait," she interjected, moving forward a little. the tension of this moment seemed to go on forever. the shape she swore was a human took form, and then she could see clearly. something impossible. it was him. it was luke.
